I’m just a weird, furry, pan guy (cis he/him). I also have a big, blue username. This is my primary Lemmy account, but I have many others like it on other instances.

This profile is from a federated server and may be incomplete. Browse more on the original instance.

What features would you want in a decentralized gaming platform similar to Steam?

Hey everyone! I noticed that the discussions around the recently released self-hosted alternative to Steam and Origin, have been focused on its controversial name. Let’s shift the conversation and talk about the features you would like to see or wouldn’t care about in this software.

The only thing I would remotely be interested in for the purposes of what Steam does, but on a decentralized platform, is having multiple backups in case of server outages.

Ideally, I don’t want a service like Steam at all. I just like having an off-site backup to my games.

On the matter of the doughnut: If you make them at home, you’re almost always just rolling a cylinder and then making it a circle. I have never actually punched a hole out of a doughnut. That would mess up the toroidal shape.

But also: So you’re saying a straw has 0 holes?

I used No-IP for this very thing many years ago (using a domain on a server with a dynamic IP, anyway).

After seeing several places get mainstream, the last of which being Reddit: I wouldn’t want it to. That’s when everything starts to suck. Stay niche. Stay cool.

I don’t believe it, but I some times wonder if some kind of self is preserved as energy within the universe somehow. Effectively being a soul, but in a sense of physics more than spirituality. Much like how the physical body will decay and return to the earth, the energy that makes up consciousness could simply return to the universe.

Other than The Valerian, is there any other content set in the universe of The Fifth Element?

The world is so detailed, I just want to know about it. Like… What’s the alien Zorg has as a pet and things like that. Are the movies really just kind of self-contained, or are they inspired/based on something? Are there maybe books set in the world?

What’s the difference between all those instances?

We have Lemmy.world, Lemmy.ml, beehaw.org, I think even yiffit.net. If I log in using wefwef it asks me where I want to login. And when I make a new account using another instance, it says ”… Lemmy is federated, so you can interact with everything on lemmy.ml even if you’re registered on a different instance.“ So if...

  1. Log in on your preferred instance
  2. Browse all
  3. See content from another instance
  4. Interact with it

Isn’t selfhosted started by the same dude that started lemmy.world? Meaning it really is selfhosted? 🤔

Literally already posting to a public space everyone everywhere can access if they were so inclined. I don’t see how scraping that same content would make any difference, unless it significantly impacted site stability.

Is it that it’s not very good, or actually working as an indicator of what’s truly popular and currently generating engagement? 🤔

COMMUNITY DOUBLE POLL RESULTS: COCKS OUT, WALLETS AWAY (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

-----POLL RESULTS EDIT: NSFW IS STILL 100% ALLOWED, CORPOPOSTING IS NOW BANNED--------- I’ve been seeing a lot of reports on posts that feature corporate mascots/product worship, as well as properly tagged NSFW posts that are just straight up furry porn. Neither of these posts violate any of our regulations, and in fact the...

Everything Must Be Paid for Twice (www.raptitude.com)

One financial lesson they should teach in school is that most of the things we buy have to be paid for twice. There’s the first price, usually paid in dollars, just to gain possession of the desired thing, whatever it is: a book, a budgeting app, a unicycle, a bundle of kale. But then, in order to make use of the thing, you...

I don’t know if this is to mean you only paid for your games once, or if you’re like me and have a ton of older games you bought again to have on Steam because they don’t even have CD-Keys to be added manually from an original purchase (like Doom 1995).

It’s quite usable if you view its contents from another instance like I am doing now.

They can already be seen in tandem with each other. If anything, it just gives more content for the same topics. I really don’t know what purpose consolidation would ultimately serve.

walks into train, completely stoned. Sees clock. Panics. Ah fuck, I’m way too high to travel back in time… What if I fuck up the timeline?!

But it’s an aggregate; why not even links to videos or gifs?
