U.S. asserts support for Canada amid confrontation with India over Sikh activist's death (www.cbc.ca)

Late Tuesday, the U.S. vehemently denied the idea that it has been reluctant to speak publicly on Canada’s behalf amid allegations by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau that the Indian government participated in the extrajudicial killing of a Canadian citizen on Canadian soil....

It’s definitely a case of foreign interference, we have a justice system and diplomatic relations to deal with this.

Right now the message that India sent is that it thinks Canada is unable to deal with its own affairs and humiliated them on the international scene, which is a big deal in diplomatic relations.

@support Yesterday I saw this post https://beehaw.org/post/7776438 where it used the non-propagation of deleted posts as an example of one of the problems of the Lemmy platform. Today, this post https://lemmy.world/post/5289864 says there's "a bug in kbin where moderation tasks are not federated to other instances".. i'm confused, isn't that a problem coming from the underlying software, Lemmy? Are they shifting blame?

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

The issue is that kbin actions to delete/moderate a submission aren’t sent to other federated servers, increasing the moderation workloads to all instance admins.

Kbin and Lemmy are compatible in a way through the underlying protocol (ActivityPub), but on the surface they’re two entirely different codebases with their own quirks.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

There are two different issues, kbin will simply not federate mod actions, while in Lemmy you need to make some steps in the right order. If you ban then purge the content a little later it will federate the ban, while if you do it the opposite way it will not federate the ban and leave the content up on other instances.

The only trust I will have with IoT companies is if they let me set up my own set of E2EE keys, combined with an independent security audit proving they use strong encryption schemes as well as the inability to access the cleartext data in transit or at rest.

The only sane level of trust in computing related to personal data is zero-trust.

It could be a “language” issue. The Lemmy interface doesn’t tell you which languages are currently allowed in a community, and if the community mods turned off “Undetermined” (which isn’t recommended) and you post in a tagged language that isn’t allowed it will keep spinning forever. The UX isn’t great on that front…

Inert gas asphyxiation is considered as painless.

Accordingly, the human subject detects little abnormal sensation as the oxygen level falls. This leads to asphyxiation (death from lack of oxygen) without the painful and traumatic feeling of suffocation (the hypercapnic alarm response, which in humans arises mostly from carbon dioxide levels rising), or the side effects of poisoning.

Starfield update 1.7.29 released. Information about FOV slider/brightness/contrast/HDR settings + Nvidia DLSS support on PC coming in future updates (bethesda.net)

*CRAP lol it was pointed out that the FOV/brightness/DLSS stuff will come in FUTURE updates. I really should have waited to see the update in action before posting that original title. Was confused at why I couldn’t find the settings. Sorry for anyone that got confused by me :(...

Copy the link on the 2FA installation link button in your Lemmy account settings and put in the secret= value inside the Secret Key (required) field of 2FAS (heads up, it’s going to be fairly long), and under additional info you need to change the Algorithm to SHA256. Everything else stays the same.

Another way would be to use an addon (ex: on Firefox) to generate a QR code from your desktop browser by right-clicking the 2FA installation link and clicking QR code from link, then scan the QR code into 2FAS.

Always make sure you have a backup of your 2FAS data, either local or cloud-based.

APKmirror only hosts APKs that matches the vendor digital signature, you won’t find modified stuff there. So in terms of safety it’s as safe as the Play Store itself.

We make sure that the cryptographic signatures for new versions of all previously published apps match the original ones, which means we know if uploaded APKs were signed by the real devs or someone pretending to be them.

Beehaw on Lemmy: The long-term conundrum of staying here

Yesterday, you probably saw this informal post by one of our head admins (Chris Remington). This post lamented some of the difficulties we’re running into with the site at this point, and what the future might hold for us. This is a more formal post about those difficulties and the way we currently see things....

mp3,

I’m sad to see how dire the situation is on the moderation and admin side of things, but I just wanted to say best of luck and wish you the best no matter what you decide.

The communities in this instance are occupying a good portion of my subscriptions (quality content most of the time) and I’ll definitely miss them if you end up leaving the fediverse.

Could be a rare win for both parties when I’m sure there’s some bean counters going “but if the controllers break more often we can sell more controllers!”

Hopefully a class-action wipes off all profits gained from that way of thinking.

At least one class-action going ahead so far.
