OK, good for them I guess? But the regional language and culture thing is a much different and bigger issue in Spain.

Anyway, speakers of regional languages are not repressed in France. There are bilingual schools, newspapers and cultural associations which are partially funded by the state. Things might not be perfect, but I’ve never heard of anyone having to hide their regional origin for fear of repercussions, or discriminated against because of it. Those are things I personally experienced in Australia BTW.

There’s such a thing as cultural heritage. Revolutionaries tried to do away with it but it didn’t take. Most of them were pagan holidays which were co-opted by the church anyway.

If you buy the game on the app store you can only play it on Macs. It’s an issue if you own both a MacBook and a gaming PC/Steam Deck.

On Steam you get all the supported platforms + (most likely) save syncing.

What’s the antithesis of Arrested Development, Firefly or The Big Lebowski? Those may never have ‘found their audience’ but over time seemed to recognised by everyone. What are the deep cuts that you liked but it feels like everyone has completely forgotten they even existed.

Binged it last year for the first time, it holds up very well. SFX are obviously a bit dated after The Expanse and whatnot, but it’s a really good show even if the last season and finale are a bit underwhelming.

EDIT: I’m talking about the remake, not the original series which I haven’t watched.

A concert is a “live music performance in front of an audience”. It’s a type of show. A dude with a guitar playing songs in a bar is a concert. Lots of professional artists play in smaller venues like bars in a dedicated room, and that’s the best kind of concerts IMO.

Because Cobol is mainly used in an enterprise environment, where they most likely already run Java software which interfaces with the old Cobol software. Plus modern Java is a pretty good language, it’s not 2005 anymore.

Funny anecdote about FP readers: got an XPS 13 for work. At first I tried to make do with Windows, and everytime I tried to register my fingerprints, the laptop rebooted instantly. Then I got fed up jumping through hoops to set up my workflow, installed Ubuntu, installed the FP reader driver, and it worked like a charm.

As for gaming, I finally got rid on Windows on my gaming PC (AMD GPU), and all my games work very nicely (I don’t play multiplayer games). Most problems were fixed by selecting another proton version through Steam, biggest issue I had was manually updating the fucking Ubisoft launcher thing for AC Syndicate.

For development Unix-like OSes are far superior to Windows. Macs mostly work OOTB but are far too expensive if you need anything more than the base config. As for me, never had issues with my mic and webcam under Ubuntu and even Arch, pipewire Just Works in my experience.

I guess you only use ssh, docker or k8s? For serious software development, integration between the windows host and the Linux VM is far from seamless, or was last time I checked. Anyway, when all the software you use is unix-first, why bother jumping through hoops to make it run under an inferior OS?
