Are there any prince movies for kids?

Anyone who knows about kids’ movies knows how popular princess movies are, especially Disney princesses. My child is six and absolutely loves them too. My child also loves princes and kings, but I’m having a hard time finding anything that features a character as easily beloved as Elsa or Moana for example. Even worse, a lot...

hitmyspot,

Shrek. Not prince charming, but Shrek. He marries a princess to become a prince.

Peter Pan, but he’s more figuratively a prince.

I agree with the others, Aladdin and emperor’s new groove are good. Tarzan is king of the jungle in a way, but I haven’t seen the Disney version.

The prince of Egypt.

hitmyspot,

Yes, but the market has grown significantly and the cost of production and distribution is very low, lower than the age of cartridges. The development is the only cost.

Lots of industries have had relative price drops over that time. Mainly electronics. An mp3 player used to be $200 minimum.

hitmyspot,

Algorithm created curation isn’t necessarily bad. It’s just not great when it’s designed to increase engagement, rather than have the most liked, most interesting or best written content rise to the top. When engagement is the most important metric, instead we get lies, click bait and emotive content rising to the top.

hitmyspot,

Oh, I’d noticed that a lot of sites now seemed a lot better. It’s so frustrating when a site has you jump through 4 delays to reject, but accept keeps working fine. As soon as there is a delay now, I’m out of there.

It’ll be nice when we have the settings built into your browser and the sites need to comply so it’s on them not you to verify your preferences.

hitmyspot,

She got her discount. That’s all she really wanted.

hitmyspot,

Phew, I’m glad that bad smell is gone.

hitmyspot,

Keanu reeves and Paul Rudd. Both still the same age, for all time.

hitmyspot,

Why buy then? Wait for a sale and buy then.

Unity issue an apology on Twitter for "confusion and angst" over the runtime fee policy. (nitter.net)

We have heard you. We apologize for the confusion and angst the runtime fee policy we announced on Tuesday caused. We are listening, talking to our team members, community, customers, and partners, and will be making changes to the policy. We will share an update in a couple of days. Thank you for your honest and critical...

hitmyspot,

Also any apology for how it was perceived rather than what was done is worthless.

It’s pretty speak for I’m sorry you are stupid and expendable.

hitmyspot,

And the first children conceived with 3 parents happened relatively recently. Genetics from traditional mum and dad and another set of mitochondrial DNA from another donor.

hitmyspot,

Fodmaps are sugars and sugar alcohols that many people struggle to process well. Lactose intolerance is commonly known but there are lots of others. Wheat fructans are in most gluten containing foods and may be why some people find gluten free diets beneficial even if not coeliac.

hitmyspot,

Often FOSS software has lots of customisation options, some of which can conflict or make it not play nicely. That can be buggy for users. Commercial software is usually simpler but lacks customisation options. Ads, not so. Ich, unless it’s shareware or windows itself. I love foss, but if it was polished and simple, without bugs, there would not be commercial versions.

hitmyspot,

I think you’re right in that there are examples on both sides. I think Foss software is often powerful, but not always as simple to use. It’s designed for functionality. Commercial software is designed to be easiest to use.

As we develop best practices more and more for UX, I think that is fading. I don’t think marketing alone is the issue. Foss users often promote the free software and the price point is good. Take internet explorer. It’s heavily marketed and free (not FOSS) but it’s use is low. Software needs to fulfill a need for the user.

Foss is often filling a small niche. There are only a few large FOSS projects with broad appeal. Even then, it is difficult to not have them fracture and fork, which is better for options but usually poorer for the individual user after they have chosen.

I think for most things that are common, FOSS will end up the default eventually. There are few things that Microsoft can do to word to make it more attractive than librroffice. Excel is still ahead but the gap is closing for most users

hitmyspot,

Instead of trying to eat more, think what do you want to cut down? Meat? Carbs?

Then cut those down and replace with a veg dish instead. Buying a vegetarian cookbook helps. You don’t need to go vegetarian, but you’ll find great recipes for vegetables, instead of as an afterthought.

With pretty much any vegetable, salt, pepper, olive oil and crushed garlic roasted in the oven for 20 minutes is tasty.

For me, I’m trying to eat a more Mediterranean diet, for my health, so that means curing meat and carbs and having lots of veg and herbs and nuts. When I make something, i think to myself, what veg would work with this recipe and add that as an extra.

hitmyspot,

They only need to do so much so the developers don’t go under, but are forced to pay more. It’s a spectrum not a binary.

hitmyspot,

I was going to suggest the same. My understanding is it’s pretty secure but does phone home. The video is not uploaded and phoning home is for remote access and log in. It’s expensive, though unless you’re going to be using the other features.

New Vaccine Can Completely Reverse Autoimmune Diseases Like Multiple Sclerosis, Type 1 Diabetes, and Crohn’s Disease (scitechdaily.com)

Researchers from Pritzker Molecular Engineering, under the guidance of Prof. Jeffrey Hubbell, demonstrated that their compound can eliminate the autoimmune response linked to multiple sclerosis. Researchers at the University of Chicago's Pritzker School of Molecular Engineering (PME) have developed

hitmyspot,

There is a Crohn’s and colitis community on Lemmy, fyi. Not very active yet but I found the support and advice on the subreddit version great.

hitmyspot,

People also need to not support rapists. I mean, give him.support as a friend while clearly letting him know he was wrong. But, to try to ask for leniency minimizes the rapist actions, ignoring the victims.

hitmyspot,

Enough to convince a jury of his peers. Good enough for me.

hitmyspot,

A charitable man. Good man is in question. People are complex. Nobody is all good or all bad. That’s children’s stories. He likely say the good in his friend. But his friend did evil things that hurt multiple people.

With PLEX blocking Hetzner Hosting, I'm thinking of Moving to Jellyfin, but I have some questions.

I use Hetzner as a seedbox and then have PLEX as my media server ran on the same hardware. It’s worked perfectly fine for years. But recently PLEX says they will be blocking Hetzner hosting in the next few weeks. I’ve been considering moving to Jellyfin for a while, but I’m worried they will do the same thing in future....

hitmyspot,

I thought the phone home was to make it easy to have different devices talk to each other. It’s similar for a lot of IoT products. If properly set up, they don’t need to phone home and can find each other with the setting ayku input. However, many users are less technical and automating this through a central service makes it easier. Most companies also use this to scoop up personal info too, unfortunately.

hitmyspot,

They will try to sell based on future payments owed, or projected earnings. Then they will be sued by a big guy for breach of contract, having changed the terms without consent.

Then the money will disappear. Already, the engine will be abandoned. Unity is dead now.

Foss is available and with the programming community now incentivised to use it, it should do well. That might be their play. They knew the end was nigh.

hitmyspot,

I don’t develop games but from reading Godot seems ready for mainstream. I use blender for 3d production in industry. It’s also Foss and powerful.

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signs law restricting release of her travel, security records (apnews.com)

Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders signed a law Thursday restricting release of her travel and security records after the Legislature wrapped up a special session marked by a fight to more broadly scale back the state Freedom of Information Act....

hitmyspot,

You’re at least starting from a position of being evidence based. As opposed to being known for lying for money.

Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis apologize over letters of support for Danny Masterson (abcnews.go.com)

The three women were members of the Church of Scientology, as is Masterson. All three women said they were initially hesitant to speak to law enforcement because they said church teachings discouraged reporting to police. The women eventually left the church....

hitmyspot,

Isn’t she a scientologist too?

hitmyspot,

Irish folklore has lots. Banshees are pretty famous. It’s a ghostly wailing you hear at night. When you hear it someone dies.

One of the nicer stories is children cursed to be swans instead of people due to an evil stepmother. They end up outliving everyone and moving to the land of youth, as swans.

Fairies are evil.

Butterflies are a link to the other world.

Hell is cold, as a hot hell, like Christian hell, was considered to provide a small amount of comfort.

hitmyspot,

Oh, I didn’t know it was in Dante too. I’d always been led to believe it was in contrast to Christian versions of hell but he is kind of the definitive picture of a lot of Christian concepts of hell.

hitmyspot,

More likely it’s misguided.

hitmyspot,

Like he’d know, lol. He just lied. There was no change of mind. He just says what he thinks will work in the moment ans tries to make it sound plausible.

hitmyspot,

I think that’s their point. Instead of weaponising “woke” and fighting culture wars, they could get their grid to code and connect it.

Surprise: Studio Ghibli’s Hayao Miyazaki has failed to retire a fourth time (www.theverge.com)

The Boy and the Heron, Hayao Miyazaki’s first feature film in a decade, probably won’t be his last after all. Studio Ghibli executive Junichi Nishioka told CBC News that not only does he not feel like retiring anymore, he’s actively coming into work to create yet another film.

hitmyspot,

Yes, just have to train an ai LLM on his real life and works.

Then we can have generic uninteresting movies with the same look and feel on the surface, but none of the heart.

In a way it’s progress. Future writier might be able to add heart and use the ai to produce the parts they have less skill in.

hitmyspot,

Yes, downvotea are fine. It’s a form of moderation. Downloading things that add to the conversation but you disagree with is childish

hitmyspot,

If it’s good enough, upvote it!

If it’s rude or dull, wasting your, and everyone’s time, downvote it.

If it’s neither, do nothing.

Voting is for visibility, not agreement.

hitmyspot,

I agreed you don’t need to downvore one to elevate another. However, done commenta merit upvote. Many merit nothing but reading. Some merit downvotes.

At a guess, I’d say one downvotes for every 50 upvotes is my stat, but the downvote button has a purpose.

hitmyspot,

No, the gays cause hurricanes. Do you even science?

hitmyspot,

It would suck. But also, you would be a part of history forever.

Some people go overseas and risk their lives in the military and lose family time as well without having as much of an impact on the world. Here, the potential to have a positive impact on society is also profound. To show that all people are equal under the law.

So, yes, it would suck. But it’s still worth it as a society to require people to do this and as a juror it’s better than the equivalent trial that nobody hears about for commercial fraud that takes the same amount of time.

hitmyspot,

Forgetting it accidentally or not having any food does not make you a bad person. Purposely withholding food from someone in your care without the means to get their own certainly is abusive.

I agree, she shouldn’t have her kids taken away for making them skip one meal. It’s bad, but not horrific Tied up and injured on the other hand…

hitmyspot,

Is it in the running for most useful word, or have we just run out of words?

hitmyspot,

Let’s you know which disease you have so you can more accurately know how to protect others. If you’ve a cold, stay home…if you’ve the flu, stay in bed and isolated. If you have covidy stay isolated and get meals delivered to bedroom.with mask and use separate bathroom etc.

A test doesn’t fix covid but if we don’t test, you have to assume every respiratory infection is covid and that’s not ideal for those with kids that get sick on average 14 times a year.

hitmyspot,

No, I test to know how infective I am and what I’m infected with to limit risk to others.

hitmyspot,

Haven’t most abandoned him and bad mouthed him. It will be new incompetents and deplorables. Some will be the same, but they are the background people.

I wonder if seeing the problems some allies now have seeking alternative employment or opportunities will give them pause. Then I remember they are not great critical thinkers.

The more moderate Republicans stayed away and rightly so. I don’t think they will be tempted to rejoin. Luckily, he’s got much less chance. His base is shrinking, albeit at a much slower rate than it should. People are more aware of what a terrible person and president he will be. Those paying attentiyalready knew.

hitmyspot,

You mean happy to agree, happy to disagree. Depends on who is paying for the vacation this month.

hitmyspot,

I switch back between subscribed and all with blocks on communities. A medium ground with all, including blocks, or ‘quietens’ as well as blocks would help.

Some communities are spammy and I don’t want them cluttering my feed constantly, but complete block seems excessive. An option to only see the best of their posts would be good. So perhaps they would be quietened to see a max number of top posts or have a ratio applied to their popularity in my feed.

Some communities I do want to block forever though. The problem is subscribed is very limited until the communities build out. All is too spammy and requires lots of curation. We need a middle ground.

hitmyspot,

To be fair, the companies are raking in huge profits on the vaccines still. They can afford to do faster research themselves. If the public coffers pay, they should get equity.

hitmyspot,

Ugh, if only we knew we could have fixed it years ago by saying we’re tired of it. That would have saved a lot of hassle.

Research into vaccines doesn’t preclude any of those conversations and coronavirus still uses up lots of health resources. Better vaccines for new variants would help healthcare in general.

hitmyspot,

No, because you are posting on a non profit forum, so the outrage clicks don’t help them.

hitmyspot,

What’s funny is a lot of people in Ireland pronounce it Thigh land rather than Tie land. Irish people in general use a harder T than the soft th in most other words. I always wondered why. One theory I can’t up with is that it might be misplaced respectful. Like, if you know that th is usually pronounced softly, doing so for the place name of another country as it’s how they pronounce it is better. Even if it’s not how they pronounce it in this case.

Gareth Edwards New Film The Creator Releasing In September 29 (i.postimg.cc)

PLOT: Taking place in a future impacted by a war between the human race and the forces of artificial intelligence, the film’s plot follows an ex-special forces agent who is recruited to hunt down and kill the Creator, who has developed a mysterious weapon with the power to end the war by destroying mankind itself.

hitmyspot,

Or when the stars can’t promote it, it’s not a big deal if they are not that famous. And with others gone, the competition is easier. I wouldn’t read into the comparison too much. There are valid arguments in all directions. Each will make a decision that matches their predictions and their projected differences by moving.
