Agreed, hopefully i2p adoption ramps up.

For my work machine I’ve got to use macOS. These connections were seen with the Little Snitch app. Highly recommend it.

Nice, would also recommend Safing Portmaster for Linux, if you’ve not tried it yet. A great FOSS tool for managing network connections.

I did see a reddit thread briefly talking about this, but wasn’t sure how accurate it was. Thanks!

Awesome, much appreciated

Fresh install of LibreWolf and it’s made a bunch of outbounds. Some seems related to it auto-installing uBlock. Others similar to default FF.

No update in over a year. Is the project still maintained?

Shouldn't browsers protect what users write from being seen by the website (like customer support chats) before hitting send? Would it be difficult to implement?

I’m sure its common knowledge by now that whatever you write in text boxes on customer support chats can be seen by whoever is on the other side, without or before hitting send. Don’t you think that’s a breach of privacy?! I imagine it isn’t too difficult to implement a fix for it: The browser (like Firefox) could choose...

Yes, but more relevant now than then, no?

Beeper is just a reskinned Element messenger. The devs behind it are also the ones who built all the bridges everyone uses.

Beeper users who message other Matrix/Beeper users it should be fully e2ee as it’d be no different from using Element or another Matrix client.

But, it would be nice to get more clarification at a high-level as to how they handle the message relaying.

Replace the native ad-riddled platform with another?

I must give props to Brave Search for its AI summarizer, which suprisingly does a pretty good job at using high quality sources from its index to give you a brief synopsis of the query.

Kagi isn’t FOSS or privacy focused

Have you had a merge conflict yet? A breeze to manage with GH Desktop + VSC

Yea, and sadly archive.is couldn’t bypass it either

Because you can still gain a general understanding of its core message…

Should I convince my mother to switch to ProtonMail?

Hey, My mother is a non-technical person, she’s a sole trader. She has been using Google services for many years and is probably used to them. A few months ago, I was able to convince her to set up an online password manager and calendar (up until now, she had been saving all her passwords in a handy paper calendar)....

Considering PM is basically a honeypot at this point (can’t trust they’re not monitoring with a gag order preventing warrant canary), I wouldn’t recommend them even to my enemies.

Tutanota. Or any other e2ee email provider that still has a good reputation of not spying on behalf of a gov request.

glowie,
@glowie@infosec.pub avatar

For sure, email is an insecure means of communication. But, that wasn’t the request of the OP. They’re not asking for an e2ee messenger recommendation, but thoughts on PM. And I provided an honest suggestion that they simply cannot be trusted, regardless of whether or not they complied because “it’s the law”.

PSA: Do not enable URL thumbnail generation in Element

As I noted within my post, #[email protected] (alternate link), URL thumbnail generation in Element is an enormous privacy, and security vulnerability. Thumbnails are generated server-side, regardless of E2EE settings. What this means is that the URLs that one sends would be leaked out of your encrypted chats to the server. Here...
