That’s actually more or less how it used to work. You’d plug your computer directly to the internet and connect that way. You’d have to dial into the internet. Constantly being online was a novelty. Especially when you paid by the minute. But then people started having more than one PC and thus home routers became a thing.

I always wondered why Steam or GOG didn’t try to branch out into Android gaming. There are several games that are available on PC and Android. That would have been a great way, especially for these friendly companies, to gain a foothold.

I used to play Doom with keyboard only. Right hand on the arrow keys, while the left hand shot with Ctrl, ran with Shift, activated with Space and toggled strafing with Alt. I even played Descent with the arrow keys. It took me hours to get the perfect keybindings for that one down. I think I flew up and down with A and Z.
Jedi Knight was the first game I played with mouselook. Not with WASD, but with the numpad. I thought I was a genius for discovering that. I put my main force powers around that and probably switched weapons with the mouse wheel.

In German people tend to increase “only” (das einzige). As in, they say something is the “onliest” (das einzigste). It’s usually a good indicator of someone’s education.
In many regions it is common to do comparisons with “as” (wie). As in “My dog is bigger as yours” instead of “My dog is bigger than yours”. The most infuriating thing about this is that most people doing that mistake don’t even acknowledge that it is one. At least people who say “onliest” can be convinced that it is wrong.
Technically not an error but still annoying is to append an apostrophe and an s to a name to indicate the genitive. Like in “Anna’s food is good”. In German that should be written as “Annas Essen ist gut”. But due to many people making the same mistake (I guess also because we’re used to it from English sentences) it has been allowed to use an apostrophe. So in that case I’m just a grumpy old guy.

For years there was the “Phantom”, a notorious criminal, haunting all of Europe.
