I just mount mine into /mnt and bind mount subdirectories from them into wherever I need the space.

Edit: if you want a more theoretically correct location according to the FHS you could mount drives somewhere under /run and bind their contents from there. I’ve done that before as well.

/opt is kinda legacy at this point. That used to be the location where you’d install software manually in the past but I haven’t seen it used for some time, it was more common in the 00’s.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

That seems like a fine use for /opt

Is it time to start shit posting on myfacespace about the satanic computers running the world already?

Even 7 or 8y ago people were calling an Uber to take them to the hospital instead of an ambulance purely to avoid medical debt. Healthcare is fucked in the US.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

I think every member of Congress and their families should be forced to use the same healthcare plan as one of their average constituents. No discounts, no outside help with payments, no extra coverage on top to fill gaps.

Folks on the Oregon coast are growing wasabi successfully now, it’s much more available in the US than it used to be.

My first thought when I read the post title was “cool study bro, now let’s see someone else replicate it a couple times over.”

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

And that’s why you should wait for independent confirmation before trusting studies with conflict of interest.

I organize my tabs by topic window (small project, chunk of work for a larger project, related idea) then kick them into onetab as a bundle with a short description when I’m done with whatever it is I needed them for.

I typically have 5-30 tabs open in topic windows at any time but I can open onetab and ctrl-f to find anything I’ve saved over the last 7 or 8 years. There must be 5000 tabs in there at this point.

Can I get UberEats to stop recommending to "bundle" alcohol from a liquor store to your order?

It just annoys me because I’m not going to order it and I’m abstaining from alcohol. But there’s always some “special deals” being advertised by UberEats on alcohol, as well as meat, dairy and eggs. It’s like they’re really sleazy and desperate to hawk these products.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Just wait until they get caught targeting people in recovery for these liquor ads at the optimal time for them to cave and make an order. You know that shit’s going to be a scandal sometime in the next few years.

If I had to guess when GIMP will be native GTK 4 I’d say no sooner than five years, more likely it’ll be 10. By the time GIMP runs on GTK 4 we’ll be working with GTK 5 or 6.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

That’s a good start, now keep going.

What inconsequential or surprisingly good thing can I get from Aliexpress?

Im curious as I usually use the site very occasionally to get certain electronic parts or order from PCBway like I just picked up some cheap but infinitely better than stock gps antennas for my LoRa T beams and im about to get a set of also still cheap but much better than stock 915mhz antennas but i kinda wanna throw some other...

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

All kinds of small electronics and components, thermal putty, thermal tapes, heatsinks, antennas, plastic cases, replacement customized cases for specific electronics (handheld consoles, etc.)

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

I imagine you’d want more of a flared base (probably significantly more) and that heat dissipation would be an issue.

I missed a prime opportunity to post this one as “So I started blasting” didn’t I?

I don’t have to listen to leaf blowers and lawn mowers at 6am and the neighbors aren’t mowing lawns every day of the week.

Any time not winter here is allergy season and none of the above helps.

Cheap resistive touch tablets have been a thing for a while. Don’t bother, they’re awful compared to capacitive.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Don’t buy cheap tablets, they’re never worth your time. Shop fleaBay for a Samsung Tab S6, S7 or S8 depending on your budget instead - you’ll be much happier with the outcome.

I’m still using my 2019 Tab S6 for Netflix, Reddit, PDF reading and annotation, comics and occasionally ebooks via KOReader. Great device, absolutely worth the ~$400 I spent on it on fleaBay ~3-4y ago.

If AMOLED is a must for you the Tab S6, Tab S7 Plus, Tab S8 Plus or Ultra and any Tab S9 model are where you want to start. I’ll replace my Tab S6 when the 11in Tab S9 drops below ~$400 secondhand.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

It has a place on ruggedized devices. Resistive allows the use of an all plastic screen but only really works well with stylus input. Think lower screen on a Nintendo DS/3DS and you’ve got an idea of resistives’ usability limitations.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

I had no problem unlocking my secondhand Tab S6. There usually aren’t 3rd party ROMs or recovery images available though, software modification is limited to grabbing the factory Samsung ROM and installing magisk on it.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

I’ve unlocked my US Tab S, Tab S2, Tab S5e and Tab S6. I’ve never had trouble unlocking one.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

No idea. I avoid their phones but their tablets are the best option for solid performance and AMOLED so I buy them periodically on fleaBay. I suspect it’s just a phone thing, I’ve unlocked every tablet I’ve owned.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Just be aware that there’s not much to flash on most models. There’s not a large enough community to support an active ROM scene so you’re often limited to just unlocking the device and patching the factory image with magisk, occasionally there’ll be a non device-specific GSI treble ROM or something but that’s about it.

System updates are a pain with a patched device too, it’s all by hand work every firmware release. I usually use Frija to grab and decrypt the image and patch it with magisk before updating with Odin.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

You use Frija to download and decrypt the full image then patch it with magisk on the device, then copy that back to a PC to flash to the device with Odin. It’s :effort: but it’s the best workflow I’ve found. You can download images from the various sites that host decrypted Samsung factory ROMs but Frija is significantly faster.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Imagine taking a beloved classic fantasy series and handing the material off to the CW for adaptation and you’ve got the gist of Amazon’s WoT series. It’s pretty, it’s vapid and there’s a whole pile of extra teenage soap opera drama thrown into season 1 for no real reason.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

The first two episodes are the most gorgeous sci-fi tv production I’ve ever seen. Beyond that it’s a bit shakier but it’s definitely watchable.

Now if they’d just let me run the damned client on more than one device so I can reply to messages from my tablet.

seaQueue,
@seaQueue@lemmy.world avatar

Yup, exactly. I switch between phone and tablet during the day and signal is the only messaging client that makes me stop what I’m doing and pick up an entirely separate device to check messages and reply. A bunch of my friends ended up on telegram or matrix because the usage model just doesn’t work for people who use multiple android or iOS devices.

I love how people just up and forget about all of the infrastructure that makes their lives possible every single time they ask this question.

I wouldn’t worry about it unless you’re already having similar issues. If you drink a cup of coffee and get suddenly tired, congested or physically sore then I’d bring it up with your doctor. This didn’t start happening to me until my late 30s, and only when I drink particularly high histamine coffees, I don’t think it’s a common reaction.

Antihistamines help a little but I usually have to reach for something like Benadryl which leaves me exhausted (not usually what I want after a coffee) so I’ve just gravitated to safer coffees. High doses of DAO enzyme seem to do a slightly better job but I’d rather just avoid the attack in the first place when possible.

Again, it’s probably not something you need to worry about unless you start having histamine reactions to tea, coffee or chocolate. I’m just particularly sensitive to all of them.
