Same here, cut contacts with 80% of my digital entourage, they don’t value speaking to me enough to switch to another app

Just moved to Linux: a follow up

I recently made a post discussing my move to Linux on Fedora, and it’s been going great. But today I think I have now become truly part of this community. I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....

Timeshift for backups is a godsend in these situations

I would advise using Obtanium to get the apps directly from their source, ex: gitlab, instead of using F-Droid.

Use it for caching more stuff to make your system even faster, virtualization and most importantly, browsers

No problems with flatpak on artix (basicallly arch)

Is linux good for someone tech illererate.

Now i’ve been considering moving to linux. I don’t have much of a history using a computer and find it tougher to use than my phone. But I also really appreciate the foss movement. I’ve currently got an old laptop running windows 11 I think and it would prolly speed up with linux too. But I’m afraid I’d fuck smth up...

Linux Mint is very easy with GUI’s for everything you need and the UI is pretty similar out of the box. Try it out on a live usb before making the switch.

Did not get to doing that yet, here’s a tutorial if you want to.

Yeah It would

What distro would you recommend for a 32-bit old Acer One laptop? (kbin.social)

It's an old model (Acer One D257) Processor is Intel Atom. Memory is 1GB DDR3 with 320 GB of HDD. I currently Have MX 21 running on it, but I need to reinstall because I forgot the root password. Since I'm reinstalling the OS, I thought I'd ask here for recommendations for an OS that makes the most of this oldie.

Firefox with arkenfox user.js

Use playit.gg instead of forwarding the port. You don’t need an account and it will provide you with a link that you can provide to your friends. Its very easy to set-up, just follow the following commands in the terminal and follow the on screen instructions.

I also recommend the Fabulously Optimized modpack for the best performance possible while staying vanilla. Here is how to install it.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I dont’t think that you can forward ports other than 80 with free cloudflare tunnels.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

You can always try :)

Thx, I love them, coming from an iPhone 8 Plus.

Why do people hate on mobile games, call them "not real games" and mock them, when some mobile-exclusive games are the best games I've played?

The Infinity Blade or Minigore series, for example, or anything made by Illusion Labs. These games are genius and most consoles don’t even have a touch screen or utilise it well like some smartphone games do....

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Because the big majority of mobile games are filled with ads, pay to win, made for ipad kids, have a very simple concept and are generally just copy pastes of the thousands of shitty games on the store.

OP is a buffoon. Check his post history, he just wants clout and doesn’t know what he is talking about.

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. I literally only use windows so I can play Fortnite with friends. PSA: you can have both Linux and Windows, or you can use a vm in...

Artix (Arch with other init systems like OpenRC) on main PC and Debian on homeserver.

100% vanilla distribution challenge

what does this consist of? Well, it’s easy, whenever you install a new distribution of Linux, don’t customise anything, nothing please!! Out of the box experience, you may install software but that’s all. And if you are already using a customised distro, then delete the .config file and reboot, but please be careful and...

I swear, OP does not know what he is talking about and is posting for clout, just look at his post history.

Casio G-Shock owner here. I prefer a watch to always know the time without checking my phone but I would never use IOT devices, including a smart watch for privacy & security reasons.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

What a coincidence! I got the same one, M5610U-1ER here. Truly the best one for my use case. I spent a couple of months researching for a good watch and settled on this. Solar, time syncing, very good modding and aftermarket community, just perfect. A watch for life.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Happy to see another G-Shock owner! I myself settled down on a 5610U. Its all I need + the very good aftermarket/modding community.

Ps: Just realised that you’re the guy from this comment, the world is small haha.

should my next browser installed be Microsoft Edge?? (lemmy.world)

I have installed the big 2 browsers on my Ubuntu!! I love them!! I use Google Chrome more of course n.n but I was wondering if I should get Edge now, I like the cute design + AI integration, but I don’t think it’s necessary because I already have Chromium, which is just the baseline for Edge, but still it could be a nice...

I overclocked my RX580 recently. Here is how to do it in CoreCTRL.

gitlab.com/corectrl/corectrl/-/wikis/Setup

Currently, to have full control of your AMD GPU while using the amdgpu driver, you need to append the boot parameter amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff to your bootloader configuration and reboot. NOTE: The following instructions are for guidance only. Check your distribution documentation on how to add boot parameters.

GRUB bootloader Edit the file /etc/default/grub as root and append amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT:

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=“… amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff”

NOTE: In the above example, … represent other existing parameters. Do not add … to your GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT. You should only add amdgpu.ppfeaturemask=0xffffffff. Then regenerate the bootloader configuration file with the command:

sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

Reboot your system. You should have more controls when you select Advanced as Performance mode where you can tweak the mhz and voltage easily.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

In CoreCTRL, you tweak the voltage for each state. -30 in your case would reduce the voltage by 30 mv in every state which is not ideal. Just deduct 30 mv in each state in CoreCTRL.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Same here. Artix all the way. I use OpenRC.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Artix with OpenRC, Arch with alternative init systems.

Anyone else feels like they want to destroy their old sim and never give their contact to anyone ever again?

If signal gets the new username feature, this just might be what i do, so fricking tired of people just blindly giving random apps and websites their contact permissions and they get my contact as well, and there’s nothing i can do about it

My internal fight over what device to buy

Hello there! This is my problem: I’m going to buy a new smartphone, and I’d really like to degoogle myself as much as possible. The idea would be to buy a device compatible with LineageOS, but… Supported devices are usually older models, and often there are newer devices with better specs for the same price, that does not...

grapheneos.org has a lot of info. Make sure to buy a phone with an unlocked bootloader. All carriers lock it so buy it used and make sure that its unlocked or buy it directly from Google. You can install all google apps through Aurora store, a Play Store fronrend. You can also install sandboxed Google Play services so your Play Store apps can run and have functionning notifications, as they usualy rely on Play services. Yes you can sideload apps like normal android. Its AOSP without the google stuff. Similar to you

  • Kali in VM because hacker
  • Flush Windows and install mint cuz I think I’m a Linux pro
  • Go back to Windows a few months later because did not know that wine existed
  • Go back to Mint after a couple of months cuz Windows was worse.
  • Stay with mint for a year and break some nvidia packages
  • Got annoyed with the lack of customisibility of Mint and got an AMD GPU so jumped to Artix (systemd-less Arch)
  • Still daily drive Artix.
  • Installed Debian on new home server

Did you use avbroot?

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

How do you root it then?

jvrava9, (edited )
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

My post specifically talks about rooting the Pixel 8 Pro, I do not see why you would promote the use of gOS.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

I absolutley agree, even tho I use gOS now.

jvrava9,

Intereating, I’ll defenetly look into that. Thx for the info.

jvrava9,
@jvrava9@lemmy.dbzer0.com avatar

Yep I’m on gOS, should’ve mentionned that. Do we know when v27 will be released? I’m still pretty new to all of this, coming from a jailbroken iPhone. Would you suggest building Magisk from here or trying the dev build in the meantime? Thanks a lot!
