MagneticFusion,

please, fucking la fitness is a dick when it comes to that. Glad Louis Rossman made a video abt it

MagneticFusion,

once again apple marketing making it SEEM like they care about your privacy

MagneticFusion,

they can push a new TOS to the app store mandating that push nitifs be handled the same way signal handles them.

MagneticFusion,

the way signal and some privacy friendly apps do it is they send a blank notif first to wake up the app and then send the notif directly to you

MagneticFusion,

There is P-SMS which is a fork of QKSMS, that is what I use

MagneticFusion,

Checkout P-SMS which is a fork of QKSMS

MagneticFusion,

Firefox on desktop has an option when copying links to copy without site tracking

MagneticFusion,

If you had a Pixel you should have seriously looked into installing GrapheneOS

What phone do you sugest for your grandparents?

I got a task to buy a smart phone for my grandparents, they are not techsavy but they know how to use basic functions. Iam looking for an andoid because it has language pack i need. I dont need it to have lots of functions, onley a good camera and a big screen. Bonus points if it can be flashed with some kind of simplefied...

MagneticFusion,

probably the worst thing for elderly considering how many very minor for us but very difficult for older folks issues you will come across

MagneticFusion,

it is basic but you rum into compatibility issues every once in a while which they will not be able to figure out. And also, if you don’t agree with the Foss apps, it means you will just install the regular familiar google apps, which if you do that, does not make much of a difference if you are on GOS or stock Android

MagneticFusion,

the same aurora store that wouldnt work for half the times and you would have to go to the google play website for an application and click on “open in app” on ur browser?

doesn’t seem very intuitive for an 80 year old

MagneticFusion, (edited )

I love the interface and tried using it for a bit but it is just not functional. By that I mean, the app does not have any notifications. So, if you have the setting on the mode where it does a pop up notification instead of taking up ur entire screen, you literally will not be able to answer or decline the phone call because no notifications pop up. This also means that while you are in a call, if you swipe out of the app and go back in, you won’t be able to pull up the current call to end it or mute or put on hold or any of that.

Although I am running GrapheneOS on a Pixel and that might be the problem but I doubt it because I saw similar problems on the Github issues and the Play Store ratings are not that good.

Edit: this issue is only with version 1.6, version 1.5 does send notifications. But version 1.5 does not have the option to not make the call take up the entire screen which is a bummer.

MagneticFusion,

How come? Does it require Google Play?

MagneticFusion,

Mint XFCE but soon switching to OpenSuSE Tumbleweed with Gnome

MagneticFusion,

If this is your first time using Linux, just use Linux Mint. Stable, popular, good package support, etc. Once u feel more ready you can dip your hands in other distros.

MagneticFusion,

I understand all the downsides of RCS. I am not saying I will drop everything and proudly use RCS, but the fact of the matter is it is a massive improvement over SMS in terms of privacy and security and just quality. I want to know how I will be able to do this using Google’s Messages app on a currently deGoogled phone running GrapheneOS, while providing the least amount of data possible (ideally would like to avoid installing sandboxed Google Play services)

Privacy benefits of Custom roms

So recently my moto G60 reached the end of life with respect to security updates. That was the reason I was using to prevent myself from switching to a custom rom(actual reason is laziness). This phone has rom support for pixel experience and lineage OS. So my questions are if pixel experience has any privacy advantages when...

MagneticFusion,

not having gapps is a MASSIVE privacy improvement as it is

MagneticFusion,

on Firefox Desktop go to about:config and toggle cookiebanners.service.mode and toggle it from 0 to 1. You can also put it on 2 but 2 accepts the cookies if it can’t figure out how to reject. Whereas one always auto rejects when possible and if it can’t figure it out, it will just not do anything although this is very rare and leave it up to you

MagneticFusion,

I do eventually plan on switching over to OpenSUSE when I have more free time on my hands for a full fresh setup and to learn a new distro, but as of now I am a busy college student so I am not looking to switch until the summer

MagneticFusion,

A computer will never have emotions the same way a human has emotions. It is not a living creature. True and genuine human connection is something that will only become more invaluable with the rise of AI

MagneticFusion,

you are being wildly optimistic. AI confidently lies to you about purely objective things such as asking it to write a program and it confidently writes it wrong and tells you that it is correct over and over. Something like psychology and mental health is far from objective and is constantly evolving, and also differs from person to person based on a gazillion different variables, the most important of them being emotion, something a robot will most likely never have. Even some living animals do not have a wide range of emotions such as snakes that only feel fear and anger, they don’t feel sadness or happiness or anything. What would make you think that artificially created robots would have enough emotional intelligence to replace human psychologists within 5 years?

MagneticFusion,

Thank you for this. It gives a totally new and fresh look to Firefox which looks pretty bare bones

MagneticFusion,

I believe no. I’m running Firefox with arkenfox user.js and when I take this test www.bromite.org/detect it shows a new and different fingerprint if everytime i close and reopen the browser. Feel free to try it for yourself.

And while Brave may be private from outsiders, it is far from private from Brave Software themselves and I wouldn’t trust them if I was honest with you. If you want an alternative chromium based browser, check out Vivaldi. They don’t have aaaas many privacy features built in as Brave does but you can still get very private and obviously tack on Ublock origin and a customized DNS block list like you normally would with any other browser. And they are significantly more trustworthy than Brave

MagneticFusion,

There is also P-SMS which is a fork of QKSMS with local encryption

MagneticFusion,

How do you add custom filters to ublock?

I made it to Linux! What is your must-have FOSS or Free Software for linux?

Thank you so much, comrades! I am feeling pretty comfortable with linux mint, and now would like some suggestions for some absolutely necessary FOSS or free license software for the OS. So far I have the standard, Firefox, ThunderBird, LibreOffice, yada yada. Thank you again to everyone on the linux comm! sankara-salute

MagneticFusion,

I have multihop VPN set up, exiting from Switzerland, and entering from the US, only because certain websites display different results depending on your IP location, and if you have like let’s say a Swedish IP the websites will load up in Swedish and it’s a pain in the ass

MagneticFusion,

Bush. The war crimes are inexcusable

I use Brave to test whether my websites work on Chromium browsers, but their scummy actions lately make me want to find a new Chromium browser to test with. What's the best Chromium based browser?

I already use Firefox for browsing normally, but I have to test on a Chromium based browser too. One soft requirement is that it should be installable with Flatpak on Linux.

MagneticFusion,

Why not just base Chromium?

MagneticFusion,

ungoogled chromium then

MagneticFusion,

I love Vivaldi, if only it were not Chromium based. But even then, if Firefox were to ever die (assuming Vivaldi is still alive and well) I am switching to Vivaldi

MagneticFusion,

This

MagneticFusion,

Do it, I’ll just use a Bing based engine 🤣🤣🤣🤣

MagneticFusion,

And people will still shill brave

MagneticFusion,

Enthusiast grade is better for almost every use case

MagneticFusion,

how the fuck is spotting fake reviews on Amazon political?
