How would you rate the OLED deck? Did you keep your LCD deck? Have you noticed any of the smaller improvements like a more responsive touch screen? Has the battery life improvement been noticable?
I haven’t used twitch for years, and have only used it for esports streams back when I did use it. I’ve never watched a booby stream.
I just reinstalled the app, logged in for the first time in years, and my top recommended stream is called “2 GIRLS 1 SHOWER” and has a topless girl with a white bar over her boobs. The game category is listed as “art”.

Can’t comment on the 3rd person shooter/3d platformer hybrids, but games like Mario Odyssey are fantastic modern 3d platformers. Meanwhile I’ve recently replayed some 3d platformers from the n64-gamecube eras and found they didn’t hold up as well as I remembered.
Basically the title. Sometimes I turn on the deck and the SD card icon is in the top bar, it shows it’s connected but doesn’t see any games on it and prompts me to format (and also shows it only has 30mb of space). Rebooting and/or removing and reinserting the SD card seems to fix it until the next time. I’m really not...
When the card doesn’t mount properly, how does it show up in desktop mode?
I had a different SD card issue where the deck was automounting my sdcard at a different mount point, which was preventing it from seeing any of the installed games. Ultimately I just changed my mount points/library locations to match how the Deck wanted everything mounted.
Epic already makes anticheat that supports Linux, and other games they own already run on Linux with anticheat.
They’re just holding out on fortnite because… actually I’m not sure why. Probably Sweeney’s personal thoughts on it. If they actually wanted it to run on Linux/deck I have no doubt they could without much trouble.
I have some games where I’ve additionally bound the face buttons to light touches on the trackpad. Joysticks+triggers are usually quiet enough already, so being able to lightly touch the trackpad for quiet inputs makes it pretty quiet.
Obviously, it can’t be a real fast paced game, but it’s a decent compromise for games that are slower paced.
For better or worse, I never quite understood the Steam deck smell. My sense of smell lacks the ability to smell a lot of things, so I’m guessing I’m just unable to pick up on whatever makes it so appealing to people.
Honestly the PS Portal seems extremely expensive for a remote play only device. I feel like the Deck is a much better value proposition with it being able to play games on it’s own and work away from your home network.
To be fair, the deck can be a lot cheaper than 500+. Comparing a $350 64GB LCD deck to a $200 PS Portal really favors the Deck. Neither device supports HDR at that price, but the Deck can do so much more than the Portal.
Personally I was just really disappointed with the PS Portal pricing, feels priced far too high for what it is. I think stream only devices can be decent, but they need to be priced more competitively.
This price hike is for people who signed up for YouTube premium early (before it was combined into YouTube music). These people weren’t promised a low rate for life when they signed up, their price was always going to increase eventually even if the service didn’t merge.
I think the $8 Play Music All Access was advertised as a lifetime price, that it would be what we paid forever. I really hope that’s the case.
I’d suggest deleting proton experimental, it might have gotten corrupted and steam is choking on it for some reason. You should be able to delete it from Steam in game mode, or you can install Protonup-qt from the discover store and delete it that way.
For games there are also appmanifest files in the steam folders that steam uses to identify what’s installed. If uninstalling proton experimental doesn’t help, it may be that there’s a corrupted manifest file (or something similar) for it that needs to be manually deleted. Without doing some digging on my own computer I couldn’t tell you what the file name/location is, and I won’t be able to check my PC until later today or tomorrow.
I have replaced the original 512GB SSD with a 2Tb one and reimaged the drive. Do I need to keep the original drive for warranty purposes in case I need to return the device, or I can re-purpose it or sell it out?
I just slotted my original m.2 into one of the additional slots on my motherboard. It’s not a ton of space (only 256GB), but it’s free and I had the space. And this way I still have it if I need it.
Yeah I know what you mean. They try really hard to emulate the pace and speeches/etc of other award shows, but those are the same things that make those award shows so boring and overly-long.
Yeah, I tried entering 3 different game awards contests: OLED Steam Deck, Legion Go, and Super Mario world resort tickets.
The Legion Go and Super Mario World contests were glitchy but worked fine, but I could never get the steam deck one to work properly. Probably means they had a lot more people trying to enter the steam deck one than the two.
You may also want to try changing the deck’s external display settings. Try disabling features like HDR/VRR if they’re turned on, and try lowering the output resolution. My TV frequently has glitches if my deck is outputting HDR or 4k video, but it’s a TV problem and not a deck problem.
Sorry about the late reply, wanted to verify how to do it before telling you.
You can change resolution by right clicking on the desktop and selecting configure display settings. There will be a drop down for resolution, try picking a lower resolution with the same aspect ratio. I believe VRR should have an option on this same screen, but I can’t confirm that.
HDR doesn’t work in desktop mode, so it shouldn’t be a concern here.
Hi there, I know this has been debated for a long time but just trying to understand if this level of backlight bleeding is normal. To add some context, this picture was taken in a dark room with the deck showing a completely black image. Thanks! steam deck picture in the dark
My LCD deck fortunately doesn’t have any backlight bleed, but I’ve seen many photos of other’s Decks with similar backlight bleed to yours.
I’ve heard of people having success eliminating or reducing their backlight bleed two different ways. Basically part of the cause of the bleed is that parts of the deck aren’t properly aligned/pulled together. To fix this, you can try:
Tightening screws on back of the deck (take care not to strip the screws or overtighten to the point you break the plastic)
Holding both grips of the Deck and “twisting” them in separate directions. Obviously don’t twist it hard enough to break anything.
I don’t have any experience with these fixes, I’ve just heard people say it helped online.
I was exploring the fps and refresh rate slider and I realized that when setting the framerate limiter to 25, the refresh rate was incorrectly set to 50Hz on the OLED version, when the 75 Hz setting would be a more appropriate setting, for the same reason 30 fps is at 90 Hz and not 60 Hz. Anyone else seeing the same behavior? Is...
As Tau said, you can change a setting in the developer settings and it will give you separate fps cap and screen frequency sliders. That way you can set it to 25fps and 75hz, or even compare 50hz vs 75hz and see if there’s any improvement.
I’m playing through Persona 5, but I’ve also gotten on a pinball kick lately. Picked up Demon’s Tilt and Xenotilt during the steam sale, and have also been emulating Metroid Prime Pinball which is the game that first got me into pinball.
I’m interested in any other pinball recommendations if anyone has some.
Thanks for the suggestion, I actually have played that so much in prior years that I got kinda burned out on it. It’s a good pinball game for sure though.

I tried D4 on its free week, and it’s definitely preferable to play Blizzard games through Steam and not have to fool with the Battle.net launcher. Also getting to take advantage of Steam shader caches is great for performance of course.
I’ve been using Fedora for a couple of months now, and have been loving it. Very soon after I jumped into this community (among other Linux communities) and started laughing at all the people saying “KDE rules, GNOME drools,” and “GNOME is better, KDE is for babies.” But then I thought, “Why not give KDE a try? KDE has a lot of nice points, I do really like the customization and I think I prefer a lot of the default KDE apps over their GNOME counterparts.
But there’s just something about GNOME I find really comfortable to use. I feel like on paper I should like KDE more, but I always end up going back to GNOME and being happier with it.
Yeah sorry, kinda forgot. So after trying it out, I could not get the Kinvoca ones to pair with the deck. There’s a chance I’m doing something wrong with the pairing process because I no longer have the original instructions for the Kinvoca controllers and I can’t find instructions online. But when I hold the sync button they appear to enter pairing mode (the player 1-4 lights light up just like the regular Joycons do when in pairing mode), but they never show up on the steam deck in the available to pair section. Doing the same thing with a standard joycon makes it show up available to pair right away.
