Moonrise2473,

It seems so weird, from how you describe it looks you installed some malware. Everything comes from Google play or you installed apks downloaded from shady sites?

Moonrise2473,

Elon shouldn’t be in this chart, too easy to win, makes the championship not interesting.

Like if Vegeta super Saiyan participates in an high school karate tournament

New extensions you’ll love now available on Firefox for Android (blog.mozilla.org)

Today, Mozilla announced more than 450 new extensions (software that adds new features or functionality to the browser) to users on Firefox for Android at Mozilla’s AMO Android page. This milestone marks the launch of a new open extension ecosystem on mobile where developers are now free to create and publish extensions and...

Ghostery? Wasn’t it owned by an ad company that sold the stats and accepted bribes for removing trackers from the Blocklist?

Moonrise2473,

Real desktop app or just the web app in electron?

Moonrise2473,

Maybe you enabled izzyondroid

Moonrise2473,

Electron apps are not real apps. They’re web apps and in that case I can have even a better experience with a browser since I can use extensions, tabs, saving favorites and so on.

There are really few electron apps that deserve to be called “desktop app” and from what I’m seeing from the screenshots, this isn’t one of them.

If I really wanted to have a separate icon and window for this website I can tell my browser to install the pwa icon in the start menu. Wow, instant made desktop app!

Polish Hackers Repaired Trains the Manufacturer Artificially Bricked. Now The Train Company Is Threatening Them (www.404media.co)

In one of the coolest and more outrageous repair stories in quite some time, three white-hat hackers helped a regional rail company in southwest Poland unbrick a train that had been artificially rendered inoperable by the train’s manufacturer after an independent maintenance company worked on it. The train’s manufacturer is...

“The president of Newag contacted me,” Cieszyński wrote. "He claims that Newag fell victim to cybercriminals and it was not an intentional action by the company

Yes, those cybercriminals that once infiltrated in a business network, instead of stealing data or holding ransoms, hide multiple iterations in the code of a snippet that only benefits the corp. Sure, they exist

ChallengeApathy, to firefox
@ChallengeApathy@infosec.exchange avatar

I really appreciate @firefox adding the ability to enable custom search engines for searching with the address bar. As someone who just types my searches direct to the address bar, not having the option to use my search engine of choice was a problem that's now solved!

Moonrise2473,

I’m not using Chrome since 2008 but I think it can be done in every browser

I guess on Firefox is easier to add, by right clicking on the search field while chromium browsers require to add it in the settings?

Or maybe you mean the small search icons on the bottom of the address bar, click those to change the search engine

That feature maybe is unique, or maybe Vivaldi has it?

Moonrise2473,

Nowadays is so easy to annex countries, just make a fake referendum, no need for war declarations

Moonrise2473,

Don’t need the /s, when they did that for windows 7 it had prices like that

Moonrise2473,

Yes but one is for work while the other is a compensation device

Moonrise2473,

I’m not American and I don’t see how having iMessage on Android is worth the $2 monthly.

In my whole life I never knew a single person that was reachable only on iMessage or that was so stubborn to ignore messages on any other platform

Moonrise2473,

i now have ads for volkswagen in the “movie suggestions” ad box that takes 90% of the home

thanks to all the deniers that said “they’re not ads, they’re suggestions

Moonrise2473,

Yes, just this morning I slept through one on Android 14. I woke up much later with a notification something like “skipped alarm” or something like that

But… You’re using sleep as android so I don’t know if something gonna change

Moonrise2473,

As tradition I won’t read the actual article and only comment on the headline - while BTC is a massive energy waste, it seems unlikely that each transaction would waste so much cooling water. Maybe each mined block, but each block should contain thousands of transactions

Moonrise2473,

Even if one of the 15000 killed Palestinians was a doll, doesn’t change the fact that Israel response is completely disproportionate as it’s targeting civilians instead of the terrorists

Moonrise2473,

It was obvious from day one, China gave unlimited R&D funds just to prove a point

Short term: LOL they’re fucked LOLOLOL look at them struggling using 50 nanometer chips

Long term: they will not need western technologies anymore and they can do anything they want

The US should have listened to the saying “Keep your friends close and your enemies closer” - without the ban (or a menace of a ban always looming) they wouldn’t have needed to spend billions in R&D and they would have done like every other country in the world, just rely on American tech

Moonrise2473,

Microsoft as always trying hard to get in the business and failing spectacularly. Never heard of Xbox music

Moonrise2473,

How they can afford that rate, an user that listens just one hour per day would cost them more than the monthly subscription (30×60÷3×,044)

Moonrise2473,

when the most popular browser engine is made by advertising corporation…

Moonrise2473,

Can’t wait to have my privacy hole gangraped

Moonrise2473,

Technically, twitch could sniff all the traffic exchanged with their user. It would be pointless as they already know the content of the transmission, though

I don’t block ads, I just block tracking cookies

Moonrise2473,

You can install those games using “heroic launcher” (Foss), don’t need to install their client

Moonrise2473,

Seems a nice idea.

Maybe a 7" tablet version with no phone could be interesting to use for reading

Moonrise2473,

I feel that’s impossible to play with a keyboard, I uninstalled it after just 2 minutes

Maybe with a gamepad it’s better

Moonrise2473,

Yes but I was thinking “nah I can still do it with my laptop keyboard”

Moonrise2473,

You can’t expect a billion dollars corporation to buy a device for a photo shoot. Can you please think about the shareholders? Thanks 🙏

Moonrise2473,

They’ve been abandoned not because obsolete but because the unlimited unrestricted capitalism ordered to build a service that nobody wanted to use because “we must grow and be the first to hit the market whatever it takes”

Moonrise2473,

Since when it had this feature?

And why putting this feature in Google drive instead of Google lens or Google camera?

I’ve been uninstalling Google drive as the first thing to do when setting a new phone since 2012

Moonrise2473,

It’s the hardest to replace.

There’s literally no other service that has a web email client that’s as nice and as feature rich

I need filters, multiple SMTP sending profiles, import from other IMAP accounts, easy account switching, delayed sending, labels. Nobody offers all those feature in a web client.

Maybe zoho mail is the only one that offers a similar interface

If you know an alternative please tell me because my Google one subscription is due to renewal next month and I really want to move away but I can’t find an alternative.

And the Gmail webui isn’t perfect too, mobile viewing sucks with an huge banner “why u no add this Google account to your android phone so we can track your actions better??” That’s on top of the page that can’t be dismissed.

And the “archive” button that doesn’t actually move it in an archive folder but is more “hide this email forever and make it impossible to find it again”

Moonrise2473, (edited )

I have a proton mail account and the interface is nowhere as feature rich. It’s comparable to yahoo mail but definitely can’t replace Gmail.

Not to mention that it doesn’t even support IMAP so on mobile I would be forced to use their app.

Tutanota isn’t based on sogo, which is extremely barebones? Later I might register a free account to have a look

Moonrise2473,

it depends what you use the email. Email notifications from facebook and various spam? Roundcube is absolutely perfect for that.

Work with 100 emails per hour? You must use some advanced client or everything is buried once you go to eat for lunch

it’s not about search at all. In fact, i am forced to use thunderbird to search on gmail because search is completely broken. If you are searching for all the emails that “Matt - [email protected]” sent you, if you search for “matt” or “username” on gmail, you won’t find anything. You have to find “[email protected]”, which is ridiculous

Decent YouTube client?

I’m looking for an app to browse YouTube using multiple accounts. It has to be convenient to switch between multiple accounts, and keep them separate. I’ve struggled to find a YT client that does this well, most of them seem to advertise “Use YouTube without an account”. I’d look on the app store but frankly the play...

Moonrise2473,

What you’re searching doesn’t exist and will never exist.

You want to comment/interact with multiple accounts, and that can be done exclusively with the official app and the official website.

The reason is that if someone reverse engineers and spoofs a way to comment from a foss app, 30 seconds after the first release, some spambot asshole would immediately edit the code to send spam, and Google would patch that way immediately

Anyone knows about calm Windows games with 1-finger touch screen support?

What I am searching for is for games that support touch screens and can be played with 1 finger / one hand. No action games with fake joysticks on the screen, just games that work with a single finger or at least one hand while lying in bed and trying to wind down. One very good example is Civilization V, which has a dedicated...

Moonrise2473,

Her story definitely needs a keyboard, no?

Moonrise2473,

I just played “behind the frame”

It’s a short story that’s perfect to be played on a windows tablet! Even better if the tablet supports the pen

It’s free this month if you have an active Amazon prime subscription

I liked it, it’s casual and it can be finished in a single session (1 hour, puzzles are very easy)

Moonrise2473,

Thanks, now Xitter threads are unreadable if logged out

Moonrise2473,

How it probably works: you’re giving them your apple id login details and they setup iMessage on a Mac mini in their server farm. They proxy everything. End to end encryption is no more and they’re lying about it or intentionally vague. Like “end to end encryption until their server”

Because they would need to purchase and maintain a massive amount of Mac minis, and probably also playing cat and mouse with Apple, this is expensive and has an ongoing cost. What’s funding this? OEM wanting to have this on their phones? Chat contents for LLM training? Worse like bots using your apple id for posting fake app reviews?

Because I can’t imagine Nothing paying a recurring fee forever to them, with the small margin they have it should be a small one time fee

Recommendations for the best, low-heat, GPU with ray-tracing in 2023?

I have a Nvidia TitanX in my HTPC, which is known for its high heat output, and it keeps overheating when I play 3D games. The case has two intake fans on one side and two exhaust fans on the other, but lacks ventilation on the top panel. I’m tired of the random shutdowns during game play and was wondering if anyone had any...

Moonrise2473,

I saw a very interesting price for an unofficial pcie rtx a2000 8gb made with leftover laptop chips, how good is that for gaming? Or it’s mostly optimized for CAD design?

Moonrise2473,

nice, for $150 seems worthy

what’s the power usage?

Moonrise2473,

if it’s still based on a jvm then they’re dumb and it’s a decision that makes no sense

Moonrise2473,

harmonyos is almost aosp where they did a “search and replace” for “android” strings

i understood “HarmonyOS NEXT” is different, if it’s not rewritten from scratch then it’s a waste of time+money, forcing devs to port apps for “it’s almost the same but it’s a bit different” it’s not a smart idea

Moonrise2473,

I can’t think to any program made in java that isn’t a memory hog.

Look at the performance of Minecraft java vs native

Or vuze that uses 20x the memory of qbittorrent for doing the same stuff but with less features

So either java devs don’t know how to optimize code, or the language itself has some problems

Moonrise2473,

i did a comparison also with vuze, which is incredibly inefficient compared to other clients

Moonrise2473,

ok, give me a list of programs made in java that are faster or use less resources than a similar program written in any other decent language when run on the same hardware.

The list has zero entries.
