Scrollone,

Wow, I just realized that the old R*ddit didn’t have infinite scrolling! Good times.

Scrollone,

Maybe it could be useful in the US, but nobody will ever use RCS in Europe.

Everybody just uses WhatsApp or Telegram. There’s no way people will go back to texts.

Scrollone,

That’s what Telegram has been trying to do for 10 years now. They managed to gather some users, but it’s not as widespread as WhatsApp yet.

There’s no way Google is going to make people switch back to RCS.

Scrollone,

They’re not gatekeepers in Europe because nobody uses iMessage over there. Their predominance in the US market is outside of the new EU laws.

Scrollone,

No, seriously. What is Google Chat? What’s the point? They have Google Messenger

If you had a one-way ticket to Jan 1, 1999 that departs on Jan 1, 2024, and you are allowed to bring whatever fits into a backpack with you, what would you bring to use to take over the world, and how would you use it? (kbin.social)

Assume that the future can change based on your actions, so any historical information that you bring along with you from the intervening 25 years may quickly drift out of the new realities history....

Scrollone,

It’s a really smart way. Very interesting, and I agree. It would probably be the best course of action.

I only wonder how quick the butterfly effect would have effects on your “future” documents.

For example, helping Al Gore win could drastically change the imminent future.

How did Lemmy World become the default instance?

World was already the biggest by far when I first started lurking back in July, and it’s just getting more dominant. Before, there was quite some diversity in the distribution of generic communities, but nowadays the vast majority of posts that reach the top are from over there....

Scrollone,

What’s hexbear? I’m out of the loop

Scrollone,

Insert black frames for 24 hours and you’re good to go!

Scrollone,

In The Valley of Gods… from the developers of Firewatch, too bad they’ve been acquired by Valve and they abandoned the project

Scrollone,

I don’t agree.

For example, in English it’s a common mistake to write “it’s” instead of “its”. Example: “The car is missing its mirror”. I’ve seen countless of times people writing, incorrectly, “the car is missing it’s mirror”.

It’s still a mistake even if native speaker do it, and it’s pretty common.

Scrollone,

I’m Italian and I can’t stand people using “piuttosto che” (which means “rather than”) with the meaning of “or”.

Correct:

Piuttosto che fare un errore, stai zitto.

Rather than making a mistake, keep quiet.

Wrong:

Posso mangiare dell’insalata piuttosto che dei pomodori.

I can eat a salad [“rather than” with the meaning of “or”] tomatoes.

Scrollone,

As in changing sex? Or in general in life?

Scrollone,

Username checks out lol

Scrollone,

And, honestly, I feel like there will never be an alternative to YouTube.

Hosting video costs a lot of money, it’s not something anyone can do

Wanted to share the libredirect Firefox plugin, for abandoning Youtube. (libredirect.github.io)

This is a plugin I found recently and really enjoy. It gives you the opportunity to redirect several webpages to alternatives. For example Youtube to FreeTube or Piped. If I search for youtube in Firefox, FreeTube automatically opens and shows me my feed. I like it, I use it, I can recommend it.

Scrollone,

Take a look at ReVanced

Scrollone,

Is the TV “smart”? You can manually connect ReVanced to the TV by inputting the code shown on the TV’s YouTube app

Scrollone,

Ah yes, of course. If you had an actual Android TV you could install SmartTube which hides ads just like ReVanced. But I don’t think it works on a bare Chromecast

Scrollone,

We need to stop using Chromium-based browser ASAP. Using Safari is still better than Chromium. Using Firefox is even better.

Scrollone,

The EU should investigate this

Scrollone,

She’s like the opposite of Prince

Scrollone,

Not true.

the Prince symbol is not eligible for inclusion in Unicode, which “does not encode personal characters, nor does it encode logos.”

Scrollone,

Me thinking about buying a domain

Me programming things to put on that domain

Scrollone,

Or, even worse, adding wrong comments to the code

Scrollone,

Prime Photos is nice but it doesn’t include videos, and I also wonder how long it will last. Nobody can really give out so much space for free, both Microsoft and Google tried to do it in the past and they reverted it back.

Scrollone,

Honestly, I feel nostalgia for bad games too. I remember when I found out about Big Rigs, the “worst game ever made”. It was useless and full of bugs, but I feel nostalgia anyway when I think about me playing that

Scrollone,

I completely hate the new “+” symbol, the heart was so easy to understand

Scrollone,

Luckily most of my chats are on Telegram :)

(Yes, I know the server is not open-source and blah blah blah, but to be honest most of my contacts are on Telegram, after WhatsApp)

Scrollone,

I think this creates the opposite problem. It will make people think of email as a “chat”.

Scrollone,

I have zero paid games on Epic. Only a huge collection of free games. I’ve never even played many of them.

I wanted to play Untitled Goose Game but it was an Epic exclusive. I waited for it to come out on Steam and then I bought it there :)

Scrollone,

I don’t know about Itch. It always seems full of horrible or pointless games.

Scrollone,

What a mess. And then they wonder why people are afraid of installing updates

Scrollone,

You could also write on your desktop with fire!

Scrollone,

I’d love a sublemmy about Rollercoaster Tycoon

Scrollone,

Good luck finding your banking app there.

Scrollone,

Or maybe someone could create a HDMI decoder that can also record the video

Scrollone,

Being there for any season after 13 😏

Scrollone,

Why would you use a VPN? What’s the advantage, aside from not letting my ISP know what I’m doing?

Scrollone,

Don’t worry, it’s probably going to be killed soon like all good Google products

Scrollone,

killedbygoogle.com

You can see many Google services have been deleted even after 10 years of service :(

Scrollone,

I think Sublime Merge does this with the conflict resolution tool

Scrollone,

I think he means it’s not accessible for users with impaired vision

Scrollone,

I wonder if they put it back :)

Scrollone,

Stupid Google, this was a great camera feature. I use it all the time.

Don’t forget guys, Google My Maps is kept alive by one single Google employee. When he leaves the company, they’ll kill the feature for sure.

It wouldn’t surprise me if there was one single engineer that kept Photo Spheres alive.

Scrollone,

I envy you. My OG Pixel has broken down :(

Scrollone,

Thanks, I hate it.

Fuck Google, just stick to the standards.

They’re doing the same thing Apple does with iMessage and Google complains about

Scrollone,

I also stopped using Reddit forever today, since Relay stopped working.

But I feel like there will never be a way like searching on Google for thing I’m interested in + Lemmy.

The problem is that content is duplicated on many instances, and those instances may even don’t have “Lemmy” in their websites
