Literature is not a popular contest. A lot of great books would have been buried if we let review sites take control. Not to mention the amount of astroturfing and trolling tainting the “reviews”.
Readers who like a certain genre tend to read multiple books from the game genre, so these authors should be more like friends instead of competitors, which makes this betrayal harder to understand.
What a shame. One thing I noticed on Twitter is that a lot of Japanese men have sympathy for Trump. What I did not expect is they really fell into QAnon when given the opportunity.
I use Firefox and uBlock Origin. Not sure what kind of experience anyone else is having with YouTube, but recently my home page has been empty because I “don’t have watch history turned on”. Okay, fine. I won’t be able to browse suggested videos, and I’ll spend less time on their platform....
Even though I have premium, YouTube recently has been very hit and miss. Live streams keep buffering for no reason. Some videos failed to play and needed a refresh.
Just odd behaviour all around. In their battle to take out adblockers they destroyed the average viewer experience as well.
Agreed with the tone of the videos being off and I don’t like both creators.
On the other hand, there is definitely some weird accounting going on at the charity. They are supposed to report all expenses which they didn’t. They also didn’t provide any banking statement that show the money were there all the time. If the fund is misused and then repaid later, they were still misused.
I feel like they are more dangerous than oligarchs.
Look at Russian oligarchs. They don’t try to change the world. They know they are not welcomed so just buy properties at London, buy yachts, etc. and then enjoy what they have.
Tech libertarians seem to view themselves as savior of the world and attempts to change it (for the worse).
Take the streetlights. Turning them off had saved the city about $1.25 million. What had not made the national news stories was what had happened while those lights were off. Copper thieves, emboldened by the opportunity to work without fear of electrocution, had worked overtime scavenging wire. Some, the City Council learned, had even dressed up as utility workers and pried open the boxes at the base of streetlights in broad daylight. Keeping the lights off might have saved some money in the short term, but the cost to fix what had been stolen ran to some $5 million.
That is my observation as well. When it really comes to personal liberty they don’t really care. Remember that libertarian tech bro like Peter Thiel (who is gay btw) somehow thought the world is “too woke” and continues to fund conservative politicians taking away gay rights.
Yea, Atlas Shrugged really presented a very naive and simplistic world view that cannot work in real life. The capitalists all fuck off to build a city? Who is going to build them? Right. The workers. The workers that they despise.

I really appreciate @firefox adding the ability to enable custom search engines for searching with the address bar. As someone who just types my searches direct to the address bar, not having the option to use my search engine of choice was a problem that's now solved! #Firefox
You should care if you follow any YouTube creators. It is the biggest topic right now on YouTube. Everyone is affected because lazy creators and content farms stealing other people’s work is such a big problem on YouTube.
Feels like a split is for the best for both parties. One can just freely do what they want to do while the other can keep the rules which are important for other parts.
This is a bit of a vent, I’m sorry in advance. I’m still a little bit triggered honestly. If this type of post doesn’t fit for this community I apologize, I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this....
It is very important for us to “NOT” support any films, shows, games, and whatever form of art and entertainment that tries to use AI to replace human creators.
Greed is going to tear apart every part of society unless we stop it.
No one is talking about translation and subtitles.
I am very aware of machine translation, probably more than most people in here. In fact, machine translation started much earlier than this AI craze…like they started massively using machine translation for a decade already. That’s why some of the Netflix translation to foreign language is so shit.
The thing is no one is outraged about machine translation because it is not a primary creative process. This is very different from acting, voice acting, illustration, creative writing, etc. that people care about.
You might have misunderstood. I absolutely understand good translation is art.
I am also disappointed that they are being replaced by machine. There are so many times when I would walk into a movie and notice the subtitle is shit, and then spent the whole time thinking how I would translate that part instead of watching the movie.
The above is just me stating why many people forgot about translators.
Narration is also an art. A good narrator can make the script much more engaging than say…someone just reading from the script. I have seen the difference first hand and it is substantial.
Why do you say this is blind ranting? I have listed reasons that I think the situation is unacceptable. My arguments are all against the talking points, not the poster. You are being very rude and making the discussion toxic.
Responding to your enjoyment point:
AI will replace human creators not exactly because it’s better, but because it’s cheaper and more scalable, which means they will be adopted in this neoliberal society.
We are already seeing this in mobile games in China where developers use AI generated art.
I have commented many times in favour of labour rights over capital and I have clearly explained why I said what I said above. Check my comment history if you don’t believe it. Stop misinterpreting my intention.
I used to be able to download the available pages from books on Google Books with pysheng(3) and/or getxbook, but neither of them seem to work any more. On Firefox I can go into “More Information>Media Info” and download page images one by one, but this is slow and cumbersome. Any recommendations for a replacement?
