Probably through some software from TopazLabs found on the high seas.

But life is boring without music. Anyway I try to buy my music through Bandcamp whenever I can, and stream it from my own server.

And it also pushed the development of RISC-V forward, so that’s nice.

I prefer fewer but organic content than bot-submitted content that no one will participate in.

Only when you put the Spanish Inquisition.

Doesn’t matter, I’m still happy the platform is there and the users are contributing.

But ultimately this will only strenghten Microsoft’s moat on AI, which is bad for everyone.

It’d be really nice if the Bergamot translation project that Mozilla uses becomes big enough that it ends up being used in other apps as well. That’d be cool if you could get the engine as a mobile app and the apps could simply send a local translation request to it.

I think most people don’t mind the use of emojis, it’s the abuse they don’t like. Spamming 😭😭😭😭 is annoying.

When used sparingly and to convey a specific emotion that wouldn’t translate well only using text they’re useful.

I backup the videos I transcoded myself on Google Drive (encrypted, Google can’t see the content), since I buy the extra storage anyway.

Bilingual MKVs (English and French (preferably Canadian French when available)) are kinda rare online, and they help me save some storage instead of having two copies of the same movie for each language.

A warp doesn’t technically lose the information, it merely displaces it. A good blur algorithm on the other hand will lead to loss of information.

mp3,

Most people won’t want the 64GB model since the eMMC storage is much slower…

mp3,

And they won’t bother, they’ll just look for a Steam Deck with an NVMe drive already.

I ask ChatGPT how to do something with ffmpeg when I’m stuck lol

I’ll keep sideloading if they don’t allow F-Droid, NewPipe and LibreTube on the Play Store.

I am, my wallet isn’t.

Decent YouTube client?

I’m looking for an app to browse YouTube using multiple accounts. It has to be convenient to switch between multiple accounts, and keep them separate. I’ve struggled to find a YT client that does this well, most of them seem to advertise “Use YouTube without an account”. I’d look on the app store but frankly the play...

Most open-source clients will by default have the option to block ads, which goes directly against the TOS and will be a quick way to get their API access shut down. This is why most open-source clients will avoid using the API in the first place, since they’ll get shut down. This means that connecting to a YouTube account is not an option.

As well as some custom syntax that isn’t covered for spoilers ie:

<span style="color:#323232;">::: spoiler LABEL
</span><span style="color:#323232;">HIDDEN TEXT
</span><span style="color:#323232;">:::
</span>

Sadly, not all Lemmy clients support it yet, so be careful with spoilers.

We’ve yet to see any regulatory actions with real consequences, so yeah I doubt it.

Diversifying our energy needs in case of a crisis isn’t a bad idea, but we do need to prioritize renewable energy.

But then you lose RCS.

Sadly you need to reach out to the caller ID app developers and ask them to remove your info.

I wouldn’t trust The Gray Zone to be a reliable source.

Feel free to correct the Wikipedia article about the website then if you consider it incorrect.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Grayzone

web.archive.org/…/.premium-grayzone-genocide-deni…

My point still stand that the website isn’t a reliable source and goes against this community rules (Please only post links to actual news sources, no tabloid sites, etc).

I kinda blame Apple on this one, they’re the one forcing all these kind of insecure workaround in order to gatekeep their platform, ultimately it’s more about their bottomline than privacy.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

I prefer to own the physical, and make a DRM-free digital copy for myself. Best of both worlds: I own a physical copy they cannot revoke and that I can transcode again if needed, and I can carry a digital copy that I can watch anywhere on my own terms.

mp3,
@mp3@lemmy.ca avatar

For books, not really yeah… I’ll find a DRM-free copy elsewhere.

Do you access the music directly through a network share, or is it exposed through a web platform (ex: Plex, Jellyfin, etc)?

If the former then you could use the software through that network share, it should be able to handle those as if the file were local. For the later you may have to retrieve the files to modify their tags locally then reupload the modified version.

Also keep in mind that some platform like Plex will build its own metadata cache from the audio file metadata to speed up things, so you may have to run some process within that platform to tell it to reanalyze the modfified files.

Also you don’t need to buy multiple electric brushes, the replacement heads often if not always comes with colored rings you can put on. You can just have a different head for each person that you swap when needed.

I buy a new pack and replace all the heads every season.

improving the security and privacy of mobile devices, not being anti-Google.

Talk about an oxymoron…

Depends at which level the ban occurred. If you were banned from a community then you need to reach out to the mods of that community with another account and ask why you were banned, or if it’s an instance ban then you need to reach out to the instance admin(s). Next step will be to ask how you can get a second chance.

I keep my subscription proxied through Piped, and I back it up when I change my subs. Also if you create an account on one of the Piped instance you get an RSS feed of your subscriptions.

I bought the 2TB package because my wife needs the extra features for her side-business/hobby, like the appointment slots, no time-limit on Google Meet, etc.

And since we already use Google for most of our stuff it was the rational choice.

Maybe we’ll eventually see a version of FreeTube running on Tauri one day (one can dream).

The proper emailing etiquette is to CC people who don’t need to take action (informational) while those who are emailed directly are expected to do something. At least that’s how I operate.

Network effect will likely be stronger to the masses than the minority who will be annoyed by the ads enough to leave the platform.

Not exactly up to date on the subject, will there be an option to pay to avoid ads?

I’m seriously considering giving up my gaming desktop in a year or two and switch to a Steam Deck instead of building a new battlestation. I’ll likely keep my desk and get a docking station for it.

The fact that it’s open and let me run games outside of Steam (I have many games bought on GOG) is a major selling point. Plus almost all of the apps I rely on are available in Flatpak format, which should work great when I’m not gaming.

There’s the web-based MapComplete that could help you update stuff on-the-go based on a specific theme.
