iloverocks,

I’m currently using greetd-tui but I would instantly switch over to sddm if the Wayland session actually works. (I use hyprland as my window manager )

recommendations for lightweight window managers for an old netbook

Hi, I’ve got an old netbook from Samsung that has an old Intel Atom CPU (Intel Atom N455 1.66 GHz). I installed Arch on it and am now thinking of a suitable window manager. I tried Hyprland (kinda expecting it to not work really) whick didn’t start at all. Before I had Debian with Gnome, which technically worked, but...

iloverocks,

Maybe dwm or dwl. I’m a hyprland user but this would be the minimum you should go for

iloverocks,

Mit einer der sinnvollsten und philosophischsten Kommentare die ich hier je gelesen habe

iloverocks,

I’m currently using thorium as an appimage and it is god enough. But to be honest if you want privacy use Firefox or a fork of it.

iloverocks,

The point of useing it is that privacy invasive sites like twitch or skribbl.io would still work. Twitch technicality works fine on stock Firefox unless you don’t save your history, how dare you.

Yea I don’t know a better one yet

iloverocks,

I will try it out after work. Do you know a way to provent automatic openings instead of librewolf? I’m currently using Hyprland and was using the appimage so it doesn’t have any conflicts.

iloverocks,

Exactly default browser. Yes I tryed native and flatpak packages but it would constantly open all other browser instead of librewolf. Even if I defined a other one in the mineapps file

iloverocks,

So one vor two days later anx I can say now that I switch from thorium to ungoogled chromium Wayland. Didn’t have issues with defaults and yea its pretty much the same

iloverocks,

Couldn’t an extention fix this like canvasfinger or privacy badger?

iloverocks,

Yea I can do that. I mean it will take a time but it should be possible. Tbh just don’t wanna use brave. www.deviceinfo.me is a hood site for checking how hard you browser i s hardened

iloverocks,

Yes it work with English content very well. You can rerout all your audio to it via helvum. The big problem is that it only has 3 languages supported English, French and Polish. So it technicality works but not in German unfortunately. But I can say now it partly works on Linux.

iloverocks,

Wenn ich mich nicht täusche kann man Personen/Unternehmen oder ähnliches für sowas Anzeigen mit schweren eingriff auf den Straßenverkehr

iloverocks,

I am also thinking about hosting my own but that outch

iloverocks,

I wouldnt do it so ether

iloverocks, (edited )

Sorry it was a bad screenshot I changed it to a better one

For context the old one was that one

https://feddit.de/pictrs/image/fdfdf3ff-4389-4af0-a8c6-53121bf80632.png

iloverocks,

Sorry I’m not a English is not my native language. I changed it up so it isn’t that bad

iloverocks,

I know what you mean with the radio function I would also love if it would give me something similar to the song i was listening to not the stuff I usually listen to

iloverocks,

yea I also used yt music for over 2 years but it doesn’t work on a de-googled phone. So I switch to spotify because they doesn’t require google play services. One of the things I miss are the in the client integrated music videos on my secondary display

iloverocks,

Wouldn’t install on my grapheneos phone

iloverocks,

It was once already a plus?

iloverocks,

TBH I didnt though about it but yea it’s now gone

iloverocks,

It is some kind of what you said. If you press the + button again you get a menu to add the song to a playlist. Another point that I missed is that the “like” button also adds the song to your favorite list.

iloverocks,

A flaw that I heard many times in this teard is that it looks like a volume button

iloverocks,

So lawnchair is still maintained here’s their github

And if you want to try Olaucher try the clutter free version on fdroid

iloverocks,

Olauncher doesnt support icons

iloverocks,

Greenland is at 12,51% idk why but it is so I guess

iloverocks,

The Motorola one vision has a feature that if you hold down the volume button it skips and gives you a vibration as feedback. I miss it so much on my pixel 6 with grapheneos

YouTube with recommendations based on what you watch and subscriptions

I’ve been using Invidious and NewPipe to watch YouTube for a long time. I don’t use an account with either of these. However, I’m wanting to get recommendations based on what I watch and my subscriptions. LibreTube looked promising but it no longer works. When I try to watch videos it won’t play. YouTube Vanced is dead....

iloverocks,

I would recommend using librewolf thorium for normal task and if the site doesnt work with it i use thorium. Librewolf is slower than thorium but it is for me the better default version of Firefox. Loading yt is really slow with librewolf so I use freetube or invidious to watch content.

iloverocks,

So on their github are appimages, .rpm and .deb available. Idk if you can convert .deb or .rpm files to alpine compatible packages but the appimage should run eververe

iloverocks, (edited )

Yea it would run on it linke any other distro, but you wouldn’t be able to multi task. I reasently installed Debian 32bit on an lenovo ideapead from 2013 with a 1 core 2 threads at 1.2ghz, 2G of ram and a HDD it runs KDE Plasma and will load anything as your pations are strong enough

But you could also run Alpine it will probably use less ram then debian. But I am farmiliar with apt, systemd and gnu software so yea. It is easier for me to give it to my small step sis as a research device with Firefox. I think Debian with KDE plasma uses about 630MB and with xfce around 300-400MB. But I think she is better of with KDE as she primary uses windows in school and it looks more like it

iloverocks, (edited )

You could also try to convert and install the .deb or .rpm packages see here as reverence

Or maybe use distrobox if this doesn’t work. Pretty much anything is better than chrome

iloverocks,

Yea i can understand this

iloverocks,

Ah yes a “special military operation”

iloverocks,

Hang around on Lemmy

Lisinig to music

Practice norsk via Duolingo(I know it isn’t foss)

iloverocks,

It isn’t Foss ether so I see no point to switch

Edit: I found librelingo but unfortunately it doesn’t have Norwegian as a language option librelingo.app/dev/

Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....

iloverocks,

Or you could try to make the raspberry as a streaming box with kodi and freetube

iloverocks,

Just do both leave the appletv for your family and use the raspberry if you start watching

iloverocks,

I don’t know what website you are listening to but if you can always use Firefox or one of its forks librewolf is Firefox made more perfect imao

You could also use the native program ex. Spotify etc.

iloverocks,

You could use freetube

iloverocks,

Ich würde mir wünschen das es auch so in echten leben mit umziehen so einfach gehen würde

iloverocks,

This would be nice

iloverocks,

I just want to use a email provider who I can trust
