I'm starting to see some serious downsides to being able to see who downvotes you. (kbin.social)

A few days ago I downvoted someone's comment, and the next day I happened to notice every single comment I've ever made had at least one downvote. All from the person I dared to downvote the ONE time. I straight up asked why they did it, and they seem to think I'm an "obvious" troll account that "apparently just exist to...

True, but if they hadn't seen it was me that downvoted them in the first place, they wouldn't know who to stalk, and I wouldn't have to call anyone out at all. Really though, I can still see both sides here. I'm just bitter it happened to me. Lol

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I don't. That's why I called them imaginary internet points. Lol. My point was about the fact that you can see who downvotes you.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Who's freaking out my dude? My point was this wouldn't have happened if THEY didn't know who I was. You and others make some good points about some how this happens regardless, and how there are upsides to seeing who downvotes you. I honestly wasn't aware this was a common thing until now. It's why I asked if this has happened to anyone else. Chalk it up to me being a bit naive.

?

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Oh, I'm aware. I've just never heard of "Downvote Fairies". In any case that was never my point, as I've explained.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Fair enough. I tend to think downvotes are warranted when it's not adding anything to the conversation and/or are somewhat hostile. Not that it's worth anything at this point, but the downvote was because I literally just explained myself on the very post they were responding to. People are just putting words in my mouth at this point just because they want to disagree, and at some point it's easier to downvote that to repeat myself.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

You see? That's literally not what I said. I seem to have struck a nerve with you here and I'm not sure why. But go ahead. Give me my downvote that I apparently care so much about.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I think this is correct.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Agreed. Also, party on dude!

It's certainly beginning to look that way. DRM ruins everything.

Scientist, after decades of study, concludes: We don't have free will (phys.org)

Before epilepsy was understood to be a neurological condition, people believed it was caused by the moon, or by phlegm in the brain. They condemned seizures as evidence of witchcraft or demonic possession, and killed or castrated sufferers to prevent them from passing tainted blood to a new generation.

Thanks for referencing Rush so I didn't have to. Lol

I totally forgot how terrible a non-ad-free YouTube experience is

So I’ve been using youtube ad blockers since pretty much when ad blocker extensions were first available. Lately though I’ve been getting hit more and more with these messages that YT was sending out every 5 or so videos telling me that adblockers aren’t allowed. No problem, just gotta wait 5 seconds to x it out and then...

Maybe it's an iOS thing, but I can definitely do PiP with Premium on the official app on Android.

Just the usual out of touch fear mongering the VR community has been getting for years. Now that Apple has joined the party, I expect a lot more of it in the future, unfortunately.

Fortnite creative boss Donald Mustard retires (www.pcgamer.com)

Donald Mustard may not be the most well-known name in gaming, but he's definitely one of the most influential. For the past seven years he's been the chief creative officer at Epic Games and "Loremaster of Fortnite"—the big hand on the wheel of one of the biggest videogame phenomena of all time. But soon that era will come to...

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

It seems Mustard is taking time to ketchup with family and friends.

My last couple of phones have used Pela cases. They're made with flax husk and other natural materials and are compostable. A bit pricey though

billothekid2,

I guess I haven't really noticed, or I'm just used to it. I have noticed the fit loosens a bit over time, which would be my main complaint.

billothekid2,

Nothing new. It's just an overview of how shady and scammy the browser is. I still see a lot of people recommending it without knowing the backstory.

He's actually been kinda cranky on Mastodon lately. I've actually thought about unfollowing him because he's been a bit of a downer and even downright rude. Still love his videos, but I'm beginning to think he might be kind of a dick.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I mean, talking specifically of the Quest Pro, it was too expensive with a lot of half baked features at launch. It's main feature being pass through, and that's probably the most complained about thing from reviewers. So this news isn't really surprising. As for VR itself, it may be a niche, but it's still a growing market. A veeerry slowly growing market.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I'm still at 7.99! If they increase it to 14 bucks, that's gonna hurt.

Can we please remember to talk about things on the fediverse besides the fediverse itself? (kbin.social)

Having spent a lot of time on Mastodon... There are tons of people there talking about federated and self-hosted services, software freedom, censorship, encryption, tech regulation... A very narrow range of topics directly surrounding the fediverse get a lot of attention....

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I was just thinking the same!

@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Judging by this thread alone, I'd say people aren't convinced.

I'm personally a fan of pirate broadcast intrusions of someone wearing a Max Headroom mask and getting away with it. As you can see.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

Holy shit! Good for them! Hope they see the benefits of the fediverse at some point.

billothekid2,
@billothekid2@kbin.social avatar

I agree that the naming scheme is a bit weird and confusing. In most people's terminology, when you leave any kind of a comment on the internet it's considered a "post". You "post" a comment. I'm kinda hoping this gets changed, but I suppose I might just get used to it. It's all still quite new after all.
