I know several transgender people and none of them are as obsessed with gender as certain politicians who have no reason to even care what other people do with their bodies/social lives.
What are some fun or useful things you print? I see a lot of prints online that are toys or action figures, and that’s pretty neat but I usually am not impressed with the quality.
I am still so confused about this one. Is this like a thing? Honestly I wouldn’t be surprised anymore. All the rest is pretty real, we basically “sacrifice” children by giving religions so much power, war, unregulated fast food, etc.
I feel like almost all of it is blatantly obvious everyone the surgeon with the cooler, since I’m not aware of any child organ harvesting epidemic (and I maybe don’t want to be).
I’m a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you’ll get an idea of the face I’m making, so less chance of misunderstanding...
I have nothing against moderate emoji use that accompanies coherent text, but I disagree that texting is a poor medium for communication. We’ve been effectively writing for thousands of years. It’s a skill that can be difficult for some people, and can take practice to become good at, but that doesn’t make it a bad medium.
And just eat in general. My goodness sometimes I’m so surprised, I’ll be feeling terrible (usual for me) and I’ll realize I haven’t eaten in a long time and take like one bite of something and instantly my headache and possibly fatigue are significantly better.
This article says they’re raising it to $10, no? I think this is the article I read earlier. But Central Park is fantastic and the only thing I know about Apple TV.
I would literally never pay money for my kid to be able to watch Disney or probably any TV. The only thing I ever pay money for is a few educational apps and they are cheap. You can’t rent kid’s movies at the library if you don’t pirate things.
I like dogs like I like toddlers. It’s fun to hang out with other people’s for a while, but ultimately they’re annoying, loud, and make a mess. I feel like in the past 10 years or so, dog owners have become increasingly convinced that everyone thinks their slobbering, untrained mutt is god’s gift to everyone, and expects...
I’ve rarely seen this. I have seen some inconsiderate things like people thinking they could bring their “purse dogs” in Dollar Tree? But I’ve never been to anyone’s house where the dog is just allowed to steal food, or jump on people, etc. Other than a few well-behaved service dogs in my lifetime, I’ve never seen a dog in a restaurant. That’s not legal. I’ve heard of people acting like ESAs have public access, but I’ve never actually seen it.
I set an alarm and wake up an hour before I wake up to take my stimulants. I take them then sleep for another hour. That’s the only way they don’t worsen my insomnia. And I’m in the smallest dose and I take it before the sun rises.
I had severe insomnia before I got my stimulants and as long as I keep that very early regimen they don’t worsen my insomnia.
Haha I’m the same, severely ADHD but really sensitive to the stimulants. But my metabolism is slow, so it lasts me most of the day when I take it early. And yeah I have cats… I keep my pill in bed, and when I roll over to take it, they literally step all over me on me face and slam their heads into my head hahaha.
I fully quit Reddit in June when Sync couldn’t access Reddit anymore. I sometimes miss aspects of it. I’m trying to do things in the real world more. I’m on Lemmy a few times a week. For a while I was on Lemmy every day, but the content didn’t keep up with my consumption. I do like the content better, but there’s less of it. I’m trying to replace these things with better habits. I spend time online looking for local events and looking up tutorials on YouTube (NewPipe). I’m actually trying to do those events and follow those tutorials. The less content I take in, the better I feel. Trying to develop real world ambitions. It’s a little tricky.
Republican Speaker of the House Mike Johnson, in his first remarks after being elected Wednesday afternoon, told Members of Congress that “Scripture” and “the Bible” are clear that they have been “ordained” by God.
I’m not saying it’s exactly the same, but I’ve heard of American kindergarten teachers being told to take down the color learning rainbow decor which were NOT pride flags because bigoted parents threw a huge fit about the gay decorations. I’ve seen unironic videos of people claiming any decor featuring a rainbow in a classroom is LGBTQ indoctrination. And they were pointing at cartoon depictions of the sky, like with smiling clouds and suns.
I homeschool my kid (properly) for medical reasons, and I did not realize until I tried going to homeschool events how messed up the culture is. I’m in a purple state. It’s so hard to find anyone who homeschools who isn’t bigoted. There are a few, and I’m trying to cultivate relationships with them, but it’s difficult when they’re so few and far between. My county is liberal, but the city in the next county over would be a better fit if we could move or regularly travel an hour away. I don’t want my kid around these bigoted parents. He has good friends who are in public school, but my kid is too young to go to school with his multiple medical conditions (especially considering I’ve personally seen these schools neglect medically fragile kids), so he mostly only gets to see his friends on the weekends.
Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....
To my knowledge it doesn’t have that, but the suggested videos are pretty good. Like if I’m watching a science video, it will suggest other science videos. Otherwise I’m just subscribed to a few hundred channels and I mostly use the latest releases tab (not sure what it’s officially called but it shows everything put out by your subscriptions every time you refresh it).
I’d like to hear about people’s most successful approaches or styles (even if unconventional), that helped them to overcome or at least get their various struggles under control....
I read things like this (or try to) and I think, just let him be. The most powerful thing that can help someone is what they think works for them. There’s no need to tear it down if it’s not harmful to others.
If someone stumbles across something like this and is influenced by it, I think odds are extremely great that they were already of a similar mindset. If it preached violence or bigotry or anytime I’d see more of an issue.
Chicken prices at U.S. grocery stores have hit record highs and should stay elevated as Tyson Foods and other companies dial back poultry production to boost margins while inflation-weary shoppers buy chicken instead of beef and pork....
There are actually a lot of canned and frozen plants other than beans and rice. Tofu is really good (also rising in price, but still not as bad as meat), and keeps an extremely long time in the fridge. I get a bunch of no salt added canned vegetables for super cheap because I have disabilities and I cannot prepare everything from scratch, and make a really good vegetable soup full of protein from peas and beans, for really cheap. The reason I get no salt added is because then I can add bouillon and spices to make my own broth, which would be grossly salty if I also used salted canned food. Although the number of cans vary, we call it 9 Can Soup. Because that’s what it had the first time. I also use fresh potatoes if I have any on hand. One of the cans are usually tomato sauce. Sometimes I’ll add a few cans of salted veggies if I got them from a food bank, I just rinse them.
I can see the obvious problems with a repost bot reposting things without contemplation but one thing I would like to point out is that the comments in the AITA threads are often not likely to reach OP anyway. They get into the thousands and OP doesn’t read all of them, of course. I think they act more as a hypothetical discussion amongst the commenters, primarily. Which I think is really interesting on its own. I think discussing even hypothetically who would be at fault in such a scenario (especially considering many of these stories are obviously fake to begin with) has become the main point in the main attraction of the subreddit.
That said, I don’t think we need bots. Not for that kind of thing. I feel like anyone can post hypothetical scenarios in many communities, and we’d get good discussions and insights.
I’ve never agreed to this, but I might be on Walmart Wi-Fi from a long time ago. Once recently shopping at Walmart in person I got an email to my account saying something really creepy like, “rate your in store purchases” and sent me pictures of each item I bought IN STORE with an invitation to rate each. Also included my real name. This isn’t even the email I use for my online pickup orders.
Walmart is not a membership store. I never scanned a membership card, or put in any code or anything. I walked in with my child, browsed around a little bit, ended up purchasing a water gun and some potted flowers, paid at the self-scan, and walked out. I did use a debit card, but that card shouldn’t even be connected with the old account that I got an email for, as the card is years newer than the account.
Anyone who knows about kids’ movies knows how popular princess movies are, especially Disney princesses. My child is six and absolutely loves them too. My child also loves princes and kings, but I’m having a hard time finding anything that features a character as easily beloved as Elsa or Moana for example. Even worse, a lot...
This is how we started too, but as our kid gets older it just all becomes part of his vocabulary. He already has a really peculiar vocabulary to begin with so add our code words to it and it’s just… very interesting.
Dear lemmy, someone very close to my heart is starting to fall into conspiracy theories. It’s heartbreaking. Among other things, he has now told me that soy beans are not supposed to be consumed by human beings and is convinced that despite the literal centuries of human soy bean cultivation and consumption, we shouldn’t eat...
My 6 year old was asking me about this a few weeks ago. He’s asking, how do our minds work? How did we come to be thinking and feeling and thinking about thinking? He says, “I know we’re made of cells, but how did the cells… find their voice?” He’s so fun.
Like a year prior to this, I stayed up all night trying to Google it, I guess for some reason I thought the answer would be a little clearer but apparently it’s highly debated and mostly unknown.
Danelo Cavalcante, the convicted killer who escaped from a Pennsylvania prison, was seen overnight Saturday, according to state police, who said the fugitive had “changed his appearance” as the manhunt enters its 11th day....
Even if we kept the car way of life (not saying we should) doesn’t it seem like there are way too many cars being produced? Like how many new cars do we really need every year? I honestly do not know the numbers, I’m just saying it sure seems like this many brand new cars don’t need to exist.
I don’t know the full context of this conversation, but is it normal for homes to have large garages? I live in a 620 sq foot house (way too small, I have only one kid), and no garage. I wouldn’t even want a garage, I have a driveway? Some of my neighbors have garages but they are not that large, they certainly don’t make up 50% of their space, but some of them 1/3rd, if their house is smaller. Most houses in my neighborhood are bigger than my house but not huge.
That’s a good point, we do have hail and tornados where I live. But I guess growing up poor we just accepted damage to vehicles. Not that I’m saying it’s ideal, just that I hadn’t really considered it an avoidable part of life.
My bikes and lawnmower are in a really small shed. I do wish we had a bigger shed though mainly because we have to stack the bikes on top of the lawnmower so it’s a big hassle with my wife and I both being disabled to unpack and repack the shed every time the grass needs cut. So a garage would help with that too. I guess I want a small garage now, you’ve sold me haha. Still can’t afford it though.
I’m 265 and 5’9", and I spent my whole life feeling like this was my fault. I’ve changed my diet, I’ve tried exercising, but I was always met with extreme difficulty. I thought exercise was supposed to be difficult and I was just a big baby. People would say, you just have to build up stamina. It gets easier. But it never did. It would get to the point where I’d be crying and pushing myself and still not accomplishing as much exercise as even an average unfit person could. I’d walk a few miles every day and never build stamina, never feel better, never lose weight.
I just found out I have an issue with my pituitary gland, likely a tumor (going for a scan). I just had the tests to confirm the issue is in my pituitary (the tests were miserable). I’m actually not producing certain hormones, so it turns out I’m incapable of building muscle. That’s why I can’t build stamina or convert my fat into muscle. I’ve been told this was “almost certainly” my issue for 2 months, (after my mom, aunts, and cousins were all diagnosed; we likely share a genetic defect causing pituitary tumors) and I’ve had the confirmed test results for over 2 weeks. It’s really hard to shift my perspective away from “this is my fault, I just need to try harder.” I expect to battle with health insurance a couple weeks to months before getting my hormone replacement. My mom only took 2 weeks (averages 2 months), so fingers crossed.
I’ve always thought more people were overweight for medical reasons than assumed by the general population, I just didn’t think I was one of them. I see a lot of moms like me hustling after their toddlers, eating well, trying their best, and still being overweight. I wonder if it has something to do with all the “endocrine disruptors” I’m always hearing about. I definitely think some people are overweight “by choice” (or by a mental disorder rather than a physical one), and I have major problems with “fat positivity” (I believe in body neutrality), but I think it’s more people having a medical problem than you’d expect. Same with my wife and child who both eat like horses but have BMIs of 13. It’s not like they’re not trying to gain weight.
For real though. Tough to get through. (lemmy.world)
