Lemmy Ansible 1.3.0 (Lemmy v0.19.0) update dramatically reduced performance of instance

I made the huge mistake of upgrading on the same day of the new release. I had copied my inventory folder to a new pull of lemmy-ansible, checked out 1.3.0, and ran it with no errors. But refreshing the took a very long time to load. The closest issue I found was at github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/issues/4244 but that’s a deep dive...

The lemmy frontend will come up fast, but you would see an error and a popup telling you that lemmy is still starting. If you can see content, then the DB migration is finished already. The 1.3.0 branch of ansible doesn’t have any changes which would cause performance impact. Currently it just adjusts the readme and adds pictrs 0.4.7.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yes, but those changes are not relevant to the ansible 1.3.0 deployment

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It’s not a cult, I swear! :D

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

That’s what I like to hear!

I don’t think there ever can be a better icon. Some are experimenting with a down-arrow pointing to a flat surface, but the floppy fisk is much better.

@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What if that train is regularly running under capacity, or you are just standing?

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

My bad, changed the link to their new attempt.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because it improves longevity and value for the game. Minecraft became a billion dollar business solely on the back of modders.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This looks absolutely disgusting

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You can’t do that without linking!

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’m not visiting reddit at all anymore except maybe to copy some memes. All my 3rd party dev work is focused on improving lemmy.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Also to your lemmy server 😉😅

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I also developed and am running the AI Horde but that’s not very fediverse adjacent (yet) :D

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

A mining rig should work, but you might want to restrict the GPU to one model, as loading 4G on PCIx1 when switching models would be too slow. Only one way to try it out really. At worst it could make an alchemist.

Separately do you know if AMD Radeon RX580s are capable of contributing to AI Horde?

Not currently I think

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

This trailer makes it look boring

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Lol there is no way in hell this is sustainable

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Eh, I’ve had interaction with snowe before and I found them unnecessarily confrontational. I agree that the lemmy dev comment “I hope it teaches you a lesson” could have been avoided, but the patronizing attitude I saw on github comments from snowe was also not cool.

Never have loyalty to corporations. They are not your friends they are your exploiters

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

No. One’s colleagues and peers deserve respect and loyalty (so long as they reciprocate). But not the bosses.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

loyalty and respect to your team doesn’t mean sticking around in that position. It just means not screwing them by slacking off (when the work would fall on them) or snitching or scabbing etc

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

“Work ethic” for most wage slaves, is just being a good subservient worker bee that does whatever the boss tells them. It’s a ridiculously vague term and your definition is not at all common sense. That’s why I explicitly specified “to your colleagues”.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yes, what I wrote does sound like “loyalty to one’s boss”, but not like “loyalty to your colleagues”. This is my point.

My work ethic applies to how I approach my hobbies and past-time activities as well

yes, this is your personal definition. Ask 10 people what “work ethic” means to them and you’ll likely get 11 different answers.

Until later on a random blogpost happens about “why FOSS is dying” or “why FOSS developers are rude” and you get namedropped :D

I’m waiting for the panic that will happen at the first political assassination using drones

All a community like this needs is one or two passionate people to keep posting content regularly, even if it’s just links to articles. Be the change you want to see.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Damn that’s really dystopian. It’s a credit score that directly measures how profitable you are to others as a human.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It seems to me it doesn’t count risk. It counts profitability. It’s why it drops when people pay their loans early.

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

The same reason that USA calls their brand of jingoism “freedom”

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Since spez loves following on ExTwitter moves, I can’t wait until reddit does the same.

Typical onboarding scenario is to start at low level and climb up. Apply for helpdesk positions in companies with linux infrastructure. But the game is currently moving towards devops, so I would suggest you add some knowledge like ansible and terraform in your repertoire.

Any idea what Google are doing? Is this because I dont use Chrome (use Firefox)? I've no adblockers. (lemmy.world)

So this started coming up today. On every video. I can (so far) click the “x” and remove it to watch (still see 2 ads before the video, and one after 4 minutes - ruins music on YT), but did click the “Report issue” only for the dialogue box not to work....

Lol that’s like too funny now. Hitting legitimate users with the nagware, so that the only ones having a good experience are the pirates :D Tale as old as the first VHS tape

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I know but there’s no other noun that rolls off the tongue quite the same way.

John Riccitiello is stepping down as CEO and president of Unity (investors.unity.com)

SAN FRANCISCO–(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Unity (NYSE: U) (the “Company”), the world’s leading platform for creating and growing real-time 3D (RT3D) content, today announced that John Riccitiello will retire as President, Chief Executive Officer, Chairman and a member of the Company’s Board of Directors, effective immediately....

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I’d wish him the worst, but I know he just got a golden parachute and will go to fuck up another company soon enough

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

It sounds like you have enough changes to make a new more modern guide ;)

db0,
@db0@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

y’all need to make some guides I think :)
