Edit: Tumbleweed is not immutable, you learn something new every day, especially from your mistakes 🙃 (it’s still a really nice distro)

Personally really happy with my choice of Immutable Distro: OpenSuse Tumbleweed. To me, who is half a year into using linux, its very convenient to use an immutable system as IF i were to do a wrong command or whatever its super easy to rollback the system (at least on Suse as it uses btrfs-filesystem). Another thing worth mentioning which is also why I chose to go with immutable is that it really teaches you “the good standards” of where to tinker with files and where not to, at least for a beginner like myself this is very nice.

Fjor,

Oh wow, won’t you look at that! 😅 Well that jsut shows my lack of experience I guess. I swear I heard it somewhere and just believed it was. Or maybe I misread and read that MicroOS and Aeon was, therefore assumed Tumbleweed was… My bad!

Fjor,

Thanks for such a detailed answer! How does the I2P speeds compare to running torrents over VPN? I assume its a lot slower?

Fjor,

You my man, have a brain the sized of a planet! Thanks for all the explanations! ✨

Fjor,

Yeah thats fine, I was just wondering how the speed varied from one solution to the other.

Fjor,

Nice find! Good time killer for when on the bus for sure 🙌

Fjor,

Europeans when Americans use Fahrenheit: 😵‍💫

[Question] Which shell prompt do you use and why?

Hi. I’ve been using powerlevel10k for a long time, but a few days ago, I decided I wanted to customize it a bit. I opened the .p10k.zsh file, and I was shocked. It’s really massive, with TONS of options. I’ve been digging through for a few hours already, and it’s absolutely amazing how much you can customize it without...

Fjor,

Didn’t know about Tide, super neat! ✨

Fjor,
  • OpenSuse
  • Debian
  • Alpine

Would be the three I’d choose from atleast.

Fjor,

Very nice and clean! What editor/setup have you got at the bottom?

Fjor,

Well the link wasn’t to Norton, it was to a PC security channel that covers why it’s bad.

Fjor,

That’s a great picture!

Since Brave is apparently absolutely terrible, is Vivaldi any better?

I daily drive Firefox, but more and more websites are starting to break without Chromium, so I still have to occasionally switch to get something working. I was using Ungoogled Chromium until I realized that there was no easy way to update it when that pixel-stealing exploit came out a while back....

Fjor,

Are you sure about the telemetry? Just watched an interview between the CEO and Techlore. And the CEO said that there is strictly no telemetrics…

Fjor,

I use Vivaldi alongside Firefox. And yes, Vivaldi is great. It has a really really nice tab management system which I really wish was on Firefox. Otherwise it’s very fast and very customisable. I recommend to at least give it a solid try.

Although not OpenSource it is Source Available: vivaldi.com/source/

Sorry that was my question, dont want to use the port twice, I want to tell the compose file what to use for each container, but I dont know how.

  • Fixed the title, mb
Fjor,

Right, my bad for the misleading/wrong title. This is my question - how do i map a port to a container that uses network_mode: …

Fjor,

how haha

Fjor,

sorry im still quite new to this… do u have an example of another compose file that does this? Not sure where I put what.

Fjor,

Ah thanks! That solves one of the services at least. Merciii <3

Fjor,

but I thought the containers had to have “network_mode: container:vpn”, in order to strictly only be able to communicate through the VPN.

Fjor,

when I do this I get the error message that the ports are already in use by the vpn container :|

Fjor,

mercii :)

Fjor,

Yeah wanted to use them before, but it’s a solid no go. Can’t see this search engine living for long…

Fjor,

Couldn’t agree any more… Been hearing really good things about Vintage Story lately. Might pick that up next!

Fjor,

Mental Outlaws tech content is good. But wish he would leave his political views out…

Fjor,

He is very pro to Guns…

Fjor,

Thanks for the insight! ✨

Fjor,

Yeah have really considered this recently. Would prefer it for the sake of total control.

Fjor,

Not bad, quite like this! also had a few issues with nextcloud previously, but that is a long time ago, have heard it has improved quite a bit since.

Fjor,

If it works for you then that’s great. Personally I don’t touch either Microsoft or Google anymore for privacy reasons.

Fjor,

How’s your experience with them? They seem very promising!

Fjor,

Just wish they prioritised Linux more… 🙃

Fjor,

I was not aware of this! Thanks for the insights 💪

Fjor,

Love this YT channel, pure gold this dude!

I had a dream about windows and have decided to setup Linux on my laptop. What distro should I use?

I used Ubuntu once a few years ago but had compatability issues so I went back to windows. Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn. I’m not looking to do much gaming beyond DOOM2 and factorio. Mostly looking for privacy and a way to get back into programming (I have this pipe dream of learning Assembly). I’m not to...

Fjor,

I really liked OpenSuse when I tried it, but personally want slower releases. Very glad to hear that they just released the new Slowroll distro regarding this. Might have to switch back now… 😅

Fjor,

It’s plenty good out of the box, it was my first distro and I had a great time with it. But after learning more about what I like about a distro I ended up changing. But I’m glad it was my first 😉

Fjor,

As it was my first distro I felt that most things just worked out of the box, compared to what I have learned and experienced on other distro. It has good Nvidia support which is why I chose it. I only switched as I want to distro hop to find what I like the best and to learn 🙌

Considering PopOS is well maintained and supported by System76 I wouldn’t worry about driver issues.

Fjor,

Love this! I recently started up !foraging, as the previous one vanished out of thin air. Got over 100subs in just a day! Was very happy to see so many partake in the joy of foraging. Hopefully more will come to share their findings. There are loads to be harvested from the natural world, that would be great additions to ones foodporn 🙌

🌳

Fjor,

Yupp, and open source of course ✨

Fjor,

Yes you can get Copilot running, although last time I did it required a few extra steps. The guide I was using was on Github I believe. I would try to find it for you, but busy rn 🙃
