  • The Bread Circus
    • They go through the Star Wars movies from a book lore perspective, point out flaws in the writing and lore-breaking, and offer suggestions on how the sequels could have been handled differently. They did The Last Jedi, and I really enjoyed it. They also have some cool videos on podracing, ships, and guns.
  • Defunctland
    • History of Disney rides, takes the culture of the time into consideration, the video on queues is a must-watch, imo.
  • Draw Like a Sir
    • Really solid drawing tutorials that aren’t very complicated, takes the time to break down high-level concepts into simple exercises. Overall a really fun channel to watch, even if you’re not into drawing.
  • Fredrik Knudson
    • Long, deep-dive videos into internet history/culture. Rare uploads, but a banger every time.
  • James Lee
    • Newgrounds-era animator with amazing compositing techniques and a very unique animation style where he inserts himself into his videos as a very animated caricature of himself.
  • Lemmino
    • Like the History Channel but without the fluff. Cool topics, very nice animations, high production, high-quality content.
  • MattKC
    • Known for a Lego Island decompilation project. Also does retro console repair from time to time — very fun watch.
  • Paper Will
    • Rare uploads. but interesting video essay topics. High quality and a nice watch during lunch.
  • Pecos Hank
    • A storm chaser who is Reed Timmer’s ying to his yang. Very chill, documentary-quality footage featuring himself playing guitar and talking about the beauty and power of nature. You’ve probably seen his footage on the Weather Channel!
  • Technology Connections
    • Great deep dives into random technology, old and new. The video on the popcorn button on microwaves is really good (I think that may be on his second channel?)
kryllic,

Perhaps I’m ignorant, but obesity is largely a personal problem, no? The core issue is consuming more calories than the body is expensing, so how is that anyone else’s’ problem?

kryllic,

Is it a “We hear you and are discussing internally” or a “Yeah, we hear you, so what?” type of vibe?

kryllic,

Beans, Beans, They’re good for your heart, The more you eat, The more you fart, The more you fart, The better you feel, So eat some beans with every meal!

kryllic,

That’s arguably one of the few things that was fine at launch

kryllic,

That’s fair, all choices merge back into three our four endings iirc, so yeah the meaningful choices part does fall flat on its face.

kryllic,

Immortality. If you go to the bottom of the ocean or space without protection your muscles won’t get any more oxygen and you’ll get rigor mortis and basically be stuck forever.

kryllic,

What’s this game like on the Steam Deck? I really want to have it be my go-to travel game when I’m waiting for the train

kryllic,

The Boss from Saints Row IV. Intro was stupid fun, rest of the game was…ehhh

[@GamersNexus] They Changed Everything: Valve Steam Deck OLED vs. LCD Tear-Down (www.youtube.com)

The new Valve Steam Deck OLED didn’t just change the screen: Almost every part of the device has had some sort of revision, from the screws to the power topology of the motherboard. Some of these changes happened silently in the Voyager platform refresh for the Steam Deck, but the majority of large changes are brand new....

kryllic,

The real question is do the fans still smell good when they kick on for the first time? Mine lost its new-factory smell

kryllic,

Google is an ad company first, and as long as that gravy train is flowing they’ll be fine. Their dominance as a search engine is just to maintain their monopoly on internet ads, not give customers a good searching experience, hence why sponsored links are the first thing to appear and count as a view in their analytics

kryllic,

They will eventually, they just won’t be as brazen about it

kryllic,

Yeah, and I found a channel called the Bread Circus a while back as a result. Really great Star Wars lore stuff for those interested: youtube.com/

kryllic,

If you throw away the trash can from your house, you still have to put the garbage somewhere. If a program is outputting errors or logs, it still needs to put them somewhere, so no more /dev/null means no more default trashcan for the system to send its trash, as far as I understand it

kryllic,

NetBoot: “rather than offer you then illusion of free choice, I have taken the liberty of choosing for you”

kryllic,

I managed to bork my first Linux mint install by not paying attention to my permissions I was setting for a usb drive and basically locked myself out of the system and prevented it from booting into the desktop environment. Lesson learned, don’t copy/paste commands from StackOverflow and run them without thinking about what you’re trying to do

kryllic,

Ubuntu I feel is a necessary stepping stone for newbie Linux users, myself included. It’s a starting point that some may never leave, but as the user gets more comfortable I would hope they’d branch out to a different distro that better suits their needs. Sometimes it’s Ubuntu, many realize they should just run Debian with their wm of choice. Regardless of where they land, at least they aren’t using Windows

kryllic,

I’ll eat a sock if they do this. Take2 are some real hoes for microtransactions and have no issue cranking out half-baked content to the masses

kryllic,

A lot of the episodes are on YouTube

In what world does a VPN need access to Camera and Bluetooth? (i.imgur.com)

I am fully aware of what vpn services to use and not. I am not using Express VPN, I am simply doing research for a master thesis, when I came across these results from Express VPN. If you have any ideas or corrections, please let me know why a VPN provider would need to have access to these permissions....

kryllic,

Dilly dilly, Mullvad is great. I prefer it over ProtonVPN just for how lightweight and simple it is

kryllic,

Yall remember that scene in Inception where the old people go to someone’s basement and dream all day with that machine?

kryllic, (edited )

Bingo,I think people forget Valve went out of their way to make their profit margin razor thin, or at a slight loss because they know the benefit of having a device that basically assures a new paying user will be added in their Steam ecosystem. It’s based on Nintendo’s walled garden philosophy after all, just refined really well on PC.

Did racist use the "biological advantage" argument when Black athletes started competing alongside white athletes?

Given that racists and slavers used the “natural physical strength” of black people to justify putting them on hard labor and some medics still think that blacks has higher resistance to pain, I wonder if when black athletes started to join mixed race sport teams, some racist would have used the same “biological...

kryllic,

Wasn’t there a basketball coach that got fired for saying basically this, albeit not as…elegantly?

kryllic,

Well they’re not gonna cut top salaries, can’t have any of that, it’s bad for business!! Imagine being able to only afford one yacht instead of your standard three! Gotta let those lackeys at the bottom of the pyramid go, what’re they even holding up, anyway? The foundation of the company? Surely not.

kryllic,

Because Plex has that feature built-in with little hassle and Jellyfin does not (for now)

kryllic,

It should have its own native app, it does for FireTV and Samsung iirc

What VPN do you use and why?

If you are a pirate VPN is an essential tool. I am trying to ascertain the popularity of various VPNs in piracy community. In this excerise, I will list several Popular VPNs in the comment if you use one of them just upvote that comment and reply the reason. If you don’t find your VPN listed add a comment with just their name....

kryllic,

I did this and found it worked way better in terms of stability. Bonus is that Mullvad has a proper Linux client whereas Proton’s is just a cobbled-together mess that’s not worth using and is no where close to feature parity with the Windows client

kryllic,

Someone didn’t read diary of a wimpy kid

kryllic,

Brush before bed to keep your teeth, brush after breakfast to keep your friends

kryllic,

Any issues with stability or unexpected behavior? I’d like to use this repo but if it bugs out too frequently I’d rather not spend more time debugging than actually using it lol

kryllic,

Every fifth step I take in a sidewalk must have the sidewalk crack be perfectly positioned in the middle of my foot, then five steps later the other foot gets to step on the crack. Feels very satisfying but it does cause my gait to be a bit off at times lol

Immediate vs future happiness

Extension bisect : A vscode tool to find bad/buggy extensions faster. (code.visualstudio.com)

What it does is that when you encounter an issue with your extensions, it disables half of them, and asks you whether that fixed your issue or not. If it did, it repeats the process, disabling only half of that half, and asks you again - and so on and so forth until you home in on one troublesome extension.

kryllic,

But what if something is wrong with it? 🤔

kryllic,

10 minutes ago this was unthinkable lol, I’m shocked at reading this!!

kryllic,

What’s cyberpunk like in heavy gunfire, performance-wise? Do you have any performance tweaks enabled?

kryllic,

How about lending your old pal kryllic a couple of bucks?

kryllic,

So cool to see Godot headlining with the other big dogs

Shoutout to Wizarr Devs for being open to create a lemmy community.

I was on their discord and saw that they were creating their subreddit and requested if they could also add a lemmy community. Dev was very open to take a look and will be opening a poll to see what instance they will create their community. For those who don’t know what Wizarr is, they are part of the arr family and help in...

kryllic,

Oh wow, how have I not heard of this? This was a major hurdle for me with Jellyfin, I’ll definitely check this out

kryllic,

As long as you’re not running Plex lol

Will Lemmy soon drive Innovation in the Fediverse?

Currently lemmy is like the speedboat next to the heavy steam boat of Mastodon etc. While lemmy is still dynamic and flexible and can introduce new features easily without scaring off its established user base, mastodon can not do such experiments so easily. Now, if lemmy gains more momentum in the fediverse and establishes...
