Guess you bought the wrong toaster then lol…

Endeavour is basically Arch but with bling out of the box & an easier installer…

furycd001,

Bling as in pre-installed themes…

I usually have a minimum of 8 tabs open, but right now it’s something like 24. I’ve recently gotten into a bad habit of opening tabs & not getting around to them until maybe a week or two, maybe sometimes more. I really need to sort out my tab game & start being more productive…

All Linux distros can be unstable & really it all comes down to how you use your system…

Fuck em…
Just buy music directly from the artist whenever possible…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I wish developers would just support Debian rather than Ubuntu…

Spotify & pretty much most music streaming services. I buy all my music directly from the artist whenever possible…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Just go to the official website for whatever artist you like & there will most likely be a link that takes you to their official store or whatever…

The year was 2002 & I was fed up with windows for various reasons. Connected to the internet looking for a windows alternative & ended up finding slackware. Installed slackware & got it somewhat working. Happily used it for a short while, before moving on to Fedora Core when it was released…

Ricing is great, but it’s probably not a thing that makes a whole lot of people switch to Linux…

For me GIMP is easier to use than krita, pinta, or any other photo editor on Linux…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I’d never used anything & I tried them all. GIMP was by far the easiest for me to learn & I don’t know why. The rest are not in any way bad, I just found GIMP the easiest for whatever reason…

Agreed…

I’m usually a cortado or flat white kinda guy, but some people clearly order “dark” coffee…

I’ve only ever had two problems with Arch based systems…

  1. Nvidia drivers…
  2. Installing poorly create aur packages…

Was experiencing crashes until the last update was pushed. Now everything appears to be fine…

I personally like ethernet because it’s so reliable & I’ve never had any problems. In my house WiFi can be so unreliable, whereas ethernet has been nothing but awesome…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Let’s hope it never has to come to that…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Yea WiFi is definitely great for certain things, but not everything. My wife has friends over at the house from time to time, and some of them ask why I’d rather run a cable from the router to my computer instead of just using WiFi. It’s easy enough to explain, but because they are not all that technical, it’s hard for them to understand, I guess…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Haha, when I first moved into the house I’m living in now, my wife was never done tripping over my cable. I’d yet to mount it to the wall at that point…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I never even realised that. Thanks for mentioning it…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

You should totally go ahead and do it. It will be totally worth it…

The operating system in use shouldn’t be a factor. Consider opening your laptop to perform a thorough cleaning, and also consider replacing the thermal paste as well. If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, taking it to a repair shop is a viable option. Investing in a cooling stand for the laptop would also be beneficial…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

There are some slim battery operated cooling stands listed on Amazon. Not sure how well they’d work, but they are always an option…

I gave bspwn a try a while back, but never stuck with it. Recently been thinking about giving it another try. Any advice you could give to someone who’s primarily been using XFCE for the most part…

Most recently I updated nvidia drivers on Arch & failed to read the output printed to the terminal. Next time I turned on the computer I was left with the dreaded blinking cursor due to a driver issue. My graphics card had just switched from the main nvidia driver to 470xx & I had failed to notice. Installing the correct driver fixed the problem & I was once again able to boot. Previously way back in like 2002’ish I got a second monitor for my setup & tried manually configuring it. Had a number of unsuccessful boots, before I finally got it working…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

One or two recent updates to the 470xx nvidia drivers on Arch partially broke my system. Since the most recent fix, I have the packages on hold so that they don’t ever get updated again. I just want them to work from here on…

@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Thanks for the tip, will have to look into using it…

Install nerd fonts & place the line below in your .bashrc

bash export PS1=‘[e[0m] [e[0m] [e[0m]’

furycd001,

You are 100% correct :)

While I’ve nothing against neofetch, I prefer to use my own fetch because it needs little to no maintenance and has everything I need. I actually think that maintaining a neofetch config might actually be more work in the long run. Anyway… I’m using plain old Bash for my shell prompt. I’ve just customized it using nerd fonts (see one of my other comments on this post for the command)

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I’ve not used neofetch in quite some time, but I’m sure my own is indeed faster…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I ditched all top programs on my system, because I have no use for any of them…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

I just use xkill for that…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Thankfully I’ve never had that happen, but if it did I would probably just switch to a tty & use the killall command on whatever was giving me bother…

@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

My computer just works so I’ve never needed to check, but I run XFCE & have xfce4-taskmanager installed, so I could use that if I ever needed…

furycd001,
@furycd001@lemmy.ml avatar

Super cool that you can do that. Thanks for sharing…
