A lawsuit was filed against Reddit alleging that the company fired an employee with anxiety for taking medical leave. The employee, Jamie Lee, had worked at Reddit as an accountant for over 4 years with positive reviews. In July 2022, Lee requested 3 days off for her health but was denied. She was later placed on medical leave...
Can someone who still uses that shithole of a site tell me if this article has any traction over there, the only way to fix this is more people leaving.
Whats included in ‘content’? Is video games included? What about software? If software is included I’m pretty sure you can’t really use any electronic devices, since I’m unaware of any now public domain oses that aren’t huge vulnerabilities.
How did he pay only 10% of his bail? He used a bail bondsmen. Normally when you pay bail you get all of it back assuming you show up to court, but since not everyone can make bail, they have the bondsmen who takes a small percentage of the money but doesn’t give it back in exchange for paying the full bail. it’s a US exclusive thing I believe (they are illegal where I live)
As for why the allegedly rich man is paying the bondsmen and not just the whole bail… well I’ll leave that one up to you.
My mother in law was almost crying with joy when I (a white guy) was eating her dinner with my hands for the first time. I was just confused at what the fuss was. Remember we all live in our bubbles.
My old campus had a huge Canada geese problem, their aggressive breeding season coincided with spring exams. People would get out of exams and then charge the flocks of angry defensive geese. Leads to a few stitches and at least one broken arm.
In the past the advantage to consoles from a business perspective was ecosystem locking people so they could milk profits. That’s why you saw consoles be really cheap but have their games cost more than their pc counterparts and why there were so many more console exclusives than now. The market has changed and that’s no longer viable.
So instead they offer subscription style gaming at a huge loss, make it a no Brainer to get until people are locked in and competitors have lost relavency. Then they’ll jack the prices sky high. Just like with TV streaming.

I run Mylar on my Xubuntu server to manage my comic collection. I found out recently that there’s a tool that can convert the embedded .jpgs to .webp to save space, but it only works on cbz files and not cbr (zipped vs rar for those who don’t know). I wanted to convert all of my cbr to cbz so that I could run the tool on all...
Someone new to Linux coming from Windows is not going to have a clue how to do it, and is likely to go back, all over one of the most basic operations a GUI should be able to do.
If they don’t want to learn the basics perhaps they should?
It’s fun in the same way losing a game is fun. Its fine in moderation, horrible in excess or when one sided. It’s still sonething you want to avoid, but not so unpleasant that I woukd want the game made of it to stop.
People who don’t respect a hard no are not cool. But I also feel as though I am missing out when I’m with someone who I am close enough to tickle, but they won’t tolerate any tickling.
I will preface this by saying I still love overwatch, and I think it can be a very enjoyable game if you enjoy competitive shooters and don’t give a shit about cosmetics. The game costs 10dollars every 3 months or so if you want all gameplay mechanics at release.
Ow1 was expected to be a huge failure, designed to recoup costs from a different project that was never released. Because of this it sold for a flat fee and gave out lootboxes like candy. It ended up being a massive smash hit and a few years in they announce ow2, just as some of the competitive limitations of the game started to show up.
Ow2 got delayed a bunch and ow1 stagnated without new content. When ow2 finally released it had a rocky start, it went f2p and it also didn’t deliver on some of the promises and marketing hype. Most of the beloved public faces of the devs left the company and They removed a number of features from the old game, and it was initially quite buggy although I think for the most part they have all been readilded by now (only thing i can think thats missing is lfg, which was frankly aweful in ow1). The cosmetics were given out much less freely and have absurd prices. They also made new heros cost money (although during their season of release you could grind abiut 20hrs to get it, or wait until the season ends and get it in a few hours). They made some controversial game design decisions including reducing the number of players per team by 1, and removing some cosmetic features that were mostly ignored in ow1.
The biggest of which was a pve mode, which some people extrapolated to believe was going to be a whole single player game. For some this was the primary reason to wait for ow2. This was heavily scaled back, although this season we are now seeing the remnants of what that looked like a few years late and without some of the biggest features (like skill trees).
All this happened while blizz was having a massive sexual misconduct scandal, which obviously garnered a lot of negative sentiment, but also made the lawyers lock down all communications (ow1 had a very open and informal set of communication with the community), shook up their dev teams, forced them to rename a character (he was named after one of the rapists) and made them the victim of several ddos attacks.
There’s also a bunch of stuff with the pro scene that I dont follow much, but essentially in ow1 they monopolized the pro scene which they had total control over, they forced teams to use country / city names instead of the standard egaming organization. This pro scene has, by all accounts been a big failure and now they are paying the engaging orgs to leave the league so they can kill it entirely.
I’ve had a great time playing some of the ‘smaller’ games lately: Dredge (adore this game so much), Dave the Diver, Cloudpunk, Stray, Octopath II, Observer....
Outerwilds is a beautiful game and quite short, try to go in as blind as possible. It’s space archaeology.
Gris is an art game that’s about 3hrs long. Very pretty, very zen.
Into the breach, is a puzzle game (chess vibes) where you are time travellers saving the world from insect aliens. has a long time to beat, but play sessions are fairly short. I think it’s a great game for when you are taking short breaks between something else. it might be a tad too on the roguelike side for you, but it’s primarily about solving puzzles.
Carrion is a puzzle-horror game that took me about 5hrs to beat, it’s extremely satisfying
Nauticrawl is a very esoteric game, you pilot a sub at the bottom of the ocean and have to learn from scratch how to pilot it. If you like doing stuff with no instructions you’ll enjoy it.
Not for broadcast is a shortish (~20hrs) game where you control a live action broadcast and get points for how well you do cuts… or censor people
Superliminal is a 3hr puzzle game that plays with size and perspective.
I think most people agree that not everyone should have kids, the problem comes with coming up with criteria, genocide is unfortunately far too tempting to ever give that power to any individual or organization imo. People are better at policing it than you think though, so long as they have easy, stigma free access to the tools to control it themselves.
other than landing on reddit a few times from searches I haven’t gone on reddit at all. I really miss a few communities, but I think it’s best to pull off the bandaid now.

That said I do think people get a little too excited about chronological order. I’m fine with any transparent algorithm, I think the old reddit “best” algorithm thatthe xkcd guy made is still a very good way to order comments and I liked the Q&A sort method in specific cases.
I think that’s valid, my point wasn’t that meta should do “best” sorting (it doesnt even make sense without downvotes) but rather there are good algorithms that aren’t just niave chronological order (which i think some people put into a pedestal of being “algorithmless” or pure). I quite like seeing the occasional post from my crazy uncle, but if it was chronological order it would just be a nonstop deluge of his posts with hardly any from the rest of my family.
Also consider many people use social media for many different things. To me Facebook market place is by far the dominant reason for ever using the platform and pretty much the only reason I still have an account. The sorting for market place shouldn’t be chronological, nor should the comments under it.
Reddit culture has really diluted over time (and I see the good parts of it alive here <3) but the one thing the reddit community still has is stubborn dedication to pet issues. Even though there is nothing that’ll get me to come back now, I’m glad reddit has finally found an issue they seemingly can’t trample over the users over.
Was digging through a project at work today where some guy in 2014 made 100+ commits in a single day and the only one that had a comment said “upgrading to v4.0”.
For real though most routers have QOS settings that will prioritize gaming packets over torrent packets (if your torrents are through a VPN, you can have it deprioritize the VPN as well). My media server can go crazy all day long without having an impact on my ping.
I just finished the game (40hrs) I would greatly recommend it.
It has some rough edges, it could benefit from a few QOL changes, and there’s also some weirdly useless mechanics (it rained almost every single day after unlocking the farm, making the watering can a bit of a joke, the sea people currency is far too easy to get) and the sleep gun is far too powerful compared to anything else.
That said it was a very enjoyable romp, I really liked all the pretty animations for upgrading stuff and the game had a lot of delightful one off mechanics which were fun.
