Each TV brand basically has its own proprietary control scheme, so even if you find an app, it might not support your specific TV model.

Do you mind sharing the specific TV model you’re looking to control?

Despite all my research, I couldn’t find anything that would be FOSS and operate in a generic way.

  • I searched for a FOSS app that could pair with Google TV over WiFi, no success.
  • I searched for a FOSS app that could pair with Android over bluetooth and act as a remote, no success.
  • I searched if there was an RS232 port on the TV, a bluetooth-to-RS232 dongle could have done the trick with some configuration, alas no RS232.
  • I searched if there was an HDMI-to-bluetooth dongle that could send HDMI-CEC commands, but I’m not sure that would work.
  • Another option, if you have an audio jack would be to use a 3.5mm IR transmitter and send “sound clips” as IR transmission. Some of these dongle are able to “read” the IR transmission and convert them into “sound”, which you can “play back” through the dongle.

I’m kinda out of ideas at this point.

Google is in a vicious cycle of making their ads even longer and unskippable, which pushes more people to look into ways of blocking ads. They’re perpetuating the cycle of enshittification with their stubbornness.

My oldest kid (6yo) is currently having fun with Goat Simulator ¯_(ツ)_/¯ and yes, I bought the expansions.

He doesn’t play online yet, but I have Minecraft on the PS4 so that may be an option later on.

Other options I can think of that would be appropriate and multiplayer

    • Rocket League
    • Fall Guys
    • Party Animals
    • Portal 2
    • Astroneer
    • Human Fall Flat

Is Ubuntu deserving the hate? (lemmy.ml)

Long story short, I have a desktop with Fedora, lovely, fast, sleek and surprisingly reliable for a near rolling distro (it failed me only once back around Fedora 34 or something where it nuked Grub). Tried to install on a 2012 i7 MacBook Air… what a slog!!! Surprisingly Ubuntu runs very smooth on it. I have been bothering all...

There is some stuff that I hate, but I tend to come back to it for my home server just because of livepatch, which is nice to minimize the amount of reboots necessary and having a patched kernel for all my LXCs makes then also automatically protected.

Make sure your Jerboa app is at ≥ 0.53, the Play Store version is currently lagging behind at 0.50.

He did, sometimes the issue is with Google taking a long time to release the update to the general public, especially with smaller apps.

Not fulfilling a promise build distrust, but ultimately it depends on multiple factors to determine if an unkept promise is a lie.

A promise can be made using incomete knowledge of all the variables, and further down the road as you get a clearer picture you realize this promise cannot be kept.

The intention behind the promise, and how transparent you are about the possible outcome is important between failing to keep your promise and outright lying about it by keeping everyone in the dark as long as possible (to the benefit of the person who made that promise and to the detriment of everyone else).

Same, I still want to see some non-pr0n NFSW stuff so that really helps.

    mp3,

    Yeah, lesson learned :/

I’ll compile a list of apps and see how we can track which one are ready for any API breaking changes before we do the server update.

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

What’s even worse is that the Jerboa developer is one of the Lemmy dev, he could litterally see this coming a mile away :/

But on the other hand he’s at the mercy of Google making the update available whenever they feel like it.

It requires the base game (which is free)

and adds several paid expansions as well as some extras

That collection is normally priced at $59.99

Interesting, but sadly Audire uses non-free API for the recognition (Shazam and AUDD).

I don’t know how feasible it would be to create an open platform to store audio fingerprints for recognition, and even better if it could be downloaded and used locally for more privacy. From what I remember when I explored this some time ago, AcoustID isn’t a good candidate for live recognition like Shazam and SoundHound does.

Personally I find the milanese loop with a magnetic holder is a great in-between for a casual yet comfortable look.

If the watch doesn’t have the standard lugs I get an adapter kit so that I can use whatever standard watchband is on the market so that I don’t find myself limited to specific watchband for that model (smartwatches are bad for this…)

Once installed it will fit however tight you want, and it will loosen itself if it’s way too tight when doing something a bit physical.

There are other Prime Gaming listings in this community, and I already pay for Prime for other stuff so for me it’s an added bonus, as I get to keep it later even if I unsub later on.

Anyway, I wanted to highlight the availability to those who can grab it before it expires.

Why can't OSM zoom in farther? (www.openstreetmap.org)

In the web UI, OSM can’t be zoomed in far enough to see the names of POIs in reasonably dense areas. I can get around this by going into edit mode, and mobile apps don’t have this restriction. But the out-of-the-box experience, for non-insiders just using the web site, doesn’t reveal all that OSM has to offer....

    mp3,
    @mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

The website relies on something called tiles to display the map, which are prerendered blocks at different zoom levels.

    wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tiles

In order to make any kind of devices able to visualize the map, the tile server will distribute rasterized tiles, which are easy to process even on a low-powered device. The drawback is that those tiles need to be generated by the server and more importantly stored. A tile of the entire earth zoomed out will not take a lot of storage, but the higher you zoom, the more tiles you need. If you don’t put a higher limit to the zoom level ,it will take an exponential amount of storage on the server, which is a problem.

Canada pushing unwinnable war harms Ukrainians (rabble.ca)

As recently confirmed by the head of the Ukrainian delegation in Ukraine-Russia peace talks this could have been avoided if the US and UK hadn’t scuttled a deal in the spring of 2022. David Arakhamia, who is now parliamentary leader of Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s Servant of the People party, said Russia was prepared to end the war...
