What if your nature is in constant problem solving mode, my life and work revolve around solving problems so it’s a natural neurological pathway. Should someone like that work overtime to suppress how they think about a situation, and stay quiet until they formulate some method of discussion and acknowledgement of the problem, without offering solutions?
Some people need to be heard a lot more than others, could be compatibility in that case. If I’m the listener 90% of the time without being able to engage in the conversation really, it doesn’t seem appealing for me to be there at all. A balance is probably a key factor, and some people are far more needy than others.
I think it comes down to the balance, most people want me to listen but do not care to listen to me. It is generally a selfish thing to demand from me my full attention without reciprocating. That is not bad faith in that case.
I rocked a Samsung Alias 2 for 4 years before I got an iPhone 5. The e-ink keyboard was awesome how it changed when you flipped the screen open to portrait or landscape.
Serious question: I’ve been using Krita to mess around with the tablet, but are there any good reasons to learn GIMP coming from a photoshop background all these years, given that I also know Krita somewhat?
It’s been my primary desktop for about 7 years now, at least. Ubuntu + gnome, tweaked and extended a bit. It’s difficult to boot into windows even for gaming at this point.
I have embraced firefox as my primary browser now. I have a few remaining cookies on chrome that I have to re-establish in FF, and then I can’t even imagine any reason I’d even need to use chrome again other than some obscure internal web app that I can spin up on a throwaway virtual machine.
So if someone starts using EndeavorOS daily, can they claim to be an arch user? Edit: I’m now wiping my laptop clean and using it as my daily driver from now on. This is probably my first experience with Plasma, and I am loving it way more than gnome so far.
Oh my God the more I use it the more amazing it is already. The customization in the Plasma appearance settings is exactly what I’ve missed this whole time. I feel like I’ve wasted all these years now. Better late than never I s’pose.
I’ve done a lot of bluetooth work and know how terrible it is as a protocol, but do you see any issues with only using it for a speaker/earphone, assuming no other devices even within a valid proximity of the transceiver? If nothing can hijack or manipulate or listen to the session, is it that insecure? I disable it and use wired earbuds when I’m mobile for that reason.
I’m a ham radio guy, so I’m licensed by the FCC to transmit 1500 watts in the ham bands. Talk about a flashlight glowing. It’s on my todo list to make a good antenna for directional finding of signals.
Reminds me of the adage “you didn’t pay me $5,000 for turning that bolt. You paid me $5,000 because I knew which bolt to turn.” Experience and knowledge is valuable.
Was there some stat released somewhere showing lemmy “losing users”? I’m pretty new and plan on sticking around, the quality here is infinitely better than reddit.
I agree with this, and on top of that the lack of infinite scroll is a feature to me because it requires me to deliberately consider each post before the next page rather than just spamming downward looking for that next dopamine hit.
It’d be cool to see hosted lemmy instances where people can pay for their own without having to go through the setup process, then curate their own feeds. Unless that already exists somewhere.
Solar now being the cheapest energy source made its rounds on Lemmy some weeks ago, if I remember correctly. I just found this graphic and felt it was worth sharing independently....
I just installed a 9.3 kW system with individual microinverters under each panel for grid stability and it is absolutely amazing how much you can power all day without threatening a massive bill at the end of the month. I still import power at night, but the power companies usually have agreements where you get credits for all wattage exported to the grid to cover your imported power at night, because both parties win in that contract.
It depends, $180/mo for 25 years is the agreement and it’s directly connected to the grid both ways which required additional work from the power company to inspect and approve. I think given the projections it was rated for about 25,000 kWh per year * 25 years (approaching 85% efficiency after 30 years), which is a good amount of total production for my needs. Edit: it’s worth considering what $180/mo will look like in 5 to 20 years… it will probably be significantly cheaper compared to other power sources because it’s generated locally.
Solar’s lack of moving parts is something people overlook, too. Hail storms supposedly rarely damage them, and if they do, you can just replace individual panels.
Greed seems to be the inevitable outcome, at the expense of other humans and animals around us all. It’s disturbing and has no real end-game of benefit now that we have automation. The question is how do we take back control from the authoritarians?
I still don’t know why communism gets a bad rap, as a CONCEPT, not IMPLEMENTATION. People seem to conflate the two, whereas in the modern age of technology it makes the most sense.
We really need more marketing of Linux itself. I run ubuntu and run Cyberpunk 2077 natively, with a wireless gamepad… It’s all out of the box, I don’t know why people are afraid of it?
Edit: It does take about 30 seconds to load things into VRAM, but still worth all of it.
Do you have any recommendations on finding more centrist lemmy instances? Because there is an extreme left and right which seems clear amongst quite a few instances and I don’t want to be a part of any of them.
That appears to be what’s happening. I think at this point I should probably set up my own instance to federate multiple sources and not be stuck with one specific content filter. Not right-wing at all (truthsocial already contains most of those… people, hard pass), just more a mix of everything.
There’s some weird argument by his cult that it’s not in the constitution that a president can’t be in prison. It’s a lot of mental gymnastics, ignoring the fact that he traitorously stole classified nuclear documents from the US government, along with subverting democracy in the RICO case with the 18 co-conspirators.
Someone on here linked to odysee.com which appears to be a better version of YouTube so far, even Louis Rossman is there talking about YT’s new adblock situation as one example: odysee.com/…/youtube's-adblock-war-is-backfiring-…
Why would anybody want the Orange Cancer, when the reality is that Palestine, Israel, Ukraine and the US all lose from that situation? Russia and Iran win. Is that really a valid strategy just to protest against Israel?
Depends, do they want to contribute to even more genocide globally (how many Russians and Ukranians have died this week?) It seems imbalanced to life itself to risk way more lives globally in favor of one group on the planet. Does that seem incorrect?
