This, more that likely. Lightning has been around long before man poked out of his cave. And we know that back in the days of Vikings, pretty much anything that slithered was deemed a serpent.

From what I hear, Electric Eels does more than just tingly and ouchy stuff.

Starfield design lead says players are "disconnected" from how games are actually made: "Don't fool yourself into thinking you know why it is the way it is" (www.gamesradar.com)

apparently this is in response to a few threads on Reddit flaming Starfield—in general, it’s been rather interesting to see Bethesda take what i can only describe as a “try to debate Starfield to popularity” approach with the game’s skeptics in the past month or two. not entirely sure it’s a winning strategy,...

Gotta love Bethesda going all “You think you want it, but you really don’t.” Like Blizzard back in the days.

I have to admit, I find the entire thing immensely entertaining.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

It was about WoW Classic. Here’s the clip

But in the end WoW Classic did indeed become a thing.

In Bethesdas case, they’ve been going down this road for a while now and have just refused to listened to any criticism along the way.

Eventually that turned into F76 and Starfield.

The fact that they are telling people “they are wrong for finding the game boring” is funny. But that Beth won’t learn anything from this is just sad.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

And he’s talking about crops specifically grown for livestock. Of which there is quite a lot. Hell, even pets that aren’t considered live-stock outright, like Horses, consume tremendous amounts of feed that isn’t just by-products.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I can’t actually think of anything off the top of my head. After I stopped buying AAA titles from the obvious scummy companies, pretty much everything has been at least as good as expected.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Hard to say. I doubt it though.

As insincere/foolish as our politicians can be, they do seem to take that part somewhat serious.

Like, Scientology isn’t recognized as a religion and such. The list of religions outside of the abrahamic ones is surprisingly short.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

It looks like Bethesdas Fallout.

Hopefully the writing will be better.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Not trying to get up your hopes. That would just be cruel of me.

But TES is still their flagship IP. It’s likely to get a more “cautious” treatment than both Starfield and Fallout.

Starfield was Bethesdas version of “ambitious”. And Fallout is just a testing grounds for whatever is trending.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Yes, they’ve been quite clear about not wanting to use anything else.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Just from a quick search about the case, it seems to hold very little water.

Hell, it’s already been dismissed once.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Nah, there’s just not enough of actual old titles that could do with a remake or remaster.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Just got ‘Metal: Hellsinger’ It’s pretty fun take on the Doom-like Shooter genre.

Also got ‘Dredge’. Very chill, while being a creepy lovecraftian fishing game.

Both games are really good, if a bit short. But for the discounted price, the length of them is just fine.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Don’t worry too much about it. It’s part of the Role-Playing charm.

After my own first couple of playthroughs with “serious characters” I just started screwing around with fun builds.

The “Double Chaos” sorceror is fun and stupid way to complete the game. Sometimes I’m a doomsday machine in battle, others times I’m a sheep…

Anyone knows about calm Windows games with 1-finger touch screen support?

What I am searching for is for games that support touch screens and can be played with 1 finger / one hand. No action games with fake joysticks on the screen, just games that work with a single finger or at least one hand while lying in bed and trying to wind down. One very good example is Civilization V, which has a dedicated...

It’s times like these where flash games are missed a little extra.

Armorgames.com had a ton of fun games that would have been perfect for pads and such.

Overcoming a challenge is fun.

Faydaikin,

The old landlines had a ton of smart features. It’s just that very few of us knew about them and thus they went unused.

I miss the old pirated XP. Stripped and streamlined for your convenience.

Steam Deck Owners: What’s been your favorite game that you first discovered on Steam Deck and now you can’t seem to put down?

Looking for those games that you may have heard about but never tried until you got a Deck. Or old games on systems you never had that you’re trying for the first time. Or new AAA games that just released in the last year or two that you picked up for the first time specifically to play on Steam Deck and have kept you glued to...

It’s the constant attempt of our government to appease the various health organizations (and other complainy-pants) by taking the least effective route towards nothing, that might make them “look good”.

At the end of the day, a ton of the tax money they get to play around with comes directly from alcohol and tobacco. So our politicians have no interest in actually doing anything serious about it.

But if jacking up the prices a bit again and again and changing official age restrictions gets them a pat on the head from ‘Kraftens Bekæmpelse’ (The Cancer Society), they’ll keep doing just that and nothing else.

You just reminded me of that time when young right-wing men were complaining that women wouldn’t date them when they found out about their political stance.

It was one of the funniest things I’ve read in “the news” in a while.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Depends what you mean by “commitment”.

Some think it means marriage and children. Which is understandable being hesitant about. Both are big steps that require some “scrying” into the future.

But I don’t have the impression there’s as much of a problem with simply commiting to a relationship and being a couple.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

It’s dependent on a few different things. The country you live in and such.

Some years back there was a wave of ‘catfishing’ stories in the media. “Get married and lose 49% of everything you own” basically.

That’ll make anyone hesitant to sign a marriage contract.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Yup, If we could do away with all negative economic aspects of weddings and marriage, I doubt that kind of commitment would be a problem for most men.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Didn’t hear about that one. Funny stuff

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I don’t know about Game Of The Year. But Zelda definitely deserves a few catagories under it’s belt.

My money is on BG3 for Goty. It addressed a ton of the complaints there had been circulating about modern games for the last 10 years.

You could just say ‘American.’

It’s only ‘Cops’ when it’s inland, they call it ‘Military’ when they impose outside their own borders.

But it’s all the same in the end.

So it’s both cute AND efficient? What an amazing creature.

Palestine Children’s Relief Fund: Israel Is Threatening to Bomb Gaza’s Only Pediatric Cancer Unit --- [video, 33 min + transcript] (www.democracynow.org)

As the U.N. secretary-general repeats his call for an immediate ceasefire, the death toll in Gaza has topped 10,000, including 4,000 children. We speak to an American doctor who just left Gaza and the founder of the Palestine Children’s Relief Fund, which runs the only pediatric cancer unit in Gaza....

If Israel keeps this shit up it’ll be an apt enough reference eventually.

Starfield group fixing Bethesda's bugs say their job is tough as mods feel an afterthought (www.eurogamer.net)

“What’s more frustrating for those working on SCP, and the wider Starfield modding community, is how difficult it is to work with Starfield’s code without official modding tools and support. This isn’t helped by the delayed mod tools from Bethesda, which the company says are coming at some point next year.”

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Which is weird when you think about how dependent Bethesda is on the Modding Community.

Are people still buying these?

I get Blizzard games can be hard to quit, but damn, at least give them a reason to make a new base-game.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Aside from the point that SH:A is just another over-monetized scam, I am quite interested in how much money that first stream garnered them. Because the more I read about it it seems like everyone and their grandmother bought into it to try it out.

I am sincerely hoping that isn’t the case.

Any word can be used in a derogatory fashion. I’d say the non-binary community knows this better than anyone.

Like the word “Gay” has been used in a quite derogatory fashion for many years now. It’s original meaning, the people it’s being used to refer to and how it’s being used are, objectively, three very different things.

Deeming singular words as slurs or hate-speech, in and of themselves, is by far the most idiosyncratic way to get around an actual problem. I’d say the ‘Intent’ behind it matters more. And the ‘Why’ of it all.

Regardless, I don’t think dear old Elon is in a position to call-out anyone for anything at this point in time.

angermcs, to firefox
@angermcs@hachyderm.io avatar

Hilariously the thing that got me to go back to @firefox was Google making adblocking suck on chromium based browsers and trying to force their (repeatedly) spy-ware filled ads (particularly on youtube) to be displayed. Like you spent how many billions trying to make chrome "the thing" and now you are destroying any goodwill.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Just means we’re on equal footing with google. Let the chaos commence!

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

It was only one for me, Baldur’s Gate 3.

So yeah, very much a matter of opinion.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

The question is ‘Do they want to keep throwing money at techs in the hope of forcing people to watch their ads?’

At best, people will keep finding ways to get around the ads and YT will have wasted a ton of money on nothing.

At worst, a bunch of people will abandon YT all together. And YT will have wasted a ton of money getting rid of them.

Both options seem self-defeating and wasteful.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I don’t think we should underestimate the savvy programmers out there, who are just as fed up with ads as the rest of us.

And at this point, most of the cousins who don’t know how to update their adblocker are already there. It’s a matter of time. YT won’t keep pouring money into this. Just long enough to the “balance the books.” When the ‘number of viewed ads’ start slowing down again and they’ve hit their max viewership, they’ll call off the hounds.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Plus, it’s likely to evolve into a “less ads” deal eventually.

The one constant is that there’s never enough money to satisfy corporate needs.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I’ll make a wild assumption and say that the people that made the adblockers might also be using them.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

Most people do. But it’s not enough.

Even if all their users payed, it wouldn’t be enough.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I’m gonna guess some are quite old. We’ve been sending shit into space since the 1920s.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

I don’t think anyone should take Mr. Garrison’s arc to heart. They did kinda point out in an earlier episode that Mr. Garrison isn’t what he thinks he is. He’s not gay, trans or anything else in that direction.

He’s messed up. And that’s all he is and all he’s supposed to be. At least that’s my take-away from the show.

Faydaikin,
@Faydaikin@beehaw.org avatar

For sure. I was mostly hoping that people don’t feel like the show makes a personal comparison to them.

The masses, on the other hand, require disturbingly little to push them over the edge. As you pointed out with Jaws and Silence. Hell, the amount of people that can’t distinguish between actor and character is astounding.
