No reason to fight this. Everything is a remix of something else. That’s just how creativity works.

These comments are wild and mostly sexist as fuck.

If you have kids and you give them complete unfettered access to the web I’m sure they have seen more than a boob. If that bothers you perhaps try being a parent. Maybe getting involved with your child’s online activity. Maybe don’t use the Internet as a fucking babysitter.

I’ve used Kdenlive for my personal projects and in a professional setting. It’s easier to install than Divinci Resolve and almost as powerful.

All streets should have a speed limit of 20 mph. All roads 35 mph. Highways 50 mph. Stroads should not exist.

Zero. Not using a browser right now but I usually only have 1-2. Anything more than 6 tabs open and I start getting turned around.

I use linux for the same reason I wear fuzzy socks and sweaters

My understanding of the history of fashion is that back in the 1950s America it was expected that you wore a suit/dress at work unless you had a different uniform. There were a bunch of very boring people who thought that we should be wearing office job garb all the time, because they wore suits so much it was their default...

I work as an web admin for a small, all remote, company. I use Linux and I wear fuzzy socks.

How do I install piped into my Roku?

If that doesn’t work tell them blackberry.

First off, loved that movie.

Secondly, I’m 44 and I have a tight group of friends that I absolutely love. A few weeks ago we had a great camping trip together and we just had an awesome Thanksgiving party last night.

I’m incredibly lucky. Not everyone has it this good.

Maps. I like to explore how to navigate places that I haven’t been yet. I’ll go on Google Street view and look around the neighborhood.

I’ve seen this one before.

  • A ton of people will complain
  • Firefox will get a bunch of users for a few days
  • 90% will go back to Chrome

That last 10% will be happier but that’s just the way it goes. This is based on Netflix, Reddit, Twitter, and Microsoft.

Boycott Wayland. It breaks everything!

Other should stop just using it because it doesn’t work for you? Wouldn’t it make more sense that those who do work on it keep improving it so it doesn’t break?

I met my current girlfriend in my mid 30s. It’s not too late.

Probably the same thing I’m doing right now.

Sell me on Linux

No. I hate these kind of posts cause if you need to be talked into it, it’s not for you.

If you’re genuinely interested, just grab a distro and boot up a VM. Tinker and explore.

art,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

Sounds like you need upgrade your image viewer? Everything else is loading it fine.

I separate my boot and home partition but often make my root not big enough to install the packages I need. I’ve done this so many times over the last 20 years you’d think I’d learn from my mistakes. Nope.

I’ll probably do it again the next time I do a clean install.

We’ve had gpg signatures for ages. No block chain needed.

art,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. Old signatures can be included in a new signature.

New technologies are great but sometimes you’re just reinventing the wheel by creating a more complicated and energy expensive wheel.

It would make sense that the ones doing the majority of the damage to the roads (cars) should be the ones paying for it.

Also, cyclists taxes pay for things like public parking even though we never use it.

Mozilla Senior Director of Content explained why Mozilla has taken an interest in the fediverse and Mastodon (techcrunch.com)

"the company looked at the history of social media over the past decade and didn’t like what it saw… existing companies that are only model motivated by profit and just insane user growth, and are willing to tolerate and amplify really toxic content because it looks like engagement… "

art,
@art@lemmy.world avatar

The solution for capitalism-out-of-control is not more capitalism. The less big money players in the fediverse the better.

I’ve been using Flatpak applications for a year (I think) and it’s been wonderful. There are a few bugs here and there but overall way less headaches.

I can run my mature, rock solid Debian system and sell have the freshest builds of desktop software that I use.

It’s not for everyone but I love it. It’s thin and doesn’t weigh much plus it’s got great battery. Perfect for drawing or reading when curled up on the couch.

Plus watching movies on an airplane is easier when you don’t have a keyboard in the way.

I use Discordo for work. It’s pure CLI/TUI and it doesn’t have all the features of Discord but I think that’s the point.

what did Bud Light expect?

They’ve been marketing to the queer community for years now. They were probably expecting business as usual.

I think immutable distributions will be more attractive to hardware vendors. I think hardware vendors feel that current Linux is too much like the wild West. Much like Chrome OS, the immutable OS can be a lockdown for work environment or school environments.

I can see a market for that.

Those of us who know how to unlock it, will have a large selection a very powerful Linux hardware.
