Why other game devs don’t get that much recognition or screen time?

Probably because Geoff Keighle and Hideo Kojima are great friends. Game Awards announced 30 seconds limit for speeches, but those only apply to everyone else, not friends.

Following Libera Chat earlier post it’s not surprising. Matrix Foundation, been paying Element to handle all the infrastructure of even their main matrix.org instance. They have no team of their own.

In theory, for profit Element (aka New Vector) and open governance Matrix Foundation should have different motivations. But since CEO and COO of Element are part of the Matrix Foundation and how all Matrix development is mainly done by Element it raises a lot of questions. Not to mention Element having ties and taking money from law enforcement agencies.

And just recently Foundation transferred two of the Matrix servers to Element which will require CLA to contribute.

I don’t disagree that it is not a lost cause, the protocol is open, it’s just everything surrounding it is iffy. The Foundation finally got a Managing Director, we will see what that brings.

Personal ties are to some London based law enforcement agencies, I don’t recall specifically which ones anymore. As far as money, it’s whoever wants it. That part is not concerning on its own as they’re selling the service, not access, but the more worrying details you combine, the less trustworthy everything seems.

There are, but Synapse is by far the most popular and if the transfer kills the momentum of outside development due to CLA, it will doom other implementations too.

The samples in Brazil, Chile, China, Colombia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Peru, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, Turkey, and the UAE are more urban, more educated, and/or more affluent than the general population. The survey results for these markets should be viewed as reflecting the views of the more “connected” segment of their population.

It’s pointless survey.

Yes, I check the data makeup of every survey I view. The sample data that is not using the same criteria for every participant skews the results. If I ask 10 politicians if they think they are doing a good job I get one set of results, but if I ask 10 McDonald employees if their elected politicians are doing great job, results will be different. If you can see the difference there, then the problem is you, not me.

That’s a factor sure, but someone living in rural country and urban city will have different happiness index based on their living conditions and satisfaction drivers. So comparing X with Y = flawed results.

Tell me you didn’t read the report without saying you didn’t read the report. Satisfaction drivers are the metrics for the happiness in that report.

That is the point. When you exclude that group of people only from 15 out of 32 surveyed countries, you skew the results for the whole survey. You can’t draw parallel conclusions from different samples.

That is the conclusion you have drawn, but it’s not part of the methodology listed in the survey. They haven’t excluded rural participants from the 17 countries, while explicitly excluding them from 15 countries. If you see no issue with that, enjoy your blinders, but please stop spreading misinformation.

They miss some critical features like tracking series and since they only offer integration with Open Library most of your books will have to be added manually.

Once www.librarything.com fixes their API, it would be nice to see an integration with Openreads.

It’s not, and it’s run by a private for-profit corporation, but once they re-enable their API it doesn’t really matter for the purpose of scraping the data. Open data is open data, and integration is just a hook, not part of the core functionality of the app.

I gave up on using any site for tracking books, they all either have partial functionality or limited database. These days, I just use SQLite database with a custom Python scraper that I turned into a basic website that offers everything I need.

But last time I checked Openreads, it missed 9 out of 10 books. That’s 10% success rate.

Same issue. Both rely purely on Open Library who have very limited database, so you pretty much have to enter all data manually. That’s not an issue if you have 10 or 50 books. But once you reach 1000s it’s not viable.

Definitely should be possible. And in general there are ways to get the data in, it’s just not average user-friendly. Even a simple Calibre export can be imported by a Bookwyrm instance admin, it just requires some data parsing before that. Nobody is really willing to do that on a scale that matters.

Lists are not exported from Goodreads. They only allow exporting My Books section.
