I believe the tracker doesn’t emit the same signal when the phone the AirTag is paired with are communicating directly. So as long as the owner of the airtag is in the vicinity it will not be considered as following/stalking you.

@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

As if it’s not already gathering all bluetooth devices in range already.

You are severely limited with what you can do with the AirTags if you don’t have an iPhone. You need to pair it to an Apple account, and you don’t have access to Apple’s Find My Device network on Android.

Apple’s and Google’s network aren’t inter-operable and do not communicate with eachothers and will not transmit location data across both.

The only thing the Android device will be able to do with it is report the presence of an AirTags without a connection to its paired iOS device in the vicinity as an anti-stalking feature, make it ring to facilitate its discovery and the ability to scan it’s builtin NFC tag to read the owner info.

For now I subscribe to multiple communities, but I really hope the Lemmy devs figure out a way to let each user create a community group.

The way I envision it is that you can create a group where you can combine communities on your end, and you can then cross-post to these communities when you post to that community group.

On the other hand, there would need to be a way to ensure that cross-posts aren’t generating a ton of duplicates to those subscribed to multiple communities, and I’m not sure how the comments on these cross-posts should be dealt with. Maybe the comments should be kept separate per cross-post, or maybe if you have these communities in a group there could be a way to display the comments from there multiple posts together, to ensure all those crossposts have a change to get some interaction on other instances?

Then there’s also the possibility of spammers abusing the system.

There is still place for improvement.

Some restrictions could be added to avoid dumb mistakes like this, like how you cannot add NSFW and non-NSFW communities in the same group

How hard would it be to implement an emoji reaction system (like Telegram) instead of Up or Downvotes?

I recently read a funny comment and wanted to give it the 😂 reaction like I would on a Telegram post, but upvoted instead. Reddit had upvoting downvoting but wondering if Lemmy, being an open source innovative software, should evolve past the upvote downvote and allow for a wide range of emoji reactions to a post.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Clown and poop emojis everywhere.

Honestly, upvotes and downvotes are IMO good enough.

Yeah, the ergonomics of that thing aren’t great.

Reddit is rotten to the core, the CEO is just to puppet in front of it all.

Replace the CEO and nothing will change as long as there are investors looking to make a profit.

Doesn’t hurt, at least it allows

  • the mods from the community to ban the user from posting
  • the instance admins from the user that is sending spam to ban the account entirely

Depending on the website, there might be some tools specifically tailored for that website you could use that will extract the content you’re looking for, but they’re likely going to be command-line based, and you’ll likely have to extract your cookies so that the tools can work as if you were logged in your account from outside your browser.

Is it too much to ask which website?

Depends what you do on them. If it’s only to be reachable, then the only thing the carrier and 3-letters agencies can gather is your approximate position, what you say on the phone line and what you sent in text messages. Don’t say anything personal and sensitive, and they won’t have much to gather in the first place.

They don’t get the troves of info they can sucks from all the mobile apps, etc, which is way more than they could with dumb phones.

Smartphones with "pure" Android

Hello! My smartphone is dying, so I’ll soon have to buy a new one. I’d like my new phone to have pure Android, without all the apps that manufactures install. Ideally I’d like to remove the majority of Google services too, but there are some that I can’t replace yet, so I’m still dependent on, like google maps. What...

Issue with nsfw material in feed

So this post from lemmynsfw.com just popped up in my feed. It is not tagged as nsfw although it obviously is. I have tried attaching a screenshot but Jerboa throws an error. I have nsfw material turned off in my account settings, so this wouldn’t happen if the post would be tagged properly. I’m using Jerboa. I could just ban...

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Technically I believe every communities created with the NSFW tag will auto-apply the NSFW tags on all posts. Maybe the user who posted submitted to a community that isn’t tagged as such (some of them like /c/[email protected]) because the content is not always NSFW.

The only thing we can realistically do is to report these posts. It send a report to your instance admins, who can hide the post from being viewed at the instance you’re at. It will also send a report to the mods of community at lemmynsfw.com in which the post was submitted who can take action on the post itself.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It does in 99% of the communities. Some are not exclusively NSFW content, so it makes sense to make the tag optional in those. It opens the door for novice users to make a mistake though.
