Platform Name: Mastodon

  • Accounts: Lots, Main one on oldbytes.space
  • Apps: Tusky
- Uses: Mostly following retrocomputing folk, and running friendly bots.

Platform Name: Lemmy

  • Accounts: This one is my main, a few bot accounts and others just for creating communities
  • Apps: Connect
  • Uses: You all know what this is! I also run a few posting bots

Platform Name: Mbin

  • Accounts: Fedia.io
  • Apps: None, was testing Artemis until it went AWOL
  • Uses: Hosting a few communities still. Was my main Lemmyesque account but Kbin was horribly unreliable. Mbin seems much better but waiting for app support as I like Connect more than the mobile web interface.

Platform Name: Bookwyrm

  • Accounts: wyrms.de
  • Apps: None
  • Uses: Logging and reviewing books I’ve read, keeping track of what is on my pile of books still to read.

Platform Name: Takahē

  • Accounts: Technically one, but it supports multiple profiles
  • Apps: Tusky
  • Uses: Mostly testing, run a few minor accounts there because the multiple profiles feature is ace.

Platform Name: Funkwhale

  • Accounts: One (can’t remember domain offhand)
  • Apps: None
  • Uses: My bots also post here, I’ve never managed to get federation working on it though.

I think that’s it. I did have a PeerTube account but the instance it was on closed down, and I haven’t bothered to make a new one elsewhere.

I don’t think it can because Lemmy only federates article type objects. It does federate with Mastodon, Kbin (except I had a problem following my Bookwyrm account - not sure if that was fixed), etc - basically the microblog supporting ActivityPub services.

Woman across the way chatting to somebody and randomly exposes her breasts. The person she was talking to said, “whoa, that man might see!” (I don’t think this was even a reference to me as I was at a weird angle and don’t think I was visible). She got them out some more and shouted something about getting a good look at them. I’d backed away more by this point.

(I have an even more X rated one, maybe later)

Dave the Diver Is Getting a Free Update Crossover with Dredge | Game Awards 2023 (za.ign.com)

Dave the Diver is getting a free update that will bring the creepy creatures of Dredge onto its menu. It will introduce a new “fog” weather event that will contain the Dredge content, the ability to drive Dave’s boat around like you do in Dredge, a new night map, the ability to catch aberrations, a new weapon, and new...

I use f2fs on my Raspberry Pis, it’s designed for flash storage and appears to have much better performance than ext4 on the same device. I’m not sure whether it’s suitable for SSDs, or just SD cards and USB (these devices are optimised for FAT and f2fs utilises that optimisation). When I tried to use f2fs on a proper laptop it was too early and the distro didn’t support booting from it. I assume that has changed now.

As for the others, I usually stick with ext4 as I’ve never seen a compelling reason not to.

i_am_not_a_robot,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

What I missed mentioning is it does wear-levelling so as its name suggests it is “flash friendly” and stops SD cards wearing out so quickly.

i_am_not_a_robot,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

I bow to your superior knowledge. It definitely doesn’t wear out SD cards as quickly though, but that might be due to other factors not wear levelling.

King Purple Bunny (storage.googleapis.com)

I feel I should post this here. This is King Purple Bunny in his crown (has since been slightly upgraded to one very similar but with more jewels), royal coat, medal, trophy, sceptre and royal carrot (has also been upgraded to a gold one). I’m fairly sure he’s sitting on a throne but you can’t see it....

Clipshare: Copy anywhere, paste anywhere, end to end encrypted (github.com)

Hello everyone, I would like to share my little project I’ve been working on recently. There are many awesome data sharing solutions around. However, I’ve always wanted to be able to just alt+C on one machine and Alt+P on another, clipboard is just such a handy thing! so, I finally decided to get this done. Welcome...

i_am_not_a_robot,
@i_am_not_a_robot@feddit.uk avatar

Those shortcuts invoke clipshare. It looks like there’s also a sync mode so you can use normal copy/paste and it will still sync.

Not mentioned yet, but !artshare is a good place to share art specifically.

I’ve been switching back to Firefox. The latest Raspberry Pi OS finally has Firefox as a supported browser, which was the kick I needed, as I tend to use the Pi as my main computer for general tasks. Yesterday I installed the Android Firefox too. I’m trying to reduce reliance on Google as I don’t like what they are trying to do with Chrome.

Yeah, there’s a bug where things get back to the original magazine but don’t federate back out to other instances until they are interacted with on the original instance. So if you post to a Kbin magazine nobody sees it, until somebody with an account on the original magazine’s instance upvotes it. I raised it on the Kbin issue tracker but nobody seemed to believe me even though I’d proved this was the problem.

The most girly ones I can find. Anything marketed as “for men” with no actual scent described is a big warning sign to avoid. I imagine they are “Engine oil and Swarfega” or “Sawdust and petrol” or other stereotypical alpha male aromas.

SDF is running 0.19 which I think changed the logon system - so Connect will need updating to work with it.

Mine’s a Lemming in bed - it’s the busy pointer from Lemmings Amiga version.

The reason is because Lemmy = Lemmings, and asleep because this was an account which wasn’t intended to be used (I switched to it when my previous instance closed down).

I have a couple of “smart” things I didn’t have at the last change, and it turns out I need to change the timezone on them manually. Argh! Just pick a timezone and stick with it - it’ll make everyone’s life simpler.

No official way, but you can sync the details across with lasim or similar tool.

Maybe we should call it TSNWFKAT, like Prince did for a bit.

Are phone notification LEDs still a thing?

Looking at all the features that older phones uses to have compared to newer ones, I never hear anyone talk about the removal of the notification LED. I personally really liked that feature, being able to see if I got an email, a text or missed a call without turning on my phone was awesome. My Samsung note 8 had this feature,...

Secret Server (Thycotic/Delinea). What a crock of shite that is. I was trying to replace it but people at work who have more influence than I do actually like it. I guess they’ve never used a decent password manager. If we ever actually get to the point where we have to pay for it maybe they’ll change their mind.

This is making me think of the Oniverse games. Onirim is the only one I’ve played, but it’s solitaire, can be played two player (co-op), has a specific deck, you’re trying to make it through to the end and win (there are expansions which can be added which are only a few cards but completely change the game). It has been a very long time since I’ve played it so can’t actually remember how it works, but at one point I was playing it loads. It’s definitely worth looking at as it ticks a lot of the boxes on your list.
