The reason we don’t build nuclear power plants anymore (including small modular), is because they’re insanely expensive, produce only a small amount of power compared to you can produce with renewables, and always come with cost overruns. Nuclear power is the techsploitation of of tbe 60’s and 70’s. Most governments look at the economics now and realize they can do solar plus storage for a fraction of the immediate and long term cost.
At some point decades from now maybe? I still think nuclear and fusion research are important for human civilization, I just think it’s stupid to waste money on building power plants using nuclear technology in its current state.
2020 was… truly unique. It was so hard to stay away from doom scrolling, and I (and many others) were pretty disillusioned by the sad fact that so much of our country legitimately supported the Orange Man. I didn’t get a wink of sleep the night of the election because I genuinely considered it to be a make or break decision...
Hilary Clinton in the 2016 election had supported Trump in the primaries because she thought noone would vote for that idiot. The Democrat Party apparatus will support worse than Trump in the future if they think it will help their chances of winning. You don’t want to wait another 4 years for change 🤷♂️
This is difficult to explain. I can’t figure out a rule of thumb for spending, the prices of things fluctuate so quickly it’s confusing. Here are some examples...
Germany is now running deficits to support a war that’s already been decided. Ukraine is a corrupt country where many weapons given to it find their way onto the international black market. The standard of living in Germany is getting worse. Using deficit spending on a non-productive good like weapons to a foreign country that is corrupt will accelerate Germany’s decline.
If you’re going to stop Russia from invading Ukraine why aren’t you putting German troops in Ukraine? You’re not helping your partner your killing Ukranians to weaken America’s enemy. Tell me what the difference between Israel and Russia is and what they’re doing to their smaller neighbours is. And then tell me why Germany condemns one atrocity but supports the other. It’s not about supporting a partner and I think you’re being naive or disingeneous if you think so.

The guy who founded owncloud (Frank), sold it to american venture capitalists. When Frank didn’t like how the VCs were planning to enshittify Owncloud, he forked the project and moved it back to Germany from Boston. The American VCs saw this, realized they couldn’t exploit the software anymore, so they sold Owncloud to a group of German businessmen. Ironically for Frank there are now two german owned non-VC backed cloud software based on the same code. But yeah they’re taking different strategic paths for growth.

I’ve no problem with using LibreOffice for most of my document needs, but i haven’t found a good substitute for microsoft’s OneNote yet. I mainly use it to plan my RPG games and it helps a lot. What alternatives are there for organizing notes on linux, with similar features to those that OneNote provides?
I’m using it and it’s pretty good. It’s arguably too feature rich though. I mean that in every right click you have like 20 options. It’s overwhelming.
Also I use the cloud sync and every few days something doesn’t sync properly when you’re typing and it asks you to re-sync. And so you have to wait a minute while it re-builds the entire index. It doesn’t happen often but when it does it’s annoying.
Between the two I recommend OnlyOffice because it has better export compatibility, a PDF editor, seamless interchange between their desktop, mobile, and web versions, and a nicer UI. You’d only need LibreOffice if you’re doing very advanced document formatting or very niche scientific or financial formulas. LibreOffice has been around for a lot longer than OnlyOffice so its got more edge use cases figured out. Onlyoffice is more modern and IMO feels like a smoother experience with the UI.
Foreign Minister Eli Cohen told Israeli Army Radio that Israel's war aims are not just the total destruction of Hamas, but the country also aims to reduce the size of Gaza. The pronouncement is the most explicit indication yet that Israel will move to annex parts of Gaza, as some analysts have speculated.
Feel like mainstream Israel society has been pretty dogmatized if they elected that fascist into power again. Agree with the rest of your analysis that they’re going to annex as much of Gaza as possible. Israel’s goal is to get Palestinians into the Sinai peninsula, with USA support they might do it in the next decade. I’m curious what will happen after the complete annexation of Palestine. Does US weapons aid stop? Does Israel become more of an apartheid state?
15 years ago I thought the Germans were the smartest people in the world because they understood the importance of investing in public services and had a central european style of capitalism that focused on fundamentals over financialization. since then they’ve slowly been adopting more neoliberal policies and making really stupid foreign policy decisions. I’ve lost a lot of respect for them as a world leader.
For me it’s a tie between Oracle, Atlassian, and Microsoft.
All three of them have built their business models around intentional poor design = money for extra services. They could make their software easier and more functional, but they intentionally don’t so because it would hurt their profits. That kind of greed is inexcusable to me.

Your points dispproving hydrogen as a viable energy solution for the future are a bit silly. It’s like saying the future isn’t possible because what is available now. I would actually say you’re being anti-intellectual because you’re not being open minded and solution oriented, which are intellectual traits.
Some professors have actually done the methodical research to find out this is, in fact, true. There’s no shadowy elite there’s just an elite that has a policy towards this: www.amazon.com/…/1594516820

You’re definitely from reddit if your being pedantic about what a military Commander is saying to rally his cause. “Actshually there are other occupations going on”. Also are you really trying to make this about Ukraine??
Oh the motive is probably because NATO is an organisation that overthrows governments like Libya. They probably wanted to see what NATO was planning on doing in Niger or another country they want to exploit.
NodeBB and other forum software have added activityPub integration on their dev roadmaps, so you might see it become a thing again. Personally I don’t want to create a new forum account for every thing I’m interested in.
