Heck, look at the USA. They already have Concentration Camps for immigrants and those requesting asylum, where they separate parents from children, treat them like inhuman scum, keep them incarcerated in cruel conditions for as long as they like without basic rights.
They call it something different to whitewash it, Detention Centres or such, but they’re camps in which they concentrate and persecute these undesirables.
Clearly not exactly the same as the camps of organised death we associate most readily with the concept, but still following the same evil fascist playbook nonetheless.
Heck, look at the many horrible concentration camps the USA ran to round up innocent people of Japanese decent during WWII, families, children… A despicable act of racism hidden under the thin guise of protecting the nation (modern Detention Centres, anyone?). You can ask George Takei what his opinion of those camps is. He was forced into one as a child.
I’m sure it happens all over the place, in many different ways, in many countries. Back to the USA for a moment for example, their entire prison system is a for-profit slave labour money-making enterprise, in which the system is incentivised to lock up as many people as possible (especially racial undesirables), keep them locked up, and ensure that those who do manage to leave are as likely as possible to fall victim of the system and return to prison, so that they can be kept as slaves.
And wouldn’t you know it, the USA is the 6th most incarcerated country in the world per capita, rubbing shoulders not with other modern western nations, but with Cuba, Turkmenistan, and Rwanda. What a coincidence.
So yes, lots of very evil stuff happens in our nations under our noses (not just the USA by any means, they just stand out because they pretend to be the biggest beacon of all that is good and right in the world).
None of which is a big secret either (the state just won’t teach it in schools or call attention to it), but even though the information is out there, enough of us are apathetic to it all that nothing is done about it 😟
(Note: I didn’t really touch upon the deep rooted racism that runs though the US legal system, but it’s very prevalent, and understandably difficult to separate from the topic of modern slavery in the US prison system, as these links will attest.)
Context; So… Just bought a brand new TV and life is good, but I should have done more research before buying it. I primarily want to use PLEX for watching media on the TV. However, due to “smart TV’s” not being smart and being rather slow because most current TV operating systems are either bloated or just riddled with...
Those things are incredibly expensive, I don’t think I could even afford one of them.
What makes them worth the extra money compared to say, a raspberry pi? I’m assuming Nvidia shield runs some version of Linux and is just as compatible with all the various packages and services you might want to run on a media device (such as a Plex server for starters of course), but what can it do that the pi came, to justify it’s more than double the cost?

Rishi Sunak is considering introducing some of the world’s toughest anti-smoking measures that would in effect ban the next generation from ever being able to buy cigarettes, the Guardian has learned....
About bloody time. Cigarettes are disgusting and do nothing but immense harm to those who smoke them, and those around them.
Sunak is a tosser, but cigarettes are a no brainer. Sure, old boomers still smoke them, but only the dumbest young people still smoke, and most of them use e-cigs (which are still bad, but nowhere remotely near as bad).
Several of my grandparents died before I could ever know them because of smoking, for example. Fuck smoking. Smoking kills.
Friend is trying to start a conversation and catch up, “Me” is being weirdly antisocial about the whole thing.
Like, if you dislike this person that much, tell them you don’t want to be their friend any more, instead of suffering inside at how much you hate interacting with them, and leading them on.
Was it ever? I mean, they really pushed for it to be something little kids got into over the past 8 years or so, but when it came out everyone playing the alpha and beta etc for a few years there were us people around 18 :-D
Everyone I know has played a good amount of Minecraft in the past, though to be honest not in recent years (so maybe the player base is more little kids now than it used to be on average? I have no idea).
Better not be advert breaks in the service I PAY FOR, or else I’m out.
I’m not paying anybody to serve me adverts. Ever.
Their application is already god awful, and their database is built incredibly poorly (what idiot decided that different seasons of one TV show should have entirely separate listings in the database, often making it hard to find?!).
AND, they’re constantly trying to shove extra paid stuff down my throat, like something called Paramount+, in the thing I’m already bloody paying for.
I’m already at the edge of my tether with these people for their crappy service. If they introduce advertisment breaks into a service I’m paying for? That would be a direct insult, and I don’t stand for that sort of thing.

Microsoft is releasing a big Windows 11 update on September 26. Update 23H2 includes the new AI-powered Windows Copilot feature, a native RAR app, a new volume mixer and a lot more.
I love the part where it remembers what screen an application was last launched on, even if that screen is no longer connected, so the window is completely missing with no visible way to get it back 😅
But yes, I find multiple monitor stuff to mostly be good in Win11 I agree!
Though it’s sorely missing a feature Win10 had that I find really, REALLY annoying. My monitors aren’t the same resolution, so when I move my mouse from one of a higher resolution to a lower one, if the mouse is near the top of the screen as it often is, it will literally get stuck on the edge of the screen, because the next screen technically has no pixels that high up 🤦♀️
So I then have to move the mouse down an inch or two to get it to be allowed to move to the next screen. Incredibly infuriating, and a problem that was solved in previous versions of Windows (which would just helpfully move your mouse to the top of the neighbouring screen, as you’d intuitively want).
So the image never touches the server side, even in RAM, it always remains only on the client machine, and it’s checked there?
If so, then this could be a pretty neat tidy way to deal with this issue, otherwise the image is on the server, even if you “delete it real fast” or such, and I imagine then you’d still need to be in compliance with the law regarding saving and reporting it.

Ahh dang, it’s only for Macs. I never knew this was an option, it’s something I’d love to use on my PC, and phone too - currently I use AccuBattery to monitor battery health and alert me when it reaches 90% charge so I can unplug it.
Using this method, I’ve kept my phone battery at around 80%+ original capacity even after 3 years of rather heavy use. I’m very pleased.
I don’t mind political memes, we’re adults and politics plays an important part of our lives, satire on politics is a welcome part of life, BUT… why must they all be foreign memes from the Americas?
We should have a mix of political memes from all around the globe! Gods knows, Sunak or Braverman are deserving of memery… :-P

It’s a major historically cross platform franchise, for one thing.
The Activision Blizzard merger and the UK’s serious reservations about Microsoft’s monopoly makes this news even more important.
Should this game be restricted to Microsoft platforms and not include the Sony platform , it would show that they are lying about being well intentioned and non monopolistic.
The same as always, why wouldn’t it be? I decide how much capacity I want on my phone, pop it in, format and encrypt, and it amalgamates with the rest of my storage. Perfection.
