Give it time and there will be bad actors trying to manipulate Lemmy.

Apple announces that RCS support is coming to iPhone next year (9to5mac.com)

In a surprising move, Apple has announced today that it will adopt the RCS (Rich Communication Services) messaging standard. The feature will launch via a software update “later next year” and bring a wide range of iMessage-style features to messaging between iPhone and Android users....

I’d say that it is the Twitter clone with the best chance at replacing Twitter. It already feels like Twitter (in a good way).

It’s still invite only but everyone has an excess of invite codes at this point.

I just kinda hear about it here and on Twitter/Bluesky. I also like to watch Hasanabi and sometimes listen to NPR

No because they would settle the West Bank and further the ethnic cleansing of Palestinians.

That really surprises me considering their the lemmy devs’ leftist political beliefs

I didn’t take them to be free speech absolutists, though.

YouTube is axing its ad-free Premium Lite subscription plan - The Verge (www.theverge.com)

I was happily using this for a year or so now. Feels fairer than using an ad blocker. But now they apparently want more money out of people. Feels like some sort of internet video apocalypse is happening, where the services become extremely fragmented and expensive, like YouTube, netflix, hbo, Hulu, Disney+ and whatnot. Each...

So they’re actively working to block ad blockers, showing more ads, and bundling the ad free version with a worse version of Spotify—a no-win scenario.

The Google’s breakup can’t happen fast enough.

The very definition of enshittification

California workers who cut countertops are dying of an incurable disease (www.latimes.com)

“Nobody uses water,” one man in a Dodgers cap said in Spanish when Maria Cabrera approached, holding flyers about silicosis, an incurable and suffocating disease that has devastated dozens of workers across the state and killed men who have barely reached middle age....

My boss has emphysema and asthma, but refuses to wear a mask when doing demolition because “it makes it too hard to breath.” I don’t understand this mentality.

Seriously, though. How often do you think of the Roman Empire?

I know this is a joke/meme, but I sincerely think of the Roman Empire a surprising amount of times. I find myself obsessing over how Roman citizens were living just as complex lives as we are today, or about Marcus Aurelius’ life and philosophy, or about how the Republic fell and became a totalitarian state.

airportline,
@airportline@lemmy.ml avatar

I don’t know where this trend came from. I haven’t thought about the Roman Empire since the last Historia Civilis video came out.

Bluesky doesn’t apparently have all the user safety tools that it needs before opening the flood gates.

Atheists, is there anything religious that sticks with you to this day?

I am Ganesh, an Indian atheist and I don’t eat beef. It’s not like that I have a religious reason to do that, but after all those years seeing cows as peaceful animals and playing and growing up with them in a village, I doubt if I ever will be able to eat beef. I wasn’t raised very religious, I didn’t go to temple...

I've been blocking ads for so long that actually seeing them feels perverse

I use ad blockers and open source privacy focused software whenever I can but occasionally I have to use computers that don’t belong to me or an older phone where my usual applications aren’t installed and seeing all the advertisements just feels dirty and dystopian....

What's a skill that's taken for granted where you live, but is often missing in people moving there from abroad?

I was thinking about that when I was dropping my 6 year old off at some hobbies earlier - it’s pretty much expected to have learned how to ride a bicycle before starting school, and it massively expands the area you can go to by yourself. When she went to school by bicycle she can easily make a detour via a shop to spend some...

Good luck getting around the suburbs without a car

The Spotify Car Thing cost $100, but I can't use it anymore. (lemmy.ml)

EDIT: The only reason why I still had it at this point was because I could use it with other apps. However, now that my Spotify Subscription is cancelled, it doesn’t work with anything. It’s mildly infuriating because today, I can’t still use it with other apps like I was able to yesterday....
