Grass,

I don’t know anything about the devs, but gnome sucks. I tried it recently on the steam deck thinking maybe it would be easier to use with the touch screen. It’s awful. All this time I had assumed it was designed to be used with touch, but it’s hands down the worst touch experience I’ve had to date. Postmarketos with sway on a phone would compete for better touch interface and you use goddamn volume buttons to control the menus.

Grass,

That sounds delightful actually

Grass,

I’ve had this thought about landscapes in general

Grass,

This whole thing, including clicking the post and reading comments and the review embargo stuff, gives me déjà vu.

Grass,

I didn’t get that great of an impression from what I have seen, but surely this many reviewers can’t be all bonkers. I guess I’ll try to find time to force myself through that abnormally childish looking intro but I don’t know if it’s going to be feasible for my broke ass.

Grass,

I’m more impressed by the guy that rewrote chunks of the Mario 64 source to make it run up to 60 fps on real hardware with better graphics and a number of big fixes and qol enhancements.

Grass,

Yeah that’s the one. Every game dev should be like him. Optimization is the only god in game dev. Shareholders can go to hell.

Grass,

Hopefully it will be playable before I cease to exist.

Grass,

This is why I use bazzite on my gaming computers now. My home server crap is still a nightmare though.

Grass,

That’s a bit more than some extent

Grass,

The soy would be great if they made it less salty. It’s usually much cheaper than cow titty juice in my region.

Grass,

Cow titty juice. You can call anything anything. If enough people say it then it’s correct. It’s like how the word ‘literally’ gained an extra definition of ‘not literally’. Unless you are speaking France French, then the government decides or something.

Grass,

I saw Tesla in the thumbnail and my first thought was “bullshit”

Grass,

I hate driving my daily commute. I don’t even own a car anymore and I have to sometimes.

Grass,

Fingerprint reader is Garbo though. It works better wearing a blue nitrile glove than bare hand too for who knows.

Grass,

Doesn’t this just drain the already short battery faster?

Grass,

You don’t have a call before you dig phone line in your area?

Grass,

i just want a dumb tv with the latest panel tech and no planned obsolescence. I have so many computers that can provide “smarts” already

Goodbye Youtube and thanks for all the fish (infosec.pub)

Youtube let the other shoe drop in their end-stage enshittification this week. Last month, they required you to turn on Youtube History to view the feed of youtube videos recommendations. That seems reasonable, so I did it. But I delete my history every 1 week instead of every 3 months. So they don’t get much from my choices....

Grass,

I doubt turning off history truly does what it says either though. I think it was more about avoiding the shitty algo recc’s that try to turn everyone’s dad and uncle into a far right extremist.

Rough / early designs of the Champions (abload.de)

Personally, I like Revali’s “old” design better than the discount Falco we got in the end. Seems like they had a general fighter/musician theme going on with the Rito in general instead of just Kass in particular, and a cello bow (cellow?) would have been an interesting, unique weapon....

Grass,

I’m also on team good thing they changed mipha. The animations are already very japanese (gestures, mannerisms, and reactions the rest of the world doesn’t do) and making the characters too much like typical anime designs it would make everything too generic and weeby.

Grass,

Probably support purposes but really anyone that uses Linux will just install their favorite distro right away.

I use arch btw…

Grass,

I have 2 ender 3’s which I have done tons of mods on and I spend too much time tweaking and modding it and never to any actual printing.

My recommendation is to get a prusa 3 or 4, whatever the standard size is, just print stuff, and if you need a bigger volume print the parts to build a large voron, or if you want more speed a voron zero or other fast mini. The prusas will just work and should be your reliable fallback for if you break down a tinkering printer.

Also don’t fall for the scams. Don’t get Capricorn tube it’s literally just the same thing with blue dye in it. I’ve even used non Teflon regular tube and maybe had to slow down what was previously a 12 hour print to add about 20 minutes.

Do get a bimetal heatbreak if the printer you end up with doesn’t start with one. It will save you having to continually replace tubing.

Direct drive is hit and miss. If the total weight of the moving parts of the printer stays low it can potentially be faster, but generally it’s just going to add weight and vibration. You only really need it for the really soft materials and if your tube is positioned well you can do the somewhat soft ones pretty reliably. My fastest printer used a very weight reduced printhead and Bowden tube positioned to never bend more than the curvature of the filament off the reel. It is still pending repair from a bad crash though.

Rails are also hit and miss. The rods like on prusas supposedly have ‘sticktion’ but the print quality I’ve seen on them has been consistently excellent. The wheels like ender and friends are more finicky than the other two but if they aren’t over or under tightened and the beams aren’t bent or dented, then they also can put out consistent quality.

Whatever printer you get though, try not to get too caught up in tweaking and modding too early. Definitely build it as square as possible though. Use a square and a tape or ruler, match your diagonals etc. Enders and printers that use the same board also come stock with tinned wires in screw terminals. At the very least you want to snip the soldered end off and put them in bare, or crimp metal ferrules on the end. It’s a fire hazard by default.

Lastly I suggest inquiring in printing communities before committing to any upgrade. Others who have already wasted money will often be able to tell you if something is worth your time or if it will end up as unused parts in a bin.

Grass,

Flashing red is stop sign procedures here. Some, but not enough problematic places have no right on red signs which often get ignored. I mainly have issue with trying to go right on green but that’s when people are crossing, and when I have no choice but to drive near the stadium during a game or concert and people cross endlessly regardless of signals. We really need a separate all way pedestrian sequence in busy intersections and intersections with only 3 crossings at least, and some kind way of ensuring no actions are taken in a pedestrian only phase.

Grass,

Wait cura is that out of date on Linux? I’ve been using superslicer since cura was kinda confusing to me but I’m surprised it’s lagging behind with the Linux builds

Grass,

To me this is the only one. I only touch dirt with gloves and/or plain bar soap crammed under my nails.

I had a dream about windows and have decided to setup Linux on my laptop. What distro should I use?

I used Ubuntu once a few years ago but had compatability issues so I went back to windows. Not a great programmer but I’d like to learn. I’m not looking to do much gaming beyond DOOM2 and factorio. Mostly looking for privacy and a way to get back into programming (I have this pipe dream of learning Assembly). I’m not to...

Grass,

I tried this for the hell of it and it suggested almost every distro I have ever tried, close enough to the order of how long I have used each. Didn’t suggest kinoite and similar which I have some variant of on all my old people’s computers and several of my own.

Grass,

This is hilarious and awesome. Your dream is literally 90s malware and being fired for not being enough of a nerd.

Grass,

Join us… become Linux nerd, never look back. Hate that the one or two software you use that has no viable equivalent is either super janky or doesn’t work on wine even though tons of games outperform windows… with the windows build.

Or battle telemetry for several years until you get forced to subscribe to win 12.

Grass,

I didn’t realize they were different. I always thought my copy failed and tried to use one copy with the other paste.

Grass,

You have solved the entire universe for me

Grass,

That house is so weird throughout, then the red rooms just hit like driving into a concrete wall.

Grass,

This one is gold. I guess a lot of them are.

Grass,

I read that as autism and became confused until reading it two more times.

Grass,

Carrots are fucking easy to grow. You can grow them through winter. I need to repair the domes on my planters but I had them year round for like 4 years until my dad adopted the local raccoons.

Grass,

Dragonflies always look like cg to me even in person.

Grass,

I found the suse immutable distro a bit too much learning over just sticking to arch, but bazzite and the other fedora based immutable distros have been great for not having a shit time every day when my mom group calls me with the ISP tech support and when asked what her operating system is she says Firefox.

I haven’t touched my parent’s computers since installing kinoite and it stays up to date on its own without breaking anything and I love it. I have bazzite on my laptop and steam deck. I can install so far anything I have wanted with little to no issues and it persists after updating which steamos can’t do.

I still have a few other computers running dietpi on the sbc’s, arch on one server and nixos on the other for testing misc stuff but since you no longer need to self compile bleeding edge versions of everything to get games to run or have your wifi card show up, why would I? I did my time back in the days of installing various distros on the family win98 and XP computers and the PowerPC macs when the school district upgraded and gave them out.

Grass,

I liked but also kinda hated bioshock. All of them together. They are good games but all three show their age already.

Horizon was enjoyable enough but it’s the same post apocalyptic plotline I have seen in a few other games and movies, one I could list without having to look up if I knew how to spoiler tag.

GoW is excellent and it’s all about Mimir. I legit want Ragnarok on PC just for more Mimir. Please and thank you. My only gripe with the game is I went to do a bunch of side quests during the chapter where Atreus had his little shit phase and the dialogue became really weird and his attitude kept doing all kinds of flips and shit. My rec is progress main until he gets over himself before any backtracking.

Titanfall no idea, never heard of it.

Grass,

Stock images do tend to be that weird though

Grass,

Steam is a dependency for official proton builds at least, but there are wine builds with the proton patches added in. Base wine will end up getting a lot of them too.

In the case that proton works, you install game via Linux steam and just play. Maybe override proton version and add launch arguments like dll overrides if needed for things like mods or nitpicky performance tuning.

Base wine will generally get the same improvements eventually. I use it via bottles for the odd windows program. I often need to use other custom wine builds for some of the more annoying programs. For games outside of steam, builds like wine-ge have all the relevant proton additions without the steam dependency.

Grass,

It varies but generally if there is a will there is a way. Sometimes it just works, sometimes intervention required.

Typical things that may or may not be needed depending on game:

Windows packages and/or Dll overrides via launch arguments or winecfg/protontrick

Separate wine prefix with specific weird wine build to run mod managers or editors etc. with links to relevant directories in game prefix

Case insensitivity which can be set per directory on empty directories on ext4 (poorly made mods only usually)

Searching “[game name] mods [steam deck or linux]”

Regretting all of that to find that there is a Linux mod loader that works 100% but google stopped giving meaningful search results decades ago and the reddit trick doesn’t work as well post api-suicide.

Grass,

This is a classic, but I hate it so much.

Grass,

I could feel every traction loss and wipe out that would have happened in that video through my entire body. And the feeling of my hands slipping and a metal edge jamming under my fingernails.

Grass,

I bought it and the pixel 7a is too thick for it. Really at that price range it should have better attachment and hall effect sticks.

Grass,

The only EA game I ever enjoyed was NHL 98 on snes. It didn’t have anti cheat.
