Unforeseen,

I could both taste and hear this comment

Unforeseen,

TIL been here daily for some time now and didn’t know that.

Unforeseen,

Joplin is already mentioned but I’d point out it can import those 15k recipes. You do have to do a notebook at a time though (that took me a bit as I had over 300).

There are plugins for various functionality like OCR and hotfolders (auto import). I hear the webclipper isn’t great but I’ve never used it in my workflow in Evernote or Joplin.

I finally bailed after 13+ years of Evernote about a year ago to Joplin and am very happy overall.

Unforeseen,

When initializing a new array, it’s a (usually optional) process of zeroing out the newly added disks. Sometimes it’s required as part of calculating parity across the array (redundancy data).

Unforeseen,

My dark mode eyes find this very acceptable

Unforeseen,

As someone who works in the edge networking side of things you are not being paranoid. Logging all web activity is extremely common. Some industries require it even if the powers that be in the company don’t want it, and it might surprise you on which verticals require it (education providers are a good example).

Unforeseen,

You and me baby we ain’t nothin’ but mammals

Unforeseen,

I have never felt a picture encapsulate a moment I have lived like this one

Unforeseen,

I like to call this being talked at

Unforeseen,

There was a big uproar on reddit at the time, but like all things people get complacent and bored and don’t actually go through with anything they said they would do that would inconvenience them.

Unforeseen,

Augh please dont massacre my boy.

Unforeseen,

And also not updating them when things change. The recovery process for a database changes considerably once it’s involved in replication, which one client found out the hard way.

Unforeseen,

Know a manager of an oil rig.

Away from friends and family for months at a time, extremely dangerous, 12+ hour shifts, constantly dealing with issues with staff and all around miserable and stressful. Said he wished he had gotten into literally anything else.

Unforeseen,

Some of the premium ones are self heating so you just can add bottled water

Unforeseen,

I use NoMachine as well as it has been the most responsive solution for me.

My biggest problem that I finally figured out was that NoMachine was attaching to a VNC console instead of creating its own display when I was using it with Unraid VMs (KVM)

What hobbies help you minimize or avoid navigating commercialism?

By commercialism, I’m aiming at a mix of spending a lot and sifting through bloated business models (e.g. this or that accessory/equipment, microtransactions, etc.). Feel like many can relate to this sort of commercial fatigue, and yet it creeps even into hobbies where one tries to unwind....

Unforeseen,

Not yet but apparently it’s coming. Unfortunately for now you have to save it and check back manually

Unforeseen,

Yeah both the monitors and computers will consume a bit. Even a modern PC when turned off is in a type of deep sleep mode, for stuff like wake on LAN.

The chargers will hardly even register anything, except maybe in some rare case where its a special one that is doing some sort of passive listening (like the PC’s)

Unforeseen,

Yep cooking bacon slowly is the holy grail of perfectly cooked bacon

Unforeseen,

I learned way more history from video games then I ever learned from school

Unforeseen,

You should cut off the hotdog anuses before you cook them.

Unforeseen,

Hahaha no, I was making a reference to this Oatmeal comic:

Unforeseen,

That is insane the amount of info given. I had no idea. Thanks for the website

Unforeseen,

I learned most of my Linux skills by starting with Gentoo in the early 2000s after only using Unix and redhat since about '96.

If someone really truly wants to learn Linux (sysadmin types) I tell them to start with Gentoo, not Mint. You don’t learn anything when everything has been dumbed down or obfuscated from you.

I couldn’t have asked for a better distro to learn on, and I’ve been thinking about going back.

Unforeseen,

I have this too, I figure it’s just a visual / cache related bug. I don’t bother reupvoting, if I come back later or stop and restart the app it’s there.

It even happens with the same post, like if you upvote from the feed and then open the post it doesn’t show as upvoted.

Unforeseen,

Lmao those are some sharp edges

Unforeseen,

Or you could brush your teeth at work and get paid at the same time 😁

Are we living in a baby universe that looks like a black hole to outsiders? (lemmy.sdf.org)

Our Universe appears to be expanding and cooling, having originated some 13.8 billion years ago in a hot Big Bang. However, it’s plausible that what we see from inside our Universe is simply the result of being inside a black hole that formed from some parent Universe. If the black holes that form in our cosmos give birth to...

Unforeseen,

Not OP but I use yt-dlp on a cron schedule to run once a day, and just have all the channels I want to follow in a text file that it processes. Been using this for years now (YouTubedl before this) with no issues.

I’ve recently gone a step further and have it post a discord message once it’s done with the download details for the day.

github.com/yt-dlp/yt-dlp

Unforeseen,

Neither existed in Europe back then. I’m not sure if there is another reference to that exact date I’m missing

Unforeseen,

Yeah seen that first and then realized PEI was missing too. Dubious free Islands.

Unforeseen,

To me that’s just less stress as I don’t have to worry about spilling anything again.

Unforeseen,

Shipbreaker and Valhiem, both I’ve played before on PC but loving playing from bed lol. I’m also downloading Witcher 3 right now as I was never able to get into it on PC and figured I’d try giving it a go here. Considering trying no man’s sky as well as seeing it pop up a lot, another one I bought years ago and couldn’t get into on PC.

Unforeseen,

Probably the delusion that any windows admin can manage it if it has a graphical UI.

I’ve run into this several times

Unforeseen,

Do those have Ads though? I guess I just assumed they did which is why I haven’t bothered. I have a lifetime plex sub if it matters

Unforeseen,

Ahh ok thanks, appreciate the reply.

I think our definition is probably the same, I’m just very anti-ad, the idea of being continually manipulated to consume rubs my fur backwards. I’m fine paying for ad free though.

Unforeseen,

I hear you, I’m Gen X so grew up on cable tv. But I was also a punk rocker as a kid. As I age I find myself increasingly realigning with the values of my youth lol

Giving up on selfhosted email / Any sane email setups?

So I’ve been running self-hosted email using Mailu for a couple of months (after migrating out of Google Workspace). Today it turned that although my server seems to be capable of sending and receiving emails, it also seems to be used by spammers. I’ve stumbled upon this accidentally by looking through logs. This seems to...

Unforeseen,

I’ve also done the same, it’s been great.

Unforeseen,

They have, hundreds of them, the services exploded understandably with LLMs. Just search for watermark remover.

Unforeseen,

Bro was just looking for tadpoles
