mfat,

Thinkpad 11e

mfat,

I recentry tried an M2 Air and was just amazed how lightweight it was.

mfat,

Why should I use this over Android Messages? I use the messages web version on my laptop.

You mean Cockpit?

mfat,

It is, and i guess it’s now based on Denian.

mfat,

Thanks. I’ve already added an ssd drive and upgraded tge ram from 3 to 4gb. Another comment mentioned Icewm so I’m definitely giving it a try.

mfat,

Can I run regular browsers on Puppy? Or have to use their own apps only?

mfat,

Raspberry Pi Desktop does have an x86 version.

mfat,

Wow they even offer the Trinity DE :) thanks

mfat,

I always have a sweet spot for KDE 3.5. I remember how responsive and tast it was on my Pentium PC some 15 years ago.

mfat,

Google’s Rubik and IBM Plex Sans are my favorites.

mfat,

Wasn’t this fixed finally a while ago? I swear i read somewhere it was.

Is there any FOSS full speech recognition user friendly software yet?

Today somebody in a group I’m in which has some accessibility issues was yet again complaining that their Dragon Speaking software was not playing nice with Firefox, which led me to see if there was an alternative, and surprisingly i found none workable at the plain user level beyond Dragon, and upgrading for that person might...

mfat,

Beatbump looks amazing thanks for sharing!

mfat,

I have many apps that still display tray icons and offer useful functions in the right-click menu.

mfat,

The dock is hidden by default, only visible in the overview mode.

mfat,

My problem is that I feel gnome is geared toward a certain group of people users who use a limited set of apps and want to focus on development work.

mfat,

The thought of not being able to tell how many apps are running at a glance is unsettling for me.

mfat,

Thanks, yeah I’ve heard good things about Cosmic. I’ll give it a try when it’s available on Fedora.

mfat,

Speaking of apps, I’ve found TV-Lite to be a good iptv player. There are tons of free channels to watch too.

I regularly use Shotcut for video editing.

Video Downloader has also served me well for downloading from YouTube.

Thorium and Mercury for web browsing.

mfat,

Yes all gestures work without any issues. At least in my experience…

As a genera rule avoid Nvidia. Also google the fingerprint sensor and wifi model before buying. General advice like “Thinkpads are fully linux compatible” is rubbish. Take your time to Google all idiosyncrasies of your desired model.

mfat,

Focus on what you’re going to use the laptop for and choose your hardware accordinly. Linux will work great as long as your hardware is not unsupported. So don’t worry about that at all.

mfat,

I’m a fan of anything that would make it easier for developers to bring their apps to linux.

mfat,

Please update the post if you found solution to this. Also check this out.

mfat,

Yeah this is pretty much the exact same thing. I didn’t know about this. Thanks.

mfat,

Many thanks for the detailed answer.

mfat,

Have you tried Spiral too?

mfat,

Can you send a screenshot please? I’m curious how the fonts look.

Your favorite web UI for your linux server?

Do you use any web ui’s for your Linux server? I’m comfortable managing my server using the command line, but I also want a graphical interface that shows an overview of what is running on the server, the way the resources are being used what containers are running and so on. Also file download uploads would be great to...

mfat,

I tried it once the UI is very complicated.

mfat,
mfat,

I mainly need this when i don’t have access to my own laptop and ssh keys.

[Solved with Gluetun] Tailscale ExitNode with VPN

I would really really really like to have one device on my tailnet as the exitnode for all other devices on the tailnet. However, most VPNs make this really difficult. Is there any way to do this? I’ve read it’s possible with split-tunnelling, but ProtonVPN (which I use) doesn’t support that. I just installed Alpine Linux...

mfat,

Maybe this can be achieved by doing this: 1.Connect to ProtonVPN on your exit node machine 2.Create a vm inside that machine 3.Install Tailscale on the vm 4.Use it as an exit node

mfat,

Use vit-manager and install a minimal ubuntu vm.

mfat,

I set those using the Sustem Settings (KDE) and Tweaks (GNOME). To me all fonts look a bit different between Gnome and KDE.

mfat,

I use X11 on both DEs with an Apple Cinema Display 27".
