I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username. This is my primary Lemmy account, but I have many others like it on other instances.

How often do you use "AI" to reply to your messages, if at all?

The recent chat bot advances have pretty much changed my life. I used to get anxiety by receiving mails and IMs, sometimes even from friends. I lost friendships over not replying. My main issue being that I am sometimes get completely stuck in a loop of how to formulate things in the best way to the point of just abandoning the...

Never. Though after that South Park episode where the kids were doing this, I have thought about it.

Maybe a little. I’m from California and have been to Mexico (and not just around the border) and the most striking difference to me other than the language was the layout of streets. I don’t know if that’s because they’re not too different, or because the area in California I am from is already predominantly Mexican and Portuguese.

The cold open for The Nth Degree (I think?) where he and Beverly are doing a production of something, it keeps showing the audience. Everyone is smiling and having a good time… Except Data, who has the look of someone who just smelled a fart, which sours more when he looks around the room to see everyone else’s reaction and I just know he is thinking “how the hell are they enjoying this absolute shit show? I could act circles around Broccoli!”

Gets me every time. 💀

No other death in the entire series was as gorey and gruesome as that head explosion. Fucker’s right up there with the Scanners scene, or the dude that inflates and explodes in Big Trouble in Little China.

I mean, look at this shit!

That’s why I recognize the name! 🤦‍♂️

I keep seeing “Andromeda” pop up as a movie and thinking “I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that” but then don’t recognize the description. Because I remember this show, not that movie!

I gotta find this shit and watch it again. I haven’t seen it since it was new.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I don’t like Sorbo either but him being present in the thing doesn’t make the thing bad.

Hercules is still a good show, despite his Tweets.

Did he actually ruin Andromeda, or is it more of a “he’s in it so I don’t wanna watch it now” thing?

Edit: Oh. He really did ruin the show. Well. Carry on then.

If you like shooters and cyberpunk stories: Yes.

The shooting is great, the world is cool as fuck to explore, and the story is on point for the genre.

If you don’t like shooters or cyberpunk/sci-fi as a genre it probably won’t change your mind. The gameplay isn’t mind-blowing; it’s pretty average though the combat somewhat reminds me of Dishonored except without teleportation and time manipulation other than bullet time. The story is mostly well-written, but there’s one jarring plot hole about half-way through the main story, and the pacing is a little weird when it comes to interacting with Johnny because of the open-world nature; the dialogue, though, is good throughout.

As an RPG it’s very light. You have choices, and they matter and some of those choices you make by leaving dialogue and just doing something (like shooting a machine or just leaving the area). But you don’t get these all the time, and when you do you have like 3 or 4 options. The skill tree is big, but it’s also a mess (even now after it’s been reworked twice.) I always find myself overwhelmed by how many options there are, but underwhelmed by what they actually give.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Do they just make the best possible choices or is there a chance they just brain fart and make stupid choices?

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I’d say it’s fairly good. It’s so good, in fact, that when you leave it no good moves to make because you obliterated their strongest dude and then jumped 30 squares away in a single turn, it literally holds the game up for a solid minute or so trying to figure out what to do.

Kolanaki,

The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy.

It was good. It was written by Douglas Adams. He also wrote screenplays for the next 2 books to be made into movies.

And despite it making a couple million more than it cost, the first one was considered a flop. :(

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

They made a sequel to Good Burger, so I’m not so sure about the “unbelievably bad” thing being a reason for sequels to not be made.

I mean… You live in a world where magic healing exists. Why would anyone be blind when you can find a sorcerer, wizard or cleric (or even a spoony bard like Volo) and restore your sight in at least 20 different ways? 🤔

This was a bit of weird shit in Star Trek with Geordi, too. They can literally grow him new eyes (and do eventually) but the visor is also cool, and the rule of cool wins.

It’s not so much that a disabled person being realistic is unfun; it’s that it doesn’t seem to fit the world itself which kills suspension of disbelief if you understand how the game world works. You’d have to work extra hard at giving a believable reason for this person to be disabled and not have gotten healed through magical means.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Unless maybe it’s a steam-powered Gnomish wheelchair with tank treads, blunderbusses and magic missile launchers.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

you to expand your own definition of what’s possible.

The irony here is palpable. You’re telling me to expand my definition of what’s possible while simultaneously telling me to curb my imagination.

Make up your mind.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I wouldn’t have any arguments if the character had an intelligence score of 4.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I’m not trying to erase anything; I’m more encouraging these players to make their background fit the game world better because in the end, the game is just collaborative story-telling and you’re not the only writer. Just as it’s easy to fix the problem with magic, you could equally make it unfixable with magic too.

You’ve clearly internally defined magical healing in a way that makes it somehow know in which ways a body deviates from the population median, even if it has never adhered to said median, without thinking about how it might know how to do that.

Magic is literally capable of anything. It can grant wishes. It can raise the dead. It can cure disease. It can also cause death. Cause disease. Permanently maim and disfigure. It doesn’t need to know anything; the person performing the magic makes that determination. That’s part of what makes it magic.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Lesser Restoration is free and usually offered by clerics at any good aligned God’s church. Which, in Faerun, are easy to find.

Beyond that, there are magical diseases that can’t be cured by normal restorative magics. This is used in the plot for Neverwinter Nights.

I just have to ask… How difficult is making holy water in D&D because making it IRL is easy. 25gp for holy water seems quite expensive. But to be fair, it actually works in the game.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

Even in D&D, they could be playing their own custom worlds. I’ve never actually played in an official setting unless I was DM’ing (because I love Forgotten Realms). Obviously if they are playing a low-fantasy setting with minimal magic or without magic it wouldn’t generate the questions of “why didn’t you just X?”

Kolanaki, (edited )
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

So, by the same logic, why would anyone ever have a STR score that was less than fucking Hercules’?

I’m sure if the rules allowed them to, they would.

The spells that can cure blindness, deafness or fix paralysis and other things are very clearly in the rules as well as how they are integrated into the world itself within the DM handbook.

And yes, there are even spells that are basically body modification. Fuckin’ Wild Shape. Becoming a lich. Etc.

Instead of taking this to mean you shouldn’t play a disabled character, work around it and answer the questions that will inevitably pop up as to why. Being born that way and not wanting to erase your identify is still a good reason for most of those. But if you’re like the able-bodied edgelords I’ve seen who want to play as a fighter who was blinded in battle… Well.

They had a nudist colony in the movie where they very clearly showed rears and crotches that had nothing there. So why was Judy so flustered by their nudity? 🤔 Perhaps it wasn’t because they were naked, but that there were all freaks that lacked buttholes and genitals.

I find it super weird that the only time we see any in-universe ads (not counting Lower Decks) it’s:

  • A dead planet where an arms dealer used to operate and their holographic sales program was still running
  • A single TV ad made by Quark on DS9 (that he illegally broadcast by hacking the communications system or something)

I would think that every Ferengi ship would just be a giant holographic billboard for Ferengi products and services. We even see Ferenginar a few times and there are no ads anywhere. Not even in the FCA building. But they do make a point of showing off how you have to pay for everything; including visiting a person’s home.

“Welcome to our home. Place your imprint on the legal waivers and deposit your admission fee in the box by the door. Remember, my house is my house as are its contents.”

I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you. (kbin.social)

A few days ago I downvoted someone's comment, and the next day I happened to notice every single comment I've ever made had at least one downvote. Any clothing other than T-Shirts. The sizing is almost always wrong from what the store says it is. I don’t even order a lot of shirts online because 90% of the time, I check the sizing and their 3XL size is the size of every normal place’s small.

I liked Hyena Agenda and Nomad Complex… But they both shut down earlier this year :(

Except that Quake is a good engine.

GameBryo is and has always been shit. There are other games from competent devs on that engine, and they also are full of problems.

Building a house with a solid foundation is still important. Quake is bedrock. GameBryo is sand.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

All statements Bethesda has made about Creation say the same thing. Doesn’t mean it’s true.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

GameBryo doesn’t exist in their engine anymore. I’m reasonably confident that there is hardly anything left in that engine from GameBryo.

The bones of it are still very much there, holding everything else together. If you’ve ever made scripts for mods, you’d know this.
