"Free speech absolutist" allegedly fires employee for raising security concerns.
Apparently Elon's version of free speech doesn't extend to employees who raise concerns about information security:
"Alan Rosa, who was Twitter’s global head of information security, filed the lawsuit late on Tuesday in New Jersey federal court, alleging breach of contract, wrongful termination and retaliation, among other claims. X Corp did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
"Rosa claims that late last year, after Musk acquired the company, he was told to cut his department’s budget for physical security by 50%...
"Rosa says he objected because the cuts would put Twitter at risk of violating a $150m settlement it entered into earlier in 2022 with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), which claimed Twitter had misused users’ personal information. The agreement required Twitter to implement privacy and information security controls to protect confidential data.
"He was fired days after raising those concerns, according to the lawsuit. Rosa is seeking unspecified compensatory and punitive damages, and legal fees."
Paris mayor quits X platform, calling it a 'gigantic global sewer'
Paris Mayor Anne Hidalgo on Monday announced she was quitting the X platform formerly known as Twitter, calling it a "gigantic global sewer" that was "destroying our democracies" by spreading abuse and misinformation.
The same day that Elon Musk fired the entire Twitter team concerned with fighting election disinformation, he also endorses a post where people are being encouraged to vote for the far-right German AFD party. The AFD thanked him for his endorsement and for disbanding the team that was fighting election disinformation.
#Elon says a lot of things. Whether he follows through is anyone’s guess. A lot of users have left #Twitter / #X, and charging those who remain may hurt ad revenue. Also, the hate speech problem isn’t due to bots. It’s a human problen that’s a consequence of not doing moderation. And, it’s a problem that #Musk insists doesn’t exist; he’s suing the CCDH for insisting he does. https://www.axios.com/2023/09/19/musk-x-twitter-charge-all-users-monthly-subscription-fees
Taking the form of an extended mission message to earth from an intergalactic exploratory mission, Becky Chambers' #scifi novella, To be Taught if Fortunate (2019), is a quick read. While lacking narrative fireworks its a pleasing matter-of-fact description of space exploration & the ethical dilemmas it will encounter. While ultimately rather melancholy, it is an interesting afternoon's read if you like procedural #speculativefiction @bookstodon
I suppose there is also Ken McLeod, Dorris Lessing or Le Guin.
But this is a hanfull of writers. I've always thought modern #sci-fi is coloured this way partly because early US sci-fi became popular during and after the great depression
But the remorseless backdrop of ultra liberal capitalism can be damaging. Just look what it has done to #Musk.
Prominent "free-speech absolutist" threatens to sue Jewish anti-hate group because it engaged in free speech he didn't like.
"Elon Musk has threatened to sue the Anti-Defamation League after accusing the civil rights group that campaigns against antisemitism and bigotry of trying to “kill” his X social media platform.
"The owner of X, formerly known as Twitter, said the ADL was trying to shut down his company by 'falsely accusing it and me of being antisemitic'."
If your list of enemies includes the ADL, then there's a more-than-reasonable chance that you're an anti-semite.
"How #Musk, #Thiel, #Zuckerberg, and #Andreessen—Four Billionaire Techno-Oligarchs—Are Creating an Alternate, Autocratic Reality" — book excerpt from "The End of Reality: How Four Billionaires are Selling a Fantasy Future of the #Metaverse, #Mars, and #Crypto," by Jonathan Taplin
"Instead of unifying humanity, consciousness fractures it. Some build rockets for Mars, others die in a cult for a UFO hidden behind a comet. Both are thinking about the future of humanity, but they have wildly different views about what that future ought to be and how to get there."
@islieb Kommt der Roman noch in die #isLiebApp? Oder anders: Warum ist der schon bei #musk, aber nicht als exclusive Erstveröffentlichung in der App? 😢
@PattyHankins@thedanielsgenealogy@AncestryRoads I am fine with people using whatever platform suits them. I wish the #genealogy community was more active here. I don't use Facebook much these days---but it still is the easiest for me with groups with genealogical focus. I left the #deadbirdsite which I did very much like before #musk took over. I would rather have a smaller audience that is peaceful, kind and not monetized and exploitative. I am happy to make a small contribution each month to help my instance. I am just not interested in more time sucks exploiting me. The lack of algorithms, ads and the democracy here suits me. #genedons@genealogy
If there are incriminating DMs in Trump's Twitter Account, here is how the government would know:
A cooperating witness turned over incriminating DMs.
Also nobody knows what the DOJ knows which is one reason investigations are done away from the public view.
So if you try to suppress something that the DOJ knows exists . . . ding.
Similarly, they'd have reason to think someone else was putting out some of his key Tweets concerning the leadup to January 6 from evidence already uncovered.

Certainly not a fan (more like lesser of evils) regarding Meta and Microsoft, but I would like them to take legal action against Musk's new X.
Since high school in the 1980s I have been fan of the Los Angeles based punk band "X" and it would be some kind of wonderful if they could find a way to sue Musk and X the corporation also ;-)

Like I get there are several reasons people remain. It just feels kinda weird to listen to a podcaster or youtuber go off on twittter, yet they still use twitter exclusively.
