ChicoSuave,

I never thought Alpha Centauri would be an answer to a philosophical thought experiment but the writing was brilliant enough to have already looked at this question 20 years ago. Good find.

ChicoSuave,

Damn, this post had potential to galvanized folks to make better memes but your comments show you’re a dick about it.

ChicoSuave,

Lots of evidence a d clues that were missed or given the benefit of the doubt. But yeah, it’s bad.

ChicoSuave,

That’s Korea era tech. The 80s version is a twin body Beechcraft with a Phoenix missile between the bodies.

ChicoSuave,

ESports needs more than 2 seasons.

ChicoSuave,

Or Netflix: we have repackaged 2 seasons as one with half of season 2 jammed in there to make it feel like it died unfinished.

ChicoSuave,

It’s a strange title but the idea makes sense: when solar winds die down a planet with a magnetic core sees a dramatic increase in its magnetosphere. Pretty cool finding and a good reason for more extraterrestrial satellites.

Bros before hoes: our transition stories

ChicoSuave,

And it turns out it still isn’t worth it.

ChicoSuave,

Ice cream. Someone wants ice cream, I am happy to show them where to get some. And I might get some myself too. Any reason for ice cream is a good reason.

ChicoSuave,

It would be absolutely on brand for a ferengi to have a 30 second ad before each communique.

ChicoSuave,

This quote is literally saying to not do that.

ChicoSuave,

This post is like 3 levels of coffee interest removed from mainstream. RDT is unknown outside of whatever small circle the listener is part of which does not overlap with other, known definitions of RDT.

This post is almost gatekeeping because of how much jargon and technobabble is required to know for this very specific subject. Hopefully you see the value in helping others enjoy your hobby and make any future explanation more open to new users!

ChicoSuave,

Only if Russia wants to win their war.

ChicoSuave,

Capitalism raised us and forced us to see things we love fail due to “market forces” so why not expose those big capital players to the same conditions we all face? Be good at business or be out of business.

ChicoSuave,

I agree with the pasta, which questions if it’s good enough and takes the notion of an implied revisit of another ingredient as a validation of its inadequacies.

ChicoSuave,

The story of a true outsider: Steve Jeltz. One of the only MLB players to be born in Paris. He was the worst baseball player in 1988 in the MLB with a .210 batting average but he was a reliable infielder.

June 8th 1989. His team, the Phillies, started a game against the Pirates with a rookie Barry Bonds helping lead the Pirates to an astounding 10 run first inning. The Phillies basically gave up trying and Jeltz took the opportunity to try new stuff. He hit 2 home runs that day. One as a lefty and the other as a righty - one of the only players to hit a home run from each side of home plate in a game. It was a first for the Phillies. Even more amazing is that before today the last homerun Jeltz hit was 7 years ago. He never hit home runs and today he hit 2 wild ones.

His team saw him smashing dingers and thought “if the worst player in the league can do this, maybe I should fuck around”. The Phillies rallied and went on to upset the 10 - 0 lead by winning 15 to 11. Because Steve Jeltz inspired a bunch of fuck ups to fuck around and, against all odds, it worked.

ChicoSuave,

Peter Theil needs to be hurt in a way money can’t fix. The only way he will start thinking about others is to need them.

ChicoSuave,

This is an improvement! Last war it took them 40 years to realize they helped the bad guys.

ChicoSuave,

He also loves in Ohio, which is basically buried in right wing propaganda and lost objectivity. They had a train full of poisonous chemicals spill and the news buried the story when it could because it is bad for right wing information if their decisions on regulation caused the problem.

ChicoSuave,

This was a Futurama episode. Spoiler alert for a bodiless robot: it works out

ChicoSuave,

What if a piece of consumer tech from the mid 90s helped explain? The Apple Newton brought offline handwriting recognition into the public perception and it was thought of as the Next Big Thing like AI or crypto. Inputs were all the rage in the 90s and handwriting recognition fell out of favor when speech to text software was released in the later half of the 90s.

Trek writers were trying to be forward thinking, and maybe there will be a handwriting resurgence that sees a maturation of the OCR tech, but for now it was a nice quiet piece of trivia that will be lost to time.

ChicoSuave,

Don’t forget the words that were uttered at the start of the war: bury them with sunflower seeds in their pockets.

ChicoSuave, (edited )

They are. This soldier is complaining that the Kremlin just sees them as disposable meat. The real question is when will the soldiers realize that they are fighting and dying for the desires of evil men when they could be fighting against them? They could be happy, but it may be so long since Russians have been happy they have forgotten the word for it. Like Italians have 33 words for pasta, because there is so much, Russians have lost their word for happiness. Their only word for it.

ChicoSuave,

I’ve never heard someone say they wanted to listen to pop or stadium country music because it’s innovative. In fact, a hasty and anecdotal surveying of friends and neighbors says that they listen to the music because it’s easy to listen to (ie unchallenging).

ChicoSuave,

Fun game: see how much of the set is used in other movies. Most of the Hallmark movies are made on the same set in Atlanta so some will share little things like the same staircase or same exterior of a house. Hallmark reuses more than just the plots!

ChicoSuave,

Harlequin novels are bodice rippers and basically porn without pictures. Literate ladies are thirsty but want something top shelf to sip on.

ChicoSuave,

Oh, is that why transmasc are more tolerated than transfem: conservatives can’t understand willingly taking a pay cut.

ChicoSuave,

So much cheese it could be a sandwich.

ChicoSuave,

That’s a genius use for static

ChicoSuave,

The directions say to mix the hot water thoroughly throughout the dry mixture, cover, and remove from heat so the entire mix can absorb the water. Sounds like there was no mixing and the half that wasn’t in the water barely got any while the rest was sitting in the water meant for the entire package. Easy fix is to mix it before covering. Hopefully the next batch comes out to your satisfaction!

ChicoSuave,

Sounds like you have boring family reunions…

ChicoSuave,

China: “should we tell anyone that we crashed? No no, it was a secret payload that touched down!”

ChicoSuave,

It has always been like that and if you didn’t notice, that’s on you for being unobservant.

ChicoSuave,

DPRK soldiers can’t be taller than Kim. Worried that some soldiers will try to challenge him physically, long ago the Kim dynasty made it illegal to be taller than the Great Leader. As a result the country has worked to keep the populace at or under 160cm.

Some allowance is made for a few centimeters above the limit by using hats to hide their height while the Kim family hairstyle adds a few. This way ensures that Kim stands out in every picture, this confirming the nature by stature of the Great Leader.

ChicoSuave,

Liches are undead, so that potion would probably rejuvenate necrotic flesh or it’s a strong poison to create more necrotic flesh. Both are not something supportive of living like a health potion would be.

ChicoSuave,

Having all scenery art direction by one person helped keep the look of the world uniform and similar.

ChicoSuave,

This begs the question: when does a stick become a branch?

ChicoSuave,

Army is #11 and Bingo is #17, so not far away! Side note is that about half of these top 10 make eyes water. It’s a great slice of Bluey representation.

ChicoSuave,

True neutral is never represented right. True neutrality is holding no allegiance because it would disrupt the order of things. A true neutral in a fight would change sides when a disadvantage was imposed on one side. In this examaple the person would either work to achieve simultaneous orgasm or tease with no release to keep the status quo.

ChicoSuave,

It looked like some Rick and Morty inspired cash grab from Paramount+ to fill out their streaming line up, so it was immediately passed over by me and some friends. When it got a 3rd season I realized it was probably going to last and started watching it when I can.

I wanted to get Paramount+ for it but their other Trek stuff is hot garbage for this TNG fan and it feels like paying for just one show would encourage them to continue fucking up Trek like they have. At least I have good friends who don’t mind subsidizing Rick Berman’s flavor of boomer space action.
