A good use of AI. This is what the future was supposed to look like.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah there is that I suppose.

Anyway, I’ve had this odd little cough lately…

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

We gave away for more than that on covid scams. That we will never recover. Collect the correct amount of tax from a few companies/individuals and we could build 10 of these.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

How did they disguise it as an SU30? One of them has a twin tailplane.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Thanks ;-)

Thing is, I’ve never has a problem with this - it works out at £35.88 (£2.99 x 12) per year for my HP Envy 5032. I don’t use their paper and have only once in 3 years run over allowance. I print about 2 or 3 times per week, sometimes more. I don’t change the ink as soon as warning comes on, I’ll wait until prints start deteriorating. Like I say - it’s not a problem. Just under £36 per year for ink isn’t a deal breaker for me. Having the right cartridge available without trying to find a shop selling them is.

Edit. Just to point out I’ve used printers from most of them. Colour/black and white lasers. Multifunction printers, photo, label printers and all.

Samsung colour laser was the best, but can’t justify the price now.

If I want photos, I get them done by a photo service. They will always have a better printer than me, and can afford the overheads.

If HP ever stiff the firmware and I can’t get CUPS to run it I’ll bin it.

Until then, it stays on my shelf and prints every few days. For £2.99 a month.

I never see any recommendations for MeWe here.

Does it have that bad a reputation?

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Brilliant. Gave my wife £50 as she was going to do some shopping with her sister and I said I’d pay for lunch.

They didn’t have lunch but she spent over £50 on wrapping paper and ‘gift bags’ even though we have loads at home 😒

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Even worse if you’re a whale 😞

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

As others have said keep going through S1. It sets the scene nicely for bigger things later on. I personally rate it as one of the best things I’ve ever seen on TV. Certainly the best sci-fi I’ve ever seen.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

She really is pushing her own agenda here isn’t she?

There was a post here the other day suggesting she’s trying to get sacked. Have to agree.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

As long as they do it silently 😉

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Possibly could have reworded that last sentence. Unless it was a deliberate pun?

Can’t think what they’d want from this though. And why the police? They’ve got better things to do, this is a health matter.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Definitely, instead of a pretend burger or chicken. I get why some people do it, and we do it a home quite a bit with pretend mince etc. I always feel a bit of a cheat though and am trying and steer my wife away from that.

Embrace the veg!

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Yes, what is the deal? I can’t say that I’ve noticed any issues. Am in UK if that makes a difference. And I usually run it through Proton VPN.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I’m sticking with Beehaw, thanks to some awfully crap communities (courtesy of Lemmy) showing up in the ‘all’ feed. I’m continually blocking them, but somehow they’ll be back a few days later.

And before you scream at me to ‘stick to subscribed’, how else am I supposed to find interesting content?

I know that I’m not going to want to see a lot of subs, I understand that.

Just don’t want them back once I’ve (supposedly) blocked them.

I know it’s an issue that possibly only affects me, but if Beehaw jumps ship from Lemmy, the crap will be a lot easier to manage.

That’s my €2 anyway.

YMMV

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Holy crap, that’s depressing.

And whitey wonders why the locals have got the arseache.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Darwin awards will benefit - if that’s the right term.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I see your point, but anyone with an ounce of intelligence will steer well clear of these.

That said, Amazon should be held responsible for deliberately promoting false and dangerous information.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Trusting Amazon’s AI produced books.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

True. Does it not say or does it even give a fictitious author? Amazon should be held accountable if that’s the case.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I can see that, especially in the USA. Can’t have those giant burgers, steaks and ribs made from tofu or soy can you?

All those cowboys would be out of a job, and I bet the NRA are having none of it!

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Hasn’t this always been the case?

Israel has not been a shining example of virtue over the years. I’m not excusing the disgusting actions by the other side, where they are proved true, as some of the pictures have already been discounted, but this would only make Israel come down harder.

I don’t the have an answer, but what ever us happening now is certainly not it.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Not what I said at all.

Nobody wins here. Parading mutilated corpses and taking hostages is not ‘supporting the struggle’ though.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I totally agree, I’m not cutting Israel any slack here - their treatment of Palestine has been awful - and if they weren’t so chummy with USA it’d be a different story. But parading mutilated corpses in the streets etc? There’s no excuse. Whatever side you’re on.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

This. I’ve only use FB on desktop. And that’s only to keep up with some local news/events and ex army mates. There are less than a half dozen now as I thin them out. It’s removed/disabled on my phone. Sometimes I’ll go a week before looking at it.

That’s why I like it here. It’s a breath of fresh air.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Not if they’ve been declared as subhuman. We seem to be heading that way.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

That’s an expensive paperweight.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

You’ve got my vote.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I like onions. But if you’d give up your garlic, I’d have to balance it out and do away with them. It’s only fair.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I have food without garlic.

It’s not boring at all.

Jains don’t think so either.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Same here. I did the trial 300 search thing and was very happy with that. Settling on the fiver a month plan as I can’t justify a tenner. Plus I realised that I don’t do much more than about 300 searches.

It’s so refreshing to not have ‘sponsored’ posts or adverts in front of your results.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Just cannot get on with it. Have tried a few times over the years.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Radio ParadiseThey have Main, Rock, Mellow and Global streams. Been listening since they started and Global is currently my favourite.

Why are you still wearing a mask...wrong?

All the time I have people come in to work wearing a mask, which is fine normally, good for them, but they are wearing them on their chin, chin diaper style. Not covering up anything. Or at best just their mouth, sometimes. Nobody is making these people wear a mask anymore, so why are they doing it at all if they are just going...

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

We have one person in our office like this. He also only wears it occasionally!

A High Priority for Moving Away from Lemmy

Several months ago Beehaw received a report about CSAM (i.e. Child Sexual Abuse Material). As an admin, I had to investigate this in order to verify and take the next steps. This was the first time in my life that I had ever seen images such as these. Not to go into great detail, but the images were of a very young child...

Beehaw on Lemmy: The long-term conundrum of staying here

Yesterday, you probably saw this informal post by one of our head admins (Chris Remington). This post lamented some of the difficulties we’re running into with the site at this point, and what the future might hold for us. This is a more formal post about those difficulties and the way we currently see things....

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

If you decide to move and leave all the cack behind, I’m in.

I’ll probably be more involved and would even be willing to chip in with a small subscription. That or registered users may also keep a lot of the trolls away.

I'm so tired of the current state of the internet

Everywhere you browse, people have such strong opinions about everything and are so toxic or extremely negative. You start playing a game, want to check the forums or something and most of the posts are people being mean to each other. You open social media to keep in touch with people that you’d like to maintain a certain...

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Hey no complaints about grammar or language here - it’s better than some native ‘speakers’ I’ve heard!

Agree though, everywhere you go people are being triggered by the slightest thing - it’s like the start of some sci-fi novel.

You’re welcome here though, a small refreshing corner of the net ;-)

Prominent "free-speech absolutist" threatens to sue Jewish anti-hate group because it engaged in free speech he didn't like.

"Elon Musk has threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League after accusing the civil rights group that campaigns against antisemitism and bigotry of trying to “kill” his X social media platform.

"The owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, said the ADL was trying to shut down his company by 'falsely accusing it and me of being antisemitic'."

If your list of enemies includes the ADL, then there's a more-than-reasonable chance that you're an anti-semite.

Where To Find Actually Good Search Engines?

I’m kind of tired of Google sending me to the same 3 sites whenever I search for something. If not the same 3 sites it’s 7 others that are so generic and boring I just feel they’re useless. It’s always makeuseof, androidauthority, or whatever other sites that have useful information but I rarely feel like they are saying...

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

Yes, I tried that and have now got to the susbscribe or move on phase.

Went back to DDG and results really are not in the same league as Kagi so I may just cough up.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

They can’t come quick enough for me. I can go to work after a night out without fear I might still be over the limit. I won’t have to drive my wife everywhere. Old people will not be prisoners in their own homes. No more nobheads driving about with exhausts that sound like a shoot out with the cops. No more aresholes speeding about and cutting you up. No more hit and runs. Traffic accident numbers falling through the floor. In fact it could even get to a point where the only accidents are the fault of pedestrians/cyclists not looking where they are going.

baggins,
@baggins@beehaw.org avatar

I think you might need lights for pedestrians at crossings.

I did wonder if ambulances would need sirens but again, pedestrians!

I loved this snippet. “Three times as many unique visitors in July visited the websites for The Old Farmer’s Almanac and the Denver Gazette, Similarweb estimates show”.
