yeah i mean this is the veto even if we wanted to do this (which we don’t) and even if the community wanted it (which they clearly don’t seem to–nobody’s clamored for us to federate with Threads). even a tiny fraction of a fraction of threads being involved with our site would probably top the peak of workload we had when Lemmy took off. there is no current realistic circumstance in which we’d ever choose to or be able to federate with them.

just so we’re clear here: not only is this obviously me speaking personally (which the screenshot illustrates)–and not only is this a position i’ll stand by absolutely–but i think this is also a circumstance where “objecting to doxing” is really silly. many of these people aren’t 4chan edgelords, they’re just aspiring terrorists. Midgard is widely believed to be associated with the Nordic Resistance Movement, which has a long history of criminality, violence, ethnic hatred, killing, and attempted terrorism. NRM in its own right has a wide array of connections with other violent, neo-Nazi organizations like Atomwaffen and the Azov Battalion. the supposedly objectionable article says as much.

In its write-up, AFA Stolkholm says the men who run Midgård are connected to the Nordic Resistance Movement. Founded in 1999, the Nordic Resistance has long been one of Scandinavia’s longest-lasting and most dangerous neo-Nazi organizations. Members have been arrested for a myriad of violent crimes, including assault and murder.

i think it’s pretty understandable to want to publicize the names and addresses of people in the vicinity of or party to an organization like this for a wide variety of reasons, especially if you’re a group they might target! but, and this is another thing that makes this a rather bizarre hill to die on: the article being objected to also didn’t do that. it did not provide a link to any of the information in question, it just reported on it being posted and its significance. this is not “doxing”, this is just journalism about a doxing event. add to this not being posted on Beehaw (i.e., something we’re not even directly responsible for from a moderation perspective), and this seems like a wildly overblown reaction to a pretty banal article reporting on an action that i think is extremely morally and socially defensible.

this is going to be locked for a variety of reasons:

1. this is essentially propaganda/an extremely biased opinion piece
2. it uncritically adopts the framing of Elise Stefanik when she is neither a good faith actor generally, nor asking questions about “calling for the genocide of the Jews” in good faith. it’s very clear she just means “pro-Palestinian demonstrators” when she talks about people “calling for genocide” and that’s stupid.
3. it’s just not a good article, generally. there are plenty of other, better articles that can be used as a vessel to talk about Israel-Palestine (including ones that have a pro-Israeli voice)

this seems soon-to-be the Embracer cut. this company fucking sucks man. hate this shit

VGC reported earlier this month that Free Radical was at threat of being closed just two years after it was established, as part of huge company-wide cuts at Embracer and its owned publishers.

Although Embracer has yet to publicly confirm Free Radical’s position, sources told VGC that Wingefors has now acknowledged in a company e-mail that the Nottingham, UK-based company could be closed on December 11, following the completion of a consultation process.

i suspect that two things are going on here: China may either be playing both sides/otherwise have shifting allegiances depending on the situation, and the rebel groups are heterogeneous in terms of who they look to for support (since there are like 50 different ethnic rebel groups fighting the government right now). it’s a very multifaceted situation in general.

And apparently, in the USA there is a whole party devoted to child marriage and other ways to have sex with minors. That might be the better point to start, because they actually have a say regarding laws on that matter.

i’m not sure why we’re acting as if condemning Richard Stallman and the Republican Party for their equally bad takes in this sphere are mutually exclusive of each other.
