You might still be able to use it if you carefully superglue back the plastic part.

A more permanent fix would be to replace the SATA connector and solder a new one by someone with the proper skillset.

The important parts are still in good shape, don’t throw it away!

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Considering this is the data portion of the SATA connector I’d be worried about data integrity all the time 😬

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

You can also use a remote app like OBS Blade to control it now.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

Which is fine, their server their rule.

mp3,

Which is a good thing when used only when absolutely necessary. However I wish that blocked communities would be easily visible under the /instances page.

Most of these businesses operated at near unsustainable levels with almost negligible interest rates on loans, and now they’re panicking because their business model is shit and they’re trying to recover however they can by enshittifying everything.

higher wages for the servers... by the customers. Fnbs (lemmy.world)

Went to a restaurant in LA today and when I got the check I noticed that it was a bit higher than it should be. Then I noticed this 18% service charge. So… We, as customers, need to help pay for their servers instead of the owners paying their servers a living wage. And on top of that they have suggested tip. I called bs on...

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

That should be considered bait and switch.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

No need to “tip” then, already included.

What's the history behind cam rips of movies and where have they typically came from?

I’ve seen a few throughout my life at friend’s houses as a kid during the age of Limewire. Typically they were pretty good quality even though you’d see the odd person get up from their seat or hardcoded subtitles. Lately I’ve been curious about the history behind them and how they came to be....

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

The image quality is better than what it was, and the sound can be okay if captured directly instead of the theater room’s audio (some theaters offer audio jack for accessibility purposes).

What you want is a Cam with Telesync, at least you don’t get the background noise.

Compensation for the time and cost of commuting back and forth, paid meal, free coffee and snacks, and additional sick days from using public transport and ultimately catching more sicknesses.

And even then, it doesn’t give me back the extra time I can spend with my kids.

That would help, but just that single incentive would be a no for me.

Aside from that, I’ve tried IPTVnator (FOSS, so that’s great) but doesn’t actually display the content.

What do you mean it doesn’t display the content? And IPTVnator added Xtream support about 3 weeks ago with version 0.14.0

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

It’s because some part of the post is being sanitized to reduce the possibility of a security flaw by someone managing to type in something that could be executed by the server or your web browser in an unexpected way.

github.com/LemmyNet/lemmy/blob/main/RELEASES.md#m…

In terms of security, Lemmy now performs HTML sanitization on all messages which are submitted through the API or received via federation. Together with the tightened content-security-policy from 0.18.2, cross-site scripting attacks are now much more difficult.

The & symbol is however incorrectly parsed by the sanitizer, which will eventually be patched by the devs.

Google took its time stepping up, but it’s better late than never

And Google is postponing the launch of their trackers compatible with Google Find My network (Chipolo Point, PebbleBee) because Apple didn’t get around with adding stalking detection for these in time.

In this case if someone needs to step up and get their shit together, it’s Apple.

Searching for a 'library manager' that looks awesome.

As the title says. I have been searching for something like Kodi but more focused on an offline library manager for all the media I have. I can just navigate with the file explorer through my folders but it just looks not that pretty. Is there anything like a library manager to display my videos/music in a similar way of big...

Most of the sports-related communities seem to origin from the Fanaticus instance. Now if I could hide all posts from an instance right from Lemmy (without hiding comments from their users on posts outside of their instance) that would mostly solve the problem.

The idea of having community tags would be nice too, but we’d have to settle down on a taxonomy that isn’t too broad or precise and that has a localized version so that all languages can link to the same taxonomy.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

You can block communities but not instances on the webUI. I do filter the instance on Sync.

I’m at almost 30 sports-related communities blocked on fanaticus.social, which I wish I could do with one instance-level block.

Android 14 Beta 5 (android-developers.googleblog.com)

With the official release of Android 14 only weeks away, today we’re bringing you Beta 5, the last scheduled update in our Android 14 beta program. It’s the last chance to make sure your apps are ready and provide feedback before non-beta users start getting Android 14. To enable you to test your applications on devices...

Any way to listen to music (privately?) (lemmy.ml)

I’m going insane. I cannot for the life of me find a suitable way to listen to music privately. I’m on iOS, and I don’t know whether to just stick to Apple Music or give up on music in general (I tried, TRIED to go local, but all the apps are shitty). Any way to listen to music and not have your data compromised? Should I...

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

You know where those trackers mostly come from? From the linked websites you visited in the posts.

If you change the Settings shortcut: Link handling > Default browser to “open externally” that should give you a more accurate picture of the trackers included in Sync. By default it will load the websites inside the app, which will give an inaccurate picture of the tracking taking place.

Twitter/X anonymous login and no Government censorship

Today I realized that is possible login on twitter with a temp mail through VPN in a complete anonymous way. I think it’s a very good thing. I don’t understand why here a lot of people criticize Elon Musk. I think that now it’s a platform more open to debates, it’s almost free speech. No other popular big tech platform...
