Kinguin for example is one of those site i would like to hear more opinion and experience about. I’ve read different opinins on the old Redead social before. It seems a 3 to 1 situation there. I even buyed a small indi there using PayPal and so far I had no issues. Any experience about this site???
It’s one of the grey market sites afaik. I used it a few times for digital versions of games I own, some overpriced DLCs and oldies, which rarely goes on sale.
I know it’s not ideal and they might have some questionable stuff there, but user experience-wise I had no issues with the site so far.
The issue isn't the safety of your payment method or not working keys. The issue is with how they source their keys. They are often bought with stolen credit cards and sold to them. It's quite complicated but the end result is that the game developers are literally losing money on these services due to chargebacks and such.
That's what I meant. They are sold to them by the users. And these users are often card thieves, directly or indirectly. Whether we like it or not it's a de facto money laundering system.
Can’t pirate online games. Additionally I don’t care if I “hurt” a giant multi million dollar company like ea or whatever by not giving them my 60 bucks. it’s of course different with indie games.
The transaction with kinguin is safe. They even offer a cheap protection against non-working keys, so you are guaranteed to get a working key.
The big issue is the keys themselves aren't always obtained legally. And then it can take a while for the key to get deactivated. By that point you are usually out of luck trying to get your money back or a new key.
I think Starcraft has enough story and character development by now that its identity is more than just the mechanics that it started with.
It’s just another game.
It would still be a Starcraft game. If we were to ignore the lore and only consider the RTS format, then even the first Starcraft was “just another game”. Those mechanics weren’t unique or new.
Similarly, World of Warcraft is still a Warcraft game, even though it’s hung on a different framework from the original.
I think Starcraft has enough story and character development by now that its identity is more than just the mechanics that it started with.
I can imagine that, but I don’t think anyone but RTS fans know that.
I feel like, if they want to ‘bring it back’ as a brand, they would need to do an RTS game with all the marketing and such, to please the fans and bring it back into the public’s memory, and then they could follow it up with a non-RTS spinoff.
If they don’t do it like this, they’ll likely have another debacle like with Diablo Immortals, where fans are waiting for a full-fledged title in that series and they’re announcing something that’s just not that.
WTF does “dead genre” mean? There are still people that love it and play it and want more.
The people shouting at blizzcon aren’t yelling because they need a new model and voice lines for protoss units, they are doing it because they want another RTS
StarCraft hasn't seen any significant development since 2015. There aren't many other competitors in the RTS space since about that time, as well.
C&C hasn't had anything since 2010. AoE's last major entry was in 2021 and had a pretty weak reception. I can't think of the last RTS that actually sold well and has large adoption besides SC2.
It's a very niche genre these days, and few developers are willing to make them in today's climate of looters, extractions, and battle royales. RTS games just simply aren't making the waves they used to anymore.
Then you don’t follow RTS news at all. Stormgate is made by ex blizzard employees that made Starcraft. Zero Space is made by Starcraft pros and modders. Zero Space got funded incredibly well through kickstarter. Both of these are a return to Warcraft 3 / Starcraft 2 type of gameplay and a lot of people are waiting for their release.
Are all the features that were supposed to be there at launch added yet? I absolutely loved the game for the first month or two, and so did my friend group that played with me, but it was quickly becoming clear that it wouldn’t be a finished product any time soon. I was so rooting for it to be good because the highs are so high. Sadly the lows were much lower
I never played at launch, but friends that have are praising it as a big return to form. The only thing that is sort of annoying is the crafting system and map variety is a bit limited. Other than that, I count down the minutes until everyone in my house is in bed so I can jump on and slay in the Emperor’s name.
When I first got the PS5, I was going to buy three extra controllers so we could all play, but there are hardly any splitscreen couch games, and hardly any that support 4 players.
I’ve been playing a lot of Surviving Mars lately. It’s like a city builder without most of the boring stuff, and needing to keep an eye on your resources while you are trying to build a colony on a hostile planet gives it a survival vibe.
Hopefully they just make GTA Online it’s own separate standalone game so then maybe they’ll actually add content for a single player game after release for the first time in nearly 20 years and not just keep shitting out new microtransactions.
Word. I tried it, I wanted to get in on it and have access to all the extra content. But when it’s like that, I start with a new character and then immediately have to contend with some little shit with a rocket launcher, welp, I’m out. I got rid of PlayStation+, or whatever the hell it’s called, altogether because I otherwise don’t care about online multiplayer.
roboquest, A super fun shooter i have been playing with my son just left early access with a ton of new stuff to do. We will be playing that for a couple weeks.
I picked that up when I saw it hit 1.0 and I’ve been loving it. I’ve kind of struggled to get into similar games like Risk of Rain 2 and Gunfire Reborn but this one “clicked” with me.
I finally tried Death Stranding a couple of days ago. I’m still on it. The visuals and storytelling are quite compelling.
I do understand why it’s not for most people, though. You do put a lot of effort into walking, but honestly, I’ve played harder games for less, so it’s quite alright for me.
You do eventually get better accessories and become faster.
Ratchet And Clank: Rift Apart is also an amazing game. Rather relaxing to play. The visuals and story are also quite nice.
Nice choice on both. Death Stranding in particular I think I put more effort into building infrastructure to trivialise or avoid walking than I did on anything else. And I loved it.
Some time back there was an April Fool’s Day release for World of Starcraft. I assume they didn’t make it because they had maxed out their bank accounts.
I know it isn’t the most accurate, but New Super Mario Bros U on Wii U had 5.6 Million units in lifetime sales. Mario Wonder is at 4.3M two weeks in. I think Wonder is going to match NSMBU around Thanksgiving day.
Just crazy to think about the shift in the decade between these two releases.
That’s a great point. SMWonder is putting out huge numbers compared to the equally amazing NSMBU. But console sales may be a factor. DS sales for the first weeks of NSBM was high but not 132M high.
DS got there eventually (including DS Lite in those sales even though the overwhelming majority are from DS Lite) but didn’t have the user base SMWonder had at launch.
