Grass,

I would install this if I had made the objectively wrong decision to buy an apple computer.

Grass,

Did you try asking at customer service desk? Back when I worked at one of those stores and dinosaurs roamed the earth, I would have put that through for anyone that came up to the cs desk and asked, as long as they didn’t do a mountain that draws attention. Around the time I left though they took away the ability to enter quantity multipliers without an override, and while technically cs reps have override auth they generally aren’t allowed to use it on themselves without permission (which would be granted if no other super or cs rep was available in a timely manner). Before that change it was possible (as a cs rep at a cs terminal) to do any number without override as long as the current price wasn’t also a limit price which would make it require two for some reason. They also got really annoying about the override logs around the same time.

Edit: I mean asking to have more than the limit at that price on the basis that you would have bought them multiple days, rather than a raincheck.

Grass,

Rabi ribi’s only fault was being unable to let my parents see without being seen as a loser perv, and the hammer. I’ll have to look in to tevi.

Grass,

The one and only D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die. A game who’s only failure is being eternally incomplete.

Grass,

Looks slick. Imagine being impressed with Ubisoft, all platform release these days too.

Kia is holding imported cars on locked compounds, rather than sell or deliver them. (www.cbc.ca)

“New Kia cars are not being released to Ontario dealerships — and reportedly many more across the country — to sell. Instead, they’re being stored on this compound, 30 kilometres south of Kitchener, Ont. and allegedly on other similar compounds across Canada.”

Grass,

I can personally confirm the thing about Kia dealers trying to talk you out of buying the ev version of the soul and to get the gas one instead. Weirdly strongly too. Two different locations. Honestly fuck kia and the dealerships. If I bought a new car I would have been fucked when I lost my job though so maybe only slightly fuck the dealership.

Grass,

LOL was this actually done before and with what data?

Grass,

100 years ago in high school our token black guy sang the tigger song with lyrics modified for nigger. I forgot how it went but I remember feeling emotionally moved by it.

Grass,

I was worried I would have to ask for a tl;dr for dummies like I’m 5, but everything is categorized nicely under questions one may have on the topic. It’s been a while since I’ve been able to get meaningful information from a website without a huge commitment.

Grass,

Damn when I saw the update news for it I was hoping it had linux support especially considering the amount of other Linux stuff valve has going on. I feel ripped off…

Grass,

That’s good. VR on Lennox has been unsexy so far

Just moved to Linux: a follow up

I recently made a post discussing my move to Linux on Fedora, and it’s been going great. But today I think I have now become truly part of this community. I ran a command that borked my bootloader and had to do a fresh install. Learned my lesson with modifying the bootloader without first doing thorough investigation lol....

Grass,

Welcome to the club. It’s the don’t need to remove malware from the parents computers every week club.

Grass,

I was ready to stop it and download that but it’s the previous version so I’ll let it finish. My desktop is currently sitting in parts pending some 3d printed stuff to fit everything together so I’ve been getting by with the deck and a Thinkpad

Grass, (edited )

Update as of today o clock. The only other running comp I have is a haswell i9 in a Thinkpad, and after a brief test and ratio math, it’s marginally faster only accounting for the first 8th, but would still finish second due to the late start.

Edit: dec11 update. In the morning it was just over half and when I got home after work around 5 it was done. The first two thirds I guess are the audio reencoding judging by the several oggenc.exe listed in btop. After that the remainder completes in an unknown but much faster time than everything before it. Finished everything else as per the best of times guide with some Linux adaptations. Game seems to run fine and the verifications at the end of the guide worked.

I used bottles, flatseal to allow access to a separate download folder for MO2. Both games installed in the same bottle for the TTW 3.3.2a installer, and fallout3 uninstalled after. Linux version of 4gb patcher used. Fallout launchers were automatically listed in the bottle after installation and MO2 was added via add shortcuts button. Some MO2 downloads needed to be paused and resumed to start and complete but they worked after that.

So it can be done, but the ttw installer would be better done on a CPU that can clear the audio encoding faster than the deck. It would also not require the installation of fallout 3 on the deck itself if doing the mod on desktop and transfer method.

Grass,

I appreciate the size options as I have several of those already. Are they another platform of their own or do they sell keys?

Grass,

This is deffs just Ezekiel’s drug trip

Why I need extra kernel modules to be able to run Wayland on nvidia?

If i run X.org i dont need to modify my kernel or its configs, it just works well (well, well for X.org) out of box. With wayland its the other story. I need to enable nvidia-dkms module and much other stuff to should be configured. There is a whole page about enabling hyprland on nvidia....

Grass,

That’s the Nvidia drivers. Dkms just builds to match your kernel when the kernel updates. Intel and AMD contribute driver code so you don’t have to do anything extra but Nvidia doesn’t do that because they are shits.

As far as not needing it for x11 you are either using nouveau, the reverse engineered drivers which last I tried are effectively useless for any modern workload, or a non dkms version of Nvidia driver provided by distro maintainers or someone else and just didn’t notice.

Grass,

Probably nvk which I think just completed vulkan feature set for the newest cards recently, but is not reaching the windows fps yet. I still haven’t gotten over Nvidia betraying me by dropping the GTX 460 from drivers at a time when it was still more than enough for me so I don’t follow it very carefully.

Grass,

Don’t forget the raffles for viewers that were impossible to enter and only us zip codes were accepted in the brief moment that it worked even though several countries were listed as eligible

Grass,

It’s just a 2d physics construction game, but one of the early ones that didn’t suck.

Grass,

Don’t make me play it a 5th time please.

Grass,

I WANNA BE A SAIKYOU HEROOOOOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAH

Grass,

Lol imagine if windows bsod had any meaningful information (specifically non EoL versions)

Grass, (edited )

Get a Kobo. They are excellent. I had a 2020 or so Paperwhite from 'zon but it made me feel sad all the time. My Kobo Libra 2 has caused me to read more since I got it than the entire before portion of my life.

If you get any books off amazon use calibre and DeDRM. IIRC DeDRM has stopped but also has been forked on git and continued by someone else so you would want the more up to date fork. Adobe digital editions DRM or whatever it was called I believe can also be removed up to a certain version but you have to download it for the first time with an old enough Adobe app version get the old drm version or it will get permanently locked to the newer version that can’t be removed. Anyway removing DRM let’s you read the ebooks on whatever device you want. It’s not illegal in any country I have bothered to research except if you are doing it to distribute or sell.

As a side note if it helps anyone, I was able to get the whole procedure to work on Linux too by installing the required versions of kindle desktop and Adobe digital editions via Lutris and wine. Calibre and plugins are already cross platform.

Edit: updated DeDRM fork link because goog search results are utter shit these days. github.com/noDRM/DeDRM_tools

Grass,

I did this before but couldn’t keep it up. When I got my first OLED phone I was able to do it with inverse colour and 2 notches over minimum brightness, plus blue light toned down. I read Atwood’s maddaddam trilogy like this.

Grass,

I’ve taken my Kobo into a stream that people cliff jump into. I felt off about it because it doesn’t look waterproof even though it is advertised as such. Maybe I’m just too old for waterproof electronics.

Grass,

Have you built one? I was looking into that before but I think I held back because it couldn’t handle images or something.

Grass, (edited )

McDonald’s used the same skill testing question for like 2 decades. At locations where they actually bothered to make you do it, they would give you a little cut of photocopied paper with an elementary school level pre algebra equation to solve. IIRC the answer was always 32 or maybe it was 36. I got a lot of free crap from people giving me the monopoly stickers they couldn’t be bothered to deal with over the years.

Edit: I tried to look up if anyone posted the exact problem and found someone posting on reddit regarding a different one. I made a screenie to save anyone else the reddit click.

Grass,

I can see this only ever being bad for devs of shitty games. If the world wasn’t so fucked that I would never bring a new child into it, I would have had kids and they could inherit my backlog, and as a result I would keep all my good games. I would gladly sell a lot of shit games for pennies and other people could see how shit they are by buying used and the dev wouldn’t get the sale. Good games people would have to either get lucky or buy new. Nobody would be able to scalp or jack up prices because there is no limit to supply as long as a storefront can host the downloads.

Corporate lobbyists will never let this happen in America or Canada though.

Grass,

I bought every ace attorney game on each of their first digital incarnations, including vs Layton and daigyakuten japanese copies when the devs said they would probably never do an English release, and I also bought them again on steam as they became available. As a result I have played all the ones on steam twice and likely will not ever again. I would never sell them.

Games that can be completed in a short time if you have already learned things from a previous playthrough wouldn’t stop me if the game was any fun to begin with. I don’t do competition or actual timed runs, but I love practicing speedrunning and sequence breaking tech. I would never sell a Zelda game or fromsoft game for this reason especially.

The witness was honestly an entirely… ‘unfun’ game to my tastes, and the sequence for getting achievement 2 was fucking terrible and I couldn’t do it. To be fair the progression and means of learning what to do were good. Most of the time the puzzles were either easy or I couldn’t figure them out for a chunk of time, only to figure it out and think that either the puzzle or myself were stupid depending on which. The ending hidden by lack of knowledge/experience with the ouzzles at the beginning thing was kinda neat but also quite annoying. An all around weird game that I have sorted in the ‘???’ category along with Stanley parable. I still don’t think I’d sell it unless someone I didn’t hate really wanted it and for whatever reason couldn’t afford whatever it costs at the time. Even then I’d sooner share my library.

25 FPS default to 50 Hz instead of 75 (OLED)

I was exploring the fps and refresh rate slider and I realized that when setting the framerate limiter to 25, the refresh rate was incorrectly set to 50Hz on the OLED version, when the 75 Hz setting would be a more appropriate setting, for the same reason 30 fps is at 90 Hz and not 60 Hz. Anyone else seeing the same behavior? Is...

Grass,

From the thumbnail I was wondering if it was this. Thanks for saving me the watch.

Grass,

Mangoes have a black pepper taste to you? I’ve heard of people not liking mangoes but that one is new. If they are unripe they have this kind of tree resin taste/aroma but even that varies across different types.

Grass,

Wasn’t pomegranate one of the fruit that could be the fruit of the underworld based on people overanalyzing mythological and religious lore?

Grass,

Dragon fruit have to fully ripen on the cactus. The tendril or dragon scale like bits will start to brown and that’s my favourite time to pick at least. The yellow kind I just guess because they don’t have those. They don’t ripen after being picked and will taste like dirt if picked early. If you have the climate or maybe greenhouse you can grow them by planting them in a pot held up at 8 ft or higher with the cactus segments dangling down. The fruit grow from the hanging parts. I still have a bunch but they need more nutrients to fruit any more and I’ve been too lazy to go outside to buy the fertilizer. Also post lockdown anxiety.

Grass,

Some decades ago I bought Afghan watermelon seeds on a whim, wondering if it was notably different. Only 5 plants grew and only one viable fruit was produced. It was so unreasonably good and I had never previously enjoyed watermelon.

Grass,

Isn’t the skin the part they say not to eat because of pesticides even though it would otherwise be nutritious?

Grass,

Now I want to gather as many different mangoes as possible, pig out on them, and try to experience this for myself. So far I don’t think I know of anything with a taste I would associage with black pepper other than itself. Same with white. The red pepper variety that makes your mouth numb made me feel like I was almost reminded by something else, but I could never figure it out.

I’m also kind of wondering if anyone has done much research on how taste works for different people or different animals. I remember the tastes being associated with different zones on the tongue being taught in school which turned out to be bullshit.

Grass,

If it’s anything like superstore in Canada, they need too much babysitting. Even if there is a store specific person able to fix problems to prevent them from happening again, corporate will force push an update that reverts it. Lots of product entries for things not available on that side of the country will return after being removed and all they do is lock up the system because they don’t actually exist. Every little thing requires the human cashier to reset or override something. I ran 8 at a time on my own when they were new but most people couldn’t do that while ensuring nobody notices the problems and get angry. 4 is reasonable for a non-beginner. Any more requires ridiculous micromanaging.

Grass,

They need to do way instain developer> who close thier swipp source. because these swyppe can’t frigth back?

Grass,

If that structure looked like it was built in Minecraft it would be perfect.

Grass,

Everyone else dribbles all over the seat and doesn’t clean it so I leave it up.

The Unity Desktop Environment an Underrated Masterpiece (unityd.org)
