I had an issue logging into Twitch last night for the first time in a while. I just didn’t get any 2FA messages delivered to me, until about 12 hours later when I was asleep and they were probably long invalidated. and now suddenly I can’t log in to my MVD either. Apparently there’s some sort of SMS short+long code outage...
Speaking of app apps, I got blocked from logging in to my second Lemmy account because the codes generated are wrong, it’s bizarre, resetting the Passwords doesn’t remove 2FA so my account is lost 🙄
The old system was even weirder, I had to use Libreoffice built-in QR code generator to set up 2FA, I created my second account after this latest update ( glad they added the QR code for me this time ), but yeah it didn’t work, so the account is lost until the next major update which will disable 2FA for everyone…
But I didn’t wait, I created another account and it worked 🤷♂️
How’d you manage that one? The new system requires you to enter a valid 2fa code from your TOTP app before its activated
Exactly, and this is why I’m so confused, I tried using the generated codes many times on desktop and mobile and it says they’re wrong
Unless this was an instance that hadn’t applied the update yet, in which case 2fa will disabled once the update applies.
Nah, it was on the latest update 0.19, I checked
It’s probably a bug, I didn’t scan the QR code, I clicked on the link which opened the 2FA app and created the entry, not that it matters but that’s how I did it…
I scanned the QR code the second time and that worked

Yes, that’s exactly what I mean, as far as I know UT lacks it, I didnt look much into PmOS because my pixel isn’t well supported, but that’s great to hear
Not me, my friend uses UT ( not as a daily driver ), the experience - in my opinion - is like using an Android from 2013, I didn’t like the UI, the web browsing experience because it’s laggy, and the lack of native apps, maybe with the feature release we might see a redesign
I saw people using Linux phones just because they wanna cut off their phone addiction, less apps, less notifications… Etc
Based on the answers of this thread many people assume the devil is a red giant with horns…
I don’t see why is that the case, I also don’t see why you think he’s evil, considering we never heard his side of the story, and the narrative is written by the church

with the simple tools suite being sold to a purveyor of non-foss things, remind me of your favorite lists of recommended apps? i was using simple contacts and am not immediately sure of a good replacement. i would want one without internet permissions, which was why i disabled the google builtin.
I hope that bag of cash made him happy, because no one is going to use anything he makes in the future.
Selling your project is one thing, but doing it quietly, and in secret ( even contributors didn’t know the sale was happening ), and after lots of comments and confusion he appears with just one line : Yeaaahhh, the sale is in process
He didn’t just sold his suite of apps, he sold his users
Question: since adblockers are against their TOS now, why don’t they just remove them from the web store ?
Only a fool would miss that opportunity to market their browser at that point, but its seems strange to me they’re playing this gang war
First They went after invidious, then they slowly started blocking adblocker only for desktop users…
I think that the plan is to not hit people where it hurts directly ( which is mobile phones ), just start slowly taking things that only matter to a small percentage of users, and once that’s taken care of, move to more noticeable stuff
I’m a heavy emoji user, texting is such a poor medium for communication, many times people get the wrong message, but with an emoji you’ll get an idea of the face I’m making, so less chance of misunderstanding...
glad I’m not the only one, maybe because people here are techy and older, they’re used to terminals and IDEs, these things don’t utilize emojis AFAIK, it’s def a mentality thing
Best medium is face to face where you can actually see and hear the person you’re talking to, after that it’s voice call, after that it’s text on paper and lastly paintings and symbols…
I said “poor” not “bad”, compared to the real one on one experience, also looking at religious scriptures are misinterpreted all the time and used for nefarious purposes, should tell you something about relying on text
emojis can ( It’s a possibility ) add context and mood to the discussion, plus they cute, that’s all
I was just wondering why lemmings don’t use them and downvote who uses them ( not that I care about meaningless points ), turns out Lemmy has lots of boomers
Makes sense, I hate Discord for this very reason, they have little animated emojis all over the UI, I know it depends on the server but every server goes for that look
I like eye candy but that’s too much, I like how Matrix has done it, they give you all the reactions and it stays away from text
Is SMS 2FA broken/degraded for anyone else?
