Only a fascist trying to be a dictator would actually do this.
Sounds like rather than patchwork mini laws like this, they need to revamp the system to ensure no single person can take such drastic overreaching action.
Lets not forget that a president/prime minister isn’t the singular person in charge, they’re merely the figurehead/frontman of an entire government of elected people, as well add representing their party, and of course ultimately are a civil servant working at the pleasure of the people.
95% of the things the president does should go through proper democratic channels within the government and not simply rubber stamped by a single person, that path is the path towards dictatorship.
The few exceptions are rare things that can’t be put to a vote or through regular channels, like launching nukes, etc. But these are exceptions only.
There should never have been a situation where it was possible for a president to personally decide to change the future of the entire nation and indeed world, in such a dramatic and drastic way, without any checks and balances to ensure that it is the will of the people, out even the will of anyone else in government.
Which is why it sounds to me like they need some significant reform, rather than just making this one little change :-(
If you’re unwilling to earnestly, critically examine/scrutinize your beliefs, and discard them in failing that scrutiny or in light of new information, you are doomed to stagnate as a individual....
£1000. I could pay for my entire ADHD treatment programme from start to finish, without having to wait YEARS in a waiting list for the free treatment. It would absolutely change literally everything in my entire life, giving me a life instead of circling the drain waiting to die.
But I’ll never be able to save that kind of money, I’m an idiot and my ADHD is crippling.
I considered gofundme, but it’s already full of people who need money for ADHD treatment, and I don’t want to drown them out with yet another plea, you know?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Anyone that does crazy stuff to appease their magical man in the sky isn’t someone I’m ever going to agree with.
That aside, thank you for sharing this. Books and texts aren’t things to be afraid of, or things we should censor and keep from the public. Even if we don’t agree with a point of view, it’s important we understand it, and learn from it however we can.
It says more about the people that are trying to stop you from reading something, in fact. Those people I would never trust.
Damn, sounds like they don’t actually have the equipment to be able to properly diagnose and care for it (no x-ray machine to check if the spine is damaged).
You shouldn’t put cotton buds in your ears at all, honestly I don’t know how an industry managed to trick so many people into doing something so potentially hazardous.
If so what kind of training they would have to go through ? By training I mean the spatial and situational awareness, combat skills (this is kinda unrealistic), enough knowledge to turn any situation to their advantage etc....
Oh you’re in a boat are ya? Probably one of those librul foreign commies comin over here on your banana boats tryina climb our great trump wall (one of the wonders of the world, everyone’s jealous) to spread your ungodly socialist abortion heresy and “education” to our sweet young wives. I want to do this for my raspberry pis since they don’t have an ACPI system in place. I think it would look really nice combined with XFCE and the chicago95 theme. If it’s called NASA Plus, how is it free? The “plus” means it goes a step beyond their free content and into a paid tier.
Don’t get me wrong this is absolutely fantastic I adore NASA and space, but they’re just be some hidden cost? Otherwise it wouldn’t be a streaming service called NASA Plus, right?
Manufacturers don’t make displays under 6 inches available for purchase, with special cases (such as the iPhone Mini) being made under exclusive contracts. We already have efficient enough solar panels to make our homes self sufficient, we just can’t afford to buy them.
Even if we could, the power supply industry would see it happening, bribe and persuade the government to make it illegal to go off grid (I’m sure their solicitors would come up with “good” reasons that we should be stopped), to save their poor little shareholders.
No way will they go down without a fight. Would I love to go off grid? Sure. If I had a few grand of spending money I could easily do it. But that’s just one person, no way they’d let the entire country do it.
Within my lifetime we will see a significant chunk of building site labour be replaced by robots.
Let’s not forget this isn’t unprecedented - plenty of jobs went away with we introduced the last big technological innovation, heavy machinery, to the building site. Suddenly one guy in a JCB can do the work of 20 guys with spades, etc.
I’m not talking about replacing everyone, not within my lifetime, that’s likely silly unless there’s a technological leap we can’t yet predict.
But the simpler the labour, the more likely it’ll go, and not every site job is specialised enough that it can’t be replaced by a well trained, well developed AI system in the year 2050 built into a similarly well developed body -which exist today, are already dropping in price due to refinements and ramping up production, and by then will be as competitively priced as the cost of a human.
This is a good thing though, capitalist politics aside. The more jobs we can replace, especially hard on the body, unhealthy, often very dangerous jobs like construction, the better. Assuming we can evolve society away from our capitalist overlords and into a society that works for the people.
Anyhoo, I wouldn’t rush to retrain in another sector just yet if you’re a brickie, but if you’re just getting in to the biz, keep your options open for sure.
If you’re a lorry driver and you’re young? Spend some of your spare time retraining for a new career now, because while lorry drivers will still be needed in 30 years time before you’re set to retire, the vast majority of the work will be automated, and driver jobs will be extremely scarce compared to the large number of workers trying to get them.
Like the coal miners of yesteryear, you don’t want to wait until it’s far too late to retrain and then complain that your career is ruined. Prepare now.
Best case scenario? Your main job never goes away, but now your skill set is diversified and you’ve always got options. Worst case? Your main job does, and you luckily can fall back on your alternative options.
Whether you like the company behind it or not, a lot of fantastic niche communities found a home there, and it would be wonderful if they could find a home here too, as this platform is basically identical to Reddit with just a few tweaks and improvements.
It took them years to get to that point though, why wait for it to organically happen when we already know it’ll be successful and awesome? :-D
Not talking about you specifically, I see a lot of people that want to replace/kill Reddit and make Lemmy the next big thing, and often those same people will also not want Lemmy to copy Reddit. I find that weird, given that Reddit has been hugely successful and beloved by do many communities, so we know it works, and Lemmy is an almost identical platform, so we know the transfer/“copy” would be very successful.
I don’t mind it so much as it makes it hard to find the actual application I’m looking for most of the time. Your case here is a perfect example of this.
Google has done crappy “suggested results” for so many years now that I automatically ignore the top results from any Google search, so all this does is make it harder to find things :-(
