I think of the exact same thing when all these forks come up… Thorium, Vanadium, Bromite, Cromite and so on. Thorium incident is why I never trust these unnecessary forks. They remind me of shitty Linux distros and malware ridden 1337hax0r Windows modified ISOs.

Windows is not a benchmark. Windows has its exclusive non-gaming uses over Linux, and so Windows cannot be shit. What can be shit though is lack of being able to do a task (Linux/MacOS), or the bloatware and spyware (Windows/MacOS), or horrible performance (KDE), or garbage UX/UI (primitive DEs/WMs).

Pixel 6 series has the well known atrociously insecure fingerprint hardware. Pixels are incredibly insecure phones and have a lot of hardware QC issues.

The other possibilities can be that the pin screen does not jumble numbers, and your phone’s fingerprint smudges were used to open phone, or that you may have a weak pin, which I am not sure you would, considering you are on Lemmy’s privacy community.

Congress approves bill barring any president from unilaterally withdrawing from NATO (thehill.com)

Congress has approved legislation that would prevent any president from withdrawing the United States from NATO without approval from the Senate or an Act of Congress. The measure, spearheaded by Sens. Tim Kaine (D-Va.) and Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), was included in the annual National Defense Authorization Act, which passed out of...

OP, I have an entire guide for Linux/Windows computing, having been a couple decades old user of Windows. I am using Linux for the past 6+ years, and am using Debian as of now.

Start with Ubuntu LTS. Your priority is being able to search your solutions easily on AskUbuntu, StackOverflow or similar websites within the first few search results, and NOT needing to interact with and/or get harassed by the toxic evangelists in Linux community. I assume you already got a taste of that evangelism with the comments here.

Also, it is essential to require optimal corporate and community software support, and maximum stability/compatibility with WINE, without your system breaking upon automatic/random updates. This lessens the need for you to go around scrambling on the internet for solutions. Make sure to utilise whatever you need, Snaps, AppImages, regardless of what people say, to make your Linux life easier.

It is better for a Republican to accelerate the process that Democrats will eventually lead to, regardless of the quality of copium Americans smoke.

  • Gang up on a private place. Be straightforward, nothing hidden. Vomit it out. Tell others to vomit it out, no weaseling. Observe how everyone takes it, and how much they accept it.
  • See if things change.
  • Stick around if things change. Leave if they do not.

Extra tip: whoever weasels out, talk with the group without them, and salvage as many people out of the group as you can. Cancer cells, tumours and cysts have to be removed, else the whole body dies.

TheAnonymouseJoker, (edited )
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Yes.

Consider blocking Firebase domains in HOSTS file, which you can do in NetGuard or Invizible Pro, which you can supply your HOSTS file.

Not sure if Hagezi or such community made HOSTS rulesets carry Firebase domains in their anti-Google/BigTech part of domains.

There are no client side tools on Apple to accomplish this, unlike on any Android, no matter $50 or $5000.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

These are in progressing order of complexity.

  • Exodus database shows the “bad” domains an app connects to.
  • Warden on F-Droid does a similar but more comprehensive job for any installed app packages.
  • App Manager shows activities, services, receivers and providers apps utilise or have in a comprehensive manner.
TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

There will be GrapheneOS malicious actors and “security” clowns that will try to shit on F-Droid. Condemn them, boycott them, ignore them as much as you can. All they desire is to control the FOSS scene and/or to evangelise Big Tech corporate app stores.

We can think of solving FOSS community problems without their existence.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

There is a particular F-Droid critiquing “blog” from their camp that goes by the name Wonderfall.dev iirc. Privsec.dev advocates similar garbage and is also from their camp.

I speak from 5 years of experience and documentation of privacy/FOSS community and know the guts of it, with none to rival my perseverance in cleaning the privacy community’s gutters.

Signal Facing Collapse After CIA Cuts Funding (kitklarenberg.substack.com)

Also, I am somewhat concerned of allowing a dictatorship to just erase at it’s convenience a free and democratic country.

Last I checked, Russia did not erase any country. However, Blackrock, a private US firm, is acquiring and selling Ukraine’s land. You should be worried about US/NATO-backed Israel terrorist state that is genociding and erasing the country of Palestine.

And it creates a problem for us people from India, because we cannot start saying “south east Asians” or such terms because there are many countries in SE Asia. They should be called indigenous Americans or Native Americans, not Indians. And considering we are 1.5B people and everywhere in the world, we need to have a suitable identifier, where India is suffixed with -n.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Voting shows there is a possibility I am not 100% wrong.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

This is a very dumb argument. Using proper identifiers for citizens of different countries is not a matter of monopoly. Nobody calls the indigenous people of other countries “Indians”, so why should Native Americans be called “Indians”? Ever heard of Australian Aboriginals or Canadian Wet’suwet’en or other people being called “Indians”? This argument is so dumb, should Pakistanis start calling themselves Germans and Russians should start calling themselves Africans, because no monopoly?

America spans 2 whole fucking continents and islands surrounding them. India is not a continent.

Why didn't anyone remind me the dual booting exists?

I was talking to my dad yesterday and he talked about how he dual booted windows and Linux in his college days. I immediately left to download Ubuntu, I feel so dumb for forgetting it’s an option. TheAnonymouseJoker,

Buy a $30 SSD and put Windows on it. Boot to SSD when you want to use Windows, and put it down the booting order list in BIOS, so Linux always gets booted by default.

You will hear less about dual booting in Linux community because Windows loves to destroy GRUB bootloader, and also Windows is just becoming more and more annoying so there is a “nudging” or push to adopt Linux, forcibly or otherwise.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Not a luxury. A 128 GB SSD can be bought for about $25 (last year) or even cheaper now, and you buy once for many years, as home users write a lot less on SSDs.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Many ThinkPad models have a separate extra M.2 WWAN slot for 4G SIM modem, something you can check with respective models’ PSREF sheet. You can put either 128 or 256 GB (whatever specified) M.2 SSD of sizes either 2230 or 2242, which I was able to do on my L470 (a very modern laptop).

On a desktop, it is obviously easy, but on laptops, it depends, but you will find ThinkPads to be the most pro-consumer and pro-poweruser laptops.

TheAnonymouseJoker,
@TheAnonymouseJoker@lemmy.ml avatar

Windows 7 introducing that optional but pushed telemetry update, when 10 released in 2017. Also 10 shitting itself until a couple years when it stabilised meant Linux must be adopted. WINE also started supporting a lot of stuff, and Ubuntu 16.04 LTS was the first true viable mainstream Linux attempt in history.
