SPIT!

After I gave her a treat, SPIT and she spits it on the floor waiting for me to tell her she can now eat it

FOSS Android calculator app that supports rich text

Hello! I’m looking for a FOSS replacement for the calculator app that I currently use, N-CALC, that is now not even released in the play store (play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.duy.cal…) and only available from sites like APKFree. I tried all the various calculator apps on F-droid but none of them supported “rich...

tubbadu,

It is way more readable (at least for me) so it’s easier, especially with longer formulas, to check if there are errors or not. Woth plain text calculators like Calculator++ I do a lot of mistakes confusing all those brackets

tubbadu,

This one is very simple but very interesting! It’s sad that the last commit was in 2020 but I think I’ll use it anyway if I don’t find a better alternative, thanks for pointing it out!

tubbadu,

Math isn’t, but bugs and new features cannot be fixed/added

How to enable persistent notifications on Android 14?

Hello! Just switched from my old device with android 10 to my new pixel with Android 14 (GrapheneOS), and I’m missing a lot the persistent notification feature of android 10: I used Tasks.org from fdroid to get reminders in my notifications tray, and until I manually clicked “completed” there was no way to remove them, not...

tubbadu,

Thanks for the answer! This is what I’m currently doing, but due to lack of space it is placed on the “secondary screen” (swipe left on home screen), so I have to manually go there to check if there is any task. In the notification instead they are always there, regarding on which screen or app I’m on

tubbadu,

I don’t know I’m still crying 😭

Any FOSS Framework currently maintained to develop interactive fictions?

[For those who don’t know: an Interactive Fiction, or IF for short, is a console game where the user has to write down a command like “take hammer”, “open door with the key”, “go north” etc, and the game will reply with what’s happening, for example “you took the hammer and put it in your backpack”]...

tubbadu,

Seems very interesting, but I’m not understanding if there is a way to “compile” the game or if the interpreter is needed to play it

tubbadu,

Inform* is not foss afaik, right? I tried Quest and it is way too graphical, I’d prefer a more code-oriented one. Definitely will look into TADS, seems very interesting!

tubbadu,

Thanks!

tubbadu,

How can I use it in this case?

tubbadu,

Probably not or it would be on yt I guess… If I can’t find anything I’ll try to do as you suggest, thanks!

tubbadu,

I’m literally not able to play a single instrument so I can try to contact the band, probably without answer but never say never, thanks!

tubbadu,

wow thanks for doing it for me! the result is actually pretty good, I’d like to learn how to do this

thank you very much!!!

tubbadu,

I tried using vocalremover.org and the result is… perfect. I’m astonished. thank you very much!

tubbadu,

I tried using vocalremover.org, but this also seems very powerful, thanks for the tip!

[Solved] BSOD on Windows VM after update

Hello everyone! I hope to be posting in the correct place, if not please tell me and I’ll delete this. I have a W11 VM on my EndeavourOS KDE laptop that I use because of some software I need for university that does not run under wine (LabVIEW and Keil uVision). The VM is running on virt-manager (QEMU KVM) using the virtio...

tubbadu,

Thanks for the answer! There is no error code, the first thing showing up is a blue screen that makes me choose the keyboard layout, and after it the various recovery options (cmd, uninstall updates, etc)

tubbadu,

I don’t have any, I didn’t think it was necessary to just run 2 softwares… But I was wrong :(

And also maybe some automatic ones on a schedule (daily/weekly)

Don’t Windows do it automatically? I though it was more stable than this :/

Or try booting the VM with a live boot environment of your favorite distro, similar to how you would do recovery from a dead physical machine.

I’ll try this as soon as I can, thanks for the help! I’ll post here any news

tubbadu,

Thanks for the answer! The first command says chdks.exe is not recognized as an internal oe external command, and the second commands says Error: 87 cleanup-image option is unknown

tubbadu,

This is a good life lesson I think XD i’m downloading a live iso as I don’t have one and i’ll boot the vm from there as soon as the download finishes
Thanks for the answer!

tubbadu,

It says “cannot open volume for direct access” :(

Running the second command without cleanup-image flag says the same thing for restorehealth, and running without it too well, has no options after /online so fails

Thank you very much for your time!

tubbadu,

Yeah it’s terrible, not a single error code to search for on the web…

tubbadu,

XD I think I learned the lesson too

tubbadu,

I achieved to retrieve my files!!! thank you very very very much! Now I can try more “dangerous” way to resurrect it because my data are now safe in my USB drive

tubbadu,

I… I… I don’t know what happened, I was doing random stuff in the bios and… It booted up… Finished its upgrades… And now it’s working… I have no idea what happened…

tubbadu,

You know what else sucks? ^\s

tubbadu,

Some sea snail fossils probably

tubbadu,

OpenBoard’s developing is being carried on by one of the original developers: github.com/Helium314/openboard

It allows to include an external swipe-type library (proprietary, from Gboard) in case you need it, and it works really well. The only problem is that currently it’s only available on github, so you can only update manually or with obtainium

tubbadu,

What do you mean?

tubbadu,

I don’t know who this guy is, and at this point I’m too afraid to ask

tubbadu,

We’re on lemmy, we don’t do that here

BruceTwarzen, to asklemmy

Is there a Spotify alternative that has no ads?

I pay for Spotify for 7 years or so now and i'm so sick of all the ads. After every update there seems to be an: oops, sorry, you have ads now. Podcasts are filled with ads. I was just listening to a podcast where they shoved in 3 ads mid-sentence. How long until musicians put ads in their songs. I'm just so sick of it.

tubbadu,

FOSS reminder app recommendations with persistent notification

Hello! I’m currently very very dependent on TickTick (not tiktok) because of a single simple feature: persistent notification alerts. I can set events and tasks as in many other similar apps, but once the reminder is triggered, a persistent notification is showed, until I manually say “mark as completed” or “remind me...

tubbadu,

This looks very interesting, thanks! I’m trying to connect it to davx5 and I’m failing, but if I’ll achieve to connect it it will be the perfect replacement

Thank you!

Telegram client that removes the Premium "features" shit?

Hello there! I’m currently using telegram FOSS from fdroid, and don’t have telegram premium. It’s okay to have limitations on animated emoji and such, that are limitations imposed by the server, but I really cannot tolerate limitations imposed by the client. I want to rearrange folders. It won’t make me do it without...

tubbadu,

Sometimes on channels arrives a message about usually crypto stuff completely unrelated to the channel, with an X button, and if you click it it says “pass to premium to remove”

What do you mean by plan? I only want to rearrange the order of the folders, but the “all chats” folder cannot be moved (settings > folders > if you have other folders try moving one as the first one and see what happens)

My internal fight over what device to buy

Hello there! This is my problem: I’m going to buy a new smartphone, and I’d really like to degoogle myself as much as possible. The idea would be to buy a device compatible with LineageOS, but… Supported devices are usually older models, and often there are newer devices with better specs for the same price, that does not...

tubbadu,

I’ve never heard of GSIs and it seems really interesting! I’ve found nothing about it on the LOS website, is it something “unofficial”?

tubbadu,

Thanks for the answer!

tubbadu,

Does it support tags? I have a huge collection of tagged images on my SSD (tagged with digiKam), will I be able to search for tags (and add/remove tags) using the mobile app?

tubbadu,

Nice! I’ll definitely try it out then!

tubbadu,

I’d be surrounded by idiots either way
