Best comment. This solves two cases at once.

Other thing: so many Laptops dont get updates anymore. I wonder if we could squeeze one out for the Logofail vulnerability

SimpleX

But as alternative to FB messenger?? Literally anything, switch as fast as you can!

Pantherina,

Not yet

Pantherina,

If Facebook messenger is the comparison, Deltachat is awesome. Its very bloated though if you use it for email too. Also for some reason it doesnt delete messages from the server which is really annoying

@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Damn! Very interesting, had no idea that was possible. But its very messy and also moves the bookmarks toolbar there.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

What? How do you enable that?

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Ok will see if I can copy those elements to normal Firefox. No way I am using some strange 3rd Party firefox mod XD

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Thanks! Still not what I need. Way too big and again for all bookmarks, not only a few icons

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Looks cool! But is there no option to have two sidebars and not just the bookmarks toolbar?

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Fitotrack. Question is how often, how detailed? Google does this via their tracking network so it uses way less battery.

Leaving that on all day would produce pretty big files and suck up lots of battery.

You can create a new Fitotrack profile and set the details to pretty rough, this will save some space.

I would advise against OSMand, its interface is not perfect for recording and the App is huge so it will probably use up way more battery

What is a small .EPUB reader that is easy to install for my small Puppy remaster?

My question is basically the title. I’m making my own Puppy Linux remaster and it already has a .PDF reader for it that is very small. I think it’s called Evince? It has a native GTK UI and starts in a second, uses very little RAM and CPU. Now I need a .EPUB reader. I’ve seen a couple different .EPUB reader apps out there...

I.e. install a Browser extension that does this

How many of you run a Linux phone (Pine64, Librem etc) as your daily driver?

I was going through Pine64’s page again after I found the latest KDE announcement. With that said, I seem to see a lot of issues with firmware on the Pine, whilst the Librem is just plain out of budget for me. Was interested in how many people here run a Linux mobile as a daily driver, and how has your experience been?...

Me, GrapheneOS!

No jokes, I found a Oneplus 3 with broken Display, will fix that and try some distros. But the choices all seem pretty bad tbh, I would like Fedora Silverblue but I guess that doesnt exist… yet.

Maybe I will try to create a custom Ublue image?

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

I mean GrapheneOS is probably the most secure OS on the planet and also privacy friendly. Android is annoying sometimes but its pretty okay and the security standards are veeery high

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

It sucks that GrapheneOS supports only Pixels and nobody came along and ported it to other devices, although less secure.

But “Android gets harder to degoogle” is not true. Pixels are just way too expensive

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Yup then that is pretty messed up. I was used to phones not costing over 200€, maybe 300

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Nokia 7plus back then. Great hardware, nice materials. Still working great but nearly no software updates. An indian guy develops LineageOS for Nokia phones though

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Things are going in the right directions, somewhere.

 • immutable Systems
 • security optimized, permission models etc
 • TPM encryption
 • HEADS Bios with hardware key as storage

But its far from the security of a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

You can root GrapheneOS, no problem. Its just not as secure anymore and the bootloader cant be locked, banking apps will not work anymore, Android Attestation, Safetynet etc

No shit Firefox is really missing:

 • systemwide Webview for Android and Linux
 • sandbox compatible with Chromium, especially on Linux and Android
 • webapps through a secondary profile
 • very secure preset in privacy settings to make it en par with Torbrowser / Arkenfox
 • native support for custom Search engines (literally Edge and Chrome have that)
 • possibility for a side panel with custom sites.

Thats it basically. Firefox is great

Pantherina, (edited )
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Geckoview is not a webview for those Platforms.

The Chromium sandbox is way better

…github.io/firefox-chromium.html

Very secure profile. Your argument makes no sense, it would be opt in and Arkenfox works nearly everywhere.

Yeah I am not talking about opensearch but actual custom Search parameters. Fenix doesnt support opensearch too.

Oh nice extension, will try that! no that is not a sidebar I would like

Addition: gui button for managing profiles, especially for secure and insecure profile. Most people dont even know profiles exist!

Also: unlocking profile with hardware key

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Fenix allows actual manual search engines but no opensearch, Desktop allows opensearch but no manual ones. Yay!

All the good sites have no opensearch, and you cant do cool stuff like presetting the sorting or only used on Ebay.

New extensions you’ll love now available on Firefox for Android (blog.mozilla.org)

Today, Mozilla announced more than 450 new extensions (software that adds new features or functionality to the browser) to users on Firefox for Android at Mozilla’s AMO Android page. This milestone marks the launch of a new open extension ecosystem on mobile where developers are now free to create and publish extensions and...

Use Mull. Fennec is just debloated not hardened.

Pantherina,

 1. Switch over the software you use to stuff that also works on Linux. alternativeto.net
 2. Get an external SSD case if you are on a laptop, or just a second one and install it there
 3. Extract your Windows License key!
 4. Fedora kinoite from ublue.it
Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Important point missing, and the reason to always avoid using “Apps”.

The email is not the only identifier, but your Device ID / app ID.

This will stay the same probably, and the app will always send the same device ID to these servers, so no way this is possible.

You could try something like an android emulator though, like Waydroid, and reinstall it always.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

I dont think that is true at all. Appimages are slowest and have many disadvantages like

 • no repo (= virus danger)
 • no app desktop entry
 • no updates
 • no deduplication of libraries
Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Thanks!

50GB without
31GB with deduplication
21,4GB with BTRFS compression

And I have to say I have many apps. Not as many anymore, and no EOL runtimes apart Onionshare anymore.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

?

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

The appimages I used dont autoupdate. But even if, you are in some weird “windows is bad” state from years ago, before the MS Store, and even without desktop entries.

There simply is no reason for appimages other than on systems like Tails that are not made to install apps. But I also think Tails is pretty annoying and should allow flatpak installs in the permanent storage partition.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Yes, Appimages lost the race. The apps are old afaik, and often dont work. It sucks when distributors use Appimages as they are simply a bad app format.

 • SimpleX
 • Balena Etcher

There is a way to convert Appimages to Flatpaks, but I havent got that complete.

github.com/…/Appimage-To-Flatpak

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Yes but that is unimportant. This is not user friendly at all. I do that all the time for random stuff, but especially on GNOME the system hides stuff like that away from users and thats okay.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar
Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

It doesnt work. Just static viewing.

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Bliss is pretty old LineageOS based though. Would be great to have GrapheneOS or just DivestOS on x86

Pantherina,
@Pantherina@feddit.de avatar

Also KDE Connect and CUPS for security and probably battery. KDE connect needs to be uninnstalled or an empty desktop starter with touch ~/.local/share/applications/kdeconnectd.desktop afaik.

Cups is a systemd service so sudo systemctl disable --now cups.service && systemctl mask cups.service revert that with unmask and enable respectively. Cups is also as big security risk as Printers suck, printing from USB sticks is often a better solution.

pcmanfm-qt is a good replacement for Dolphin which is way slimmer and runs on Wayland natively, its simply the best filemanager for KDE or similar systems apart from Dolphin.

Debloating Fedora KDE is very much needed, Kinoite doesnt need to be.

I didnt test Video players but Celluloid is a modern MPV GUI that supports Wayland (literally the only video player it seems).

Browser have to be all fine because they are both pretty hard on resources.
