This always puzzled me. Why don’t humans act much more aggressive or crazed like its often depicted with animals. Afaik there’s 2 types of rabies, “dumb” and “furious” so my question is more towards the 2nd type. For example, we never hear of rabies causing a human to accidentally bite another human so why is that?
Bats actually. They seem to be carriers of the disease but don’t seem to be affected by it themselves, but they might still scratch you or bite you through normal behavior.
Although fortunately not a lot because they’re not particularly aggressive. Mostly they just ignore humans as they tend to be out of reach and we’re far too slow to be able to really do anything to them.
They exist they’re called LED Printers, you have to do a bit of searching for them though because they’re often mislabeled as Laser Jet. If you go on Amazon for example and look for laserjet printers in the type box right at the bottom they’ll tell you if it’s really a laser jet or is actually a LED printer. Get an LED printer, Brother makes some good ones.
They are lightning fast even for color printing. They use toner like laser jet (which I guess is where the confusion comes from) but they work in a different way.
Great and what if a dictatorship takes over and starts looking through historical data. This is a depressingly high possibility in my country.
But even going less extreme than that, what about just draconian surveillance laws. In my country they’ve already tried to ban VPNs fortunately they’re technologically illiterate so they’ve been massively unsuccessful at that one. But what if they grow a collective brain?
I’ll go first. Mine is that I can’t stand the Deadpool movies. They are self aware and self referential to an obnoxious degree. It’s like being continually reminded that I am in a movie. I swear the success of that movie has directly lead to every blockbuster having to have a joke every 30 seconds
I don’t actually like the new Dune movies. I just thought that it had the ast Lord Of The Rings movie energy, and that it just went on a bit longer than i really wanted it to. There was certainly some good bits to it no doubt but they didn’t really feel connected to me.
I like Strange New Worlds and Lower Decks but frankly Discovery can get lost. Oh it’s dark and gritty and special magic flying mushroom aliens that kind of break the setting because they can basically teleport you anywhere, they just ruined the canon. Also it’s set in the past why is it set in the past? The show doesn’t need to be in that time. So they could have set it in the future and actually done something interesting with the franchise.
To me it is clear they didn’t want to make a Star Trek show, so why did they slap the franchise name on it? It would have been fine if they just made an original show.
Christopher Nolan is a director who is fine when he is sort of contained but if you don’t contain him he tends to go off on random tangents that don’t really lead anywhere and the movie just becomes this kind of incoherent nonsense.
I think it’ll happen the other way around. Will get out there at least in some amount because the materials out there and we can mine them. There will be plenty of opportunity in space for people to form their own societies. They’ll have to it’ll be too difficult to administer from earth not unless we invent faster than light travel and then you’ll just do the same thing on a larger scale.
The problem earth has is there’s not enough room for everyone to experiment with different societies.
With more room we have more people and with more people we have more innovation eventually someone will invent the replicator or matter synthesis or something and we can stop worrying about resources at which point governments rather cease to have any power.
I always get a little bit annoyed with emoji because they had the opportunity to become an interesting pictographic language. But because of various insistences on them representing things rather than concepts we’ve sort of got stuck and the floppy disk have to be floppy disk is an example of that.
What I mean is things that are difficult to convey in language. Like how we’ve had to resort to /s and italics and bold to convey emphasis. All the open box symbol that is used to indicate a space rather than just having a gap.
Chinese is of course not a pictographic language it’s an alphabet like western alphabets.
We kind of have pictograms in Unicode already like ☢️ or ⚠️ or ⚡ which are universal even though they don’t really represent physical objects.
The radiation icon particular doesn’t really make any kind of logical sense, radiation is in non-visual threat so there’s no reason it should look like that, over anything else, and yet everyone knows that’s what the symbol means. It’s not a picture of something, it’s the picture of a concept.
Equally there’s no real reason that warning should be a triangle and electricity definitely doesn’t look like that. Again though we kind of don’t even think about it we just know what the symbols mean. With Chinese you actually have to learn the language like you have to learn english or you have to learn Italian.
Hell if you want to use the internet as a babysitter all you have to do is install one of the many commercially available parental control blockers. Obviously it would be better to actually be engaged in a child’s life, but if that’s not an option for you then there is software that can help.
I have absolutely no idea how effective it is of course but I’m sure there are reviews online.
I’m troubled by the term “artistic”. Who on earth is deciding what is and isn’t art?
Seems like an ethical quagmire that’s not really worth their time to be wading into, but they seem to be doing so. Perhaps they haven’t thought all the implications through.
I do not understand why they don’t straight up just make a 18 plus tab and be done with it. Why do they seem to have this moral objection to how they make money? After all I am damn sure the shareholders won’t care.
Pretty sure twitch is supposed to only be for all 16 plus anyway right I’m sure that’s somewhere in their terms of service that you can’t have an account of your underage.
Nope, I can’t see any problem coming from this claim at all. It’s not like they have a history of over promising and then under delivering or anything like that.
I should work in the games industry. Apparently you don’t need to be very bright.
To be honest, it really is a boring game. I don’t understand why people like it.
It’s way too grindy and there’s way too many resources to keep track of. I get that it’s a survival game and it needs resources but they just make it ridiculous. in order to make something you have to craft a thing into X then Y then Z - you can’t just directly craft into Z, so they’re just artificially padding out the game because there isn’t actually that much in the way of content.
Anything that’s easy to fake like that I wouldn’t risk personally. All they have to do is put the wrong sticker on it. It’s not hard to make a forgery.
Then you’re stuck trying to deal with the Chinese company to get your money back. I’d much rather just go to a box store and pick one up, at least I know what I’m getting, and I know that if it turns out not to be the real product I’ll have no issue returning it.
I think somebody said something on those lines already but there’s so much work to do to mod starfield into something good that the whole thing would be like 80% mods by the time you were finished. Unless there’s an API it’s just going to be mods interacting on top of other mods and the whole thing is going to be a nightmare.
I’ve looked into it and it’s not exactly easy considering how clearly they need modding in order to make the game a success. You would think that it would be in their interest to make it simple but, nope.
You’re still up against the limitations of the engine. There’s no way for example to mod in interstellar flight because the engine just can’t support environments like that.
Except the Stargate also dematerializes you. Also there’s no way of guaranteeing that the gate on the other end is open and there’s apparently no safety protocols to ensure that it is so you could open the gate and then step through and just die.
Oh you know it could be underwater.
Or in space.
Or around a black hole in which case you die even if you don’t enter.
Really they’re actually quite dangerous technology and definitely not safe.
The scientists used lasers to fuse two light atoms into a single one, releasing 3.15MJ (megajoules) of energy from 2.05MJ of input – roughly enough to boil a kettle....
In order to get the energy output of a fusion reactor with renewables you would have to have millions and millions of solar panels you don’t think that’s expensive?
Because they’re all solar punk enthusiasts. Basically modern day hippies but without the common sense.
They really really like renewable energy but they don’t have a clue what they’re talking about so anytime anyone comes up with anything that isn’t solar panels or wind turbines they throw a fit.
Right just as soon as all the people proclaiming that can point to the soul bit of my brain. There is absolutely no reason to say that AI cannot be creative there’s nothing fundamentally magic about creativity that means only humans can do it.
Right so why can’t the same sections be simulated? If you accept that the human brain is simply an organic implementation of a neural network, then you have to accept that a synthetic implementation can achieve the same thing.
The idea that the human brain is special is ludicrous and completely without evidence
How is that fair? If the vote had been to oppress an minority group you wouldn’t then go oh well it’s that population groups fault for being oppressed would you?
I’m not sure that the level of vitriol here is entirely justified. Wouldn’t the European Union be more economically sound if the UK rejoined. Wouldn’t a unified trade block be the best thing possible you should want the UK back in if the UK wants back in. I do not get this attitude of oh screw all the British people because well the vast majority of Scottish didn’t want it, most of the population of London didn’t want it. It was basically just a bunch of idiot yokels and old people who are now dead who wanted to leave the EU because they thought the EU was in some way this evil entity.
It was barely a majority vote and anyway it wasn’t legally binding so the government could have totally ignored it at the time and been fine the vote was utterly pointless.
The problem is the morons held the vote then decided to uphold the decision of the vote even though It was essentially only getting soundings.
It was a trade relationship why was it a matter of public consultation?
The people of the UK have been extremely hurt by this and it’s just irritating to see that apparently there would be resistance in the EU to fixing a mistake. Why is there resistance I don’t get it?

What are some "no brainer" inventions or features that just haven't made it to the consumer yet?
I don't have anything to hide, so I don't care
What to say to people who say this kinda of thing? Usually I just say “ok then”
