I was at a hotel once and went to the bathroom while heating up some food. The microwave finished and beeped like 10 times then beeped every 15 seconds until I opened the door. I don’t really understand what problem that’s meant to fix, it’s not like the microwave keeps microwaving after it beeps and shuts off, nothing’s going to catch on fire

My drier at home does this too, although every 10 minutes as opposed to seconds, and I don’t understand that either. Washing machine I could understand since if you forget about it for too long it might go mildew-y, but once my drier is done, it’s done, and won’t turn back on until Its turned back on. A beep every 10 mins might be nice as an optional toggle or something for forgetful people, but it’s just plain annoying

Baku,

It made me laugh when I saw it pop up in my news feed

Baku,

Yeah it’s honestly not really an article, more like a summarised and paraphrased version of the Reddit post it came from. But I thought the headline was pretty funny

Baku,

Australia is not on the list

Forgotten about again 🥲

Baku,

There’s certainly some of that here, although much less than Reddit and various other popular places on the internet. Something I’ve noticed about the disagreements here though, is that they don’t instantly devolve into abuse and name calling, and feels almost… Professional? In a way. It feels like the way people disagree here is less like how things genuinely are on the internet, and more like a disagreement in a workplace. Things stay civil and respectful, nobody’s abusing anyone else.

I’ve also noticed that different opinions can actually coexist here, like you’ll have a post with dozens of comments and 1 of those comments states an opinion, and then somebody with just as many upvotes makes an entirely separate comment with the opposite opinion. You never see that on Reddit, where any comment with an opinion different to whatever the main ones on that thread are will be downvoted into oblivion. Hell, it’s rare to even see a 2 posts in the same subreddit with differing opinions where one hasn’t been downvoted

Baku,

Yeah, my first account on Lemmy was actually on Beehive, but I was confused by their sign up process (there wasn’t a page update telling me I had to verify my email, it just happened in the background and didn’t appear to do anything when I clicked sign up). I sorted it out when I checked my email an hour later, but that killed the vibe for me. So then I made this account, but jerboa didn’t support Aussie zone at the time so I made a shitjustworks account and used that for a while until I started becoming more active in the Aussie zone communities and tried to jump ship just for the ease

But yeah, I saw quite a few people who were very confused about the whole instances thing and a few others that have jumped ship a few times because of it. And as I mainly browse local top day, then all top day once that runs out of content, and my instance federates with all the instances I want to interact with, I don’t see a reason to use either of those other accounts I created

Baku,

It’s like those mirror covered buildings that reflect their surroundings, giving the impression of unbroken landscape

And it can actually work well! Until they forget they’re meant to clean them

Those photos don’t convey how genuinely hideous it is in person. It’s horrid

Baku,

[yells in foreign language]

Baku,

It’s cringe as shit, but tbf most commercials are

Baku,

Since there’s no workshop for EG and it’s nigh impossible to get things from Steam’s workshop unless they’ve been uploaded elsewhere, I wouldn’t even really consider Epic honestly

Baku,

The grocery stores in my country make you scan a barcode on the bag every time. “Luckily” they pay their staff minimum wage and treat them like crap, so you can usually start bagging your stuff and most of the time nobody cares (not that I’d know from experience or anything)

Baku,

It was a fairly similar story in Australia, although not to that extreme. I believe our mates across the ditch in NZ had a similar thing though

Baku,

One thanks you. One appreciates this.

Mozilla Senior Director of Content explained why Mozilla has taken an interest in the fediverse and Mastodon (techcrunch.com)

"the company looked at the history of social media over the past decade and didn’t like what it saw… existing companies that are only model motivated by profit and just insane user growth, and are willing to tolerate and amplify really toxic content because it looks like engagement… "

Baku,

Funny enough the post right below this one in my subscribed feed was a post from db0 asking about setting up media servers. And both of the top two comments recommend jellyfin, nobody recommended emby

Baku,

I’m a man. Sometimes I just want people to listen. So I guess based on that alone, it can’t be exclusively women

Baku,

So old it’s yellowed

Baku,

Don’t really see many Barbies anymore either tbf

Baku,

And they thought that just ignoring such clear issue was a good approach to take? Wow that’s fucking scummy on both sides

Baku,

Well, surely if they’re playing it 2 weeks before it’s due to launch and it runs like garbage, they’d think “hmm, maybe this won’t be ready in time. I should probably tell people about it” rather than just being greedy and sweeping it under the rug. Also, you can be honest about issues you experience with the people watching your content. If it gets better before it’s released, you just make an update video stating you’ve seen an improvement over time. No need to hide it

What are your thoughts on fiber through the city?

After 16 years of living in my city, they will finally have city-wide fiber internet. I’m pretty stoked because the fastest internet I could possibly have is a WISP at 50gbps down and 10gbps up. Now I will finally have gigabit but it’s through the city, and I’m wondering if they will be more strict on illegal content...

Baku,

Yeah… You kinda bungled the execution

Baku,

To be honest it’s entirely because Plex was what I first discovered and setup, and I liked it enough to pay for a pass

Baku, (edited )

It’s fixed by a restart, but it seems to happen once every few days, and almost always while I’m using Netflix or another video streaming service. Anyone else had this issue?

Baku,

Is it common?

Baku,

I only got it a couple of months ago, so I think I will. Just a little worried since I don’t have another usable device in the meantime

Baku,

Hmm, that was actually the one thing I didn’t test, but yeah, I think I’ll ship it off to be repaired under warranty

Baku, (edited )

Update: it just did it again and I was able to test it. Changing the brightness does nothing, however it does make the screen turn black for about a second after I take my finger off the brightness slider

Baku,

It did it to me when I was on android 13 too. I’ve never used an android beta version so the issue is definitely still present

Baku, (edited )

I have them on vivid adaptive

Baku,

It’s happened to me a few times before today as well

Baku,
Baku,

No, I don’t use the night filter

Baku,

No dice. Not so much as a click when squeezed. Also almost every single time it’s happened I haven’t even been holding it

Baku,

Interesting. Everyone else seems to only be getting it on Netflix, YouTube, or plex. I wonder what the go is

Baku,

Potentially. I’ll have a look into it

Baku,

I contacted them and they told me they’ll replace it under warranty, but it takes up to 2 weeks to get sorted and I don’t really have another functional phone I can use in the meantime

Baku,

I bought it outright through a local store but contacted Google directly since they issued the warranty

Baku,

They meant America and a few of the other undeveloped countries

Baku,

Oh holy shit this makes so much sense… I’m also Australian and I’ve always wondered how a prepaid sim would help drug dealers in TV shows and movies and such because I just never thought that requiring ID to activate any sim card might not be a thing elsewhere

Baku,

Regular P7 here, and yeah, I noticed the camera update too which actually annoyed me a bit at first. I do like how they moved the camera and video buttons from the slidey menu down to dedicated toggles at the bottom though, but I was on a photo spree yesterday and the amount of times I clicked the photo button instead of the shutter button is astounding.

Also I have noticed some apps are a lot slower now. I was reading a long Wikipedia page yesterday and about halfway through it started jittering a lot and would take a few seconds to scroll after I actually scrolled, which isn’t something that was happening in even longer pages than that one before the update

Baku,

I had the exact same thing happen when I got my first glass back too lol. It woke me up one night because it slid off my bedside table and landed on my tablet. I ended up hiding it in my drawer until I went out to buy a case a couple of days later

Baku,

I’ve spent a truly mind blowing amount of time on MissionChief. They don’t give exact stats, but I’d say I’ve played at least 2k hours over the last 4 years
